I unearthed some barbed wire that was mostly buried from a previous owner. I discuss how dangerous leaving something like this around can be. #barbedwire #homesteading #rurallife

It’s amazing how many dilapidated, useless broken down barbed wire fences we see where we live. The trees grow around them making them very difficult to remove and care for. Glad you spotted it!

It's scary stuff, especially when you consider what would happen if a child or pet got tangled in it. Hope you guys are able to find and remove any of yours as well.

I never even thought about the nail in the tree thing before . . . Thanks for the warning! And as for the barbed wire, I can't believe the previous landowner just left that. I'm glad you found it and have it blocked until you can get rid of it. Not everyone is a good steward.

There is a time and place for using all of these materials, I just wanted to stress the importance of considering what impact they can have on future safety before using them.

Fences of all kinds have been used for protection forever, I even remember back when i was being chased by dinasores we would build rock fences and don't get me started on the wall we built in China or in Berlin, People love fences white picket, iron, rock wire the list goes on, An interesting topic Take care and keep your boots on 😊👍

I would've guessed you'd leave food out for the dinos and make friends with them, Ernie 😉

Barbed wire is as common as sage brush in the west. If you don't want free ranging cattle and horses on your property, barbed wire is a must.

I agree that makes sense for visible fencing out on the plains. Not so much here in the woods.

well spotted

Careless indeed Steve. Years back the idiot segment of environmental activists would spike trees that were marked for logging. We live in free range cattle country without using any fencing, we rather enjoy seeing the cattle stop by and trim the yard.

Wow, very careless of the last owner. Fun FACT, Italian leather is expensive because they don't use barbed wire on cow fields, no barbed wired defects in their leather.

That is interesting. Bet the cows appreciate it too.
