I saw this film thinking Eddie Redmayne would be the main focal point of this film. I was wrong. Alicia Vikander delivers and extraordinary performance. She really carried the film until the end. I think on the surface, I was expecting the film to be about lily being transgender but I think the real underlying story was about the unconditional love Alicia's character had for Lily. And to me that was beautiful.

+Nicole Luera . 100% agree to me this is a very strong story of the deepest of love between a woman (amazing acting) and her husband. Where the innocent games they play turn out to be lifechanging. I cried inside for most of the film for the girl how she lost her husband to Lily. Wow, this movie touched me deeply.

I have also looked up some stuff abt Gerda and apparently she might've been at least bisexual or maybe even gay so I think she loved both Einar and Lili and that it helped her so much with dealing with Einar's transition. I think she loved both Einar and Lili and she just wanted the person inside the body whether it was a male or a female to be happy and I just have so much admiration for her for that.

You are only highlighting your own personal, deluded experiences and intolerance towards others who you believe are "different" than you. Just because someone is "different" does not mean they do not have the right to live their lives how they like. As long as a person is not causing any real harm onto another person, who cares if they are gay, straight, trans gender, disabled, black, white, lesbian, bisexual....!

What sucks is that their marriage was then seen as "invalid" and "null" so they were no longer married. They then parted ways. Lili wanted to marry a French artist and have children with him. However, she passed away from an infection from one of her surgeries to implant a uterus. After this, Gerda married a man and continued painting, she then divorced him and sadly passed away. +Issaacc S And when you say that, you're inferring that this inference is false? Since 'prettiness' (as opposed to simply 'attractiveness') is typically a word used to describe the 'softness' of one's features, I'd say, due to bone structure and other such variables humans use to judge or estimate anyone's level of attractiveness to one particular sex, either directly or by proxy, by general standards of beauty you're mistaken. 'Beauty' mightn't be objectively verifiable, obviously, but levels of 'perceived prettiness' as qualitative data is nonetheless measurable (as a statistic), so the inference might appear to be making a statement about objective facts of beauty, but that's your problem.

The awkward moment when you cry for the wife not the trans... She loves him.
@artstudent12559 жыл бұрын
+suooa There's nothing awkward about that, save for your misuse of pronouns. Gerda Wegenar loved her wife very much, and the two stayed close even after they divorced. Up until her death, Gerda often talked about "her sweet little Lili". The story (and title) is just as much about her as it is about Lili Elbe.

Such a beautiful and sentimental movie. I felt so sorry for both Gerda and Lili. I could only try to imagine the pain from both sides, and I have to say, Gerda is the definitely the bigger person because she selflessly let go the man she loved and embraced the reborn of Lili. As for Lili, I admire her bravery for seeking who she truly was, even if it meant death.

+Risky Bisky I understand that this is supposed to be a compliment, but using the term "real women" isn't fair to transgender or intersex women. These are people who definitely identify as women, but are told they aren't "real women" because they were born with male genitals, and no matter what they do won't be accepted in society.

No, you didn't refer to that minority group in this comment. You just happened to make this comment on a biopic about a transgender woman. I have a personal story to share about myself. where should I start. When I was in middle school, me and my friends should start food fights. In the spring of 1997, we had our huge food fight ever that the cops were called. Pizza was being flung. Chocolate milk was raining down. And when I finally got up on the table to throw squished pees at my best friend Rachel PotCooker, a flying piece of mash potatoes hit my face. And I fell off the table and fell on my back. And I felt the potato on my face and I said: "hey there fella." I wasn't the same person. I grew disgusted of myself. I wasn't the same. deep down...I was a potato. I use to go to school with mash potatoes smothered on my face. kids made fun of me. Principles were called. Parents were called. Detentions was assigned. I couldn't help it. I was a potato kid. When I turned 18, I married a potato. My family disowned me. The government didn't acknowledge me. I was a fool of the neighborhood. That was when I grabbed my smothered potato self and my wife and ran to the hills. I also grabbed my laptop and my 4G wifi. the atnt

The reason people watch transformers is because its safe and kid friendly. Also most people aren't open minded unfortunately, you can tell it by the comments here. I am always fascinated about the human element of stories, and not interested in the sexual orientation, gender, race or religion. The purity of emotion is the most important to me and I guess not to most, maybe thats the reason Hollywood creates crappy action films.

Watched this movie for the first time and I'm honestly speechless. It's so interesting! From a psychological point of view it's outstanding. The fact that Einar died the moment Lili refused to give him back to Gerda and Gerda just carried on loving Lili because she still saw her husband was one of the most heart-breaking things I've ever seen on TV. Even though her husband faded away so many months ago, she never actually mourns him because to her, he's still there, but he isn't. My mind is blown! Powerful, brilliant and thought-provoking. My only real criticism on the film is that Lili's feelings fade away for Gerda the moment she rejects Einar's existence. I thought that was selfish of Lili because she still has Einar's memories and should remember Gerda the way Einar would. That frustrated me. How could Lili not love Gerda the same way? Personality disorder? Gender reassignment doesn't take away love! Anyway, amazing movie. 10/10.
@aminabenfatah71554 жыл бұрын
Lili loved Gerda so much ... maybe not as Einar did before ... but she was able to notice that Gerda was a wonderful human being and so selfless but after all she couldn’t lie to her ... it’s so complicated but that was true unconditional love.

+wil parris Yea and it sucks, I respect this actor for the role and I think the performance is both difficult and he pulled it off well. But damn it when Leo acts you can see panic, anger, drive to kill and his mind ripped in half and totally shattered. I'm not trying to talk down on this movie but sometimes I think that best Actor/Actress award isn't just judging the performance but also gets some stuff from the story arc and if it's something socially controversial they just love it and slap oscar on there.

+Walkingthroughlifewith A an extremely hard role you say? Leo slept in a dead carcass, swam in a cold lake, dealt with nasty cold weather multiple times just to get the perfect shot while filming The Revenant. To me, Eddie is indeed an amazing actor. But he already won an oscar. I honestly hope that Leo wins this year.

+wil parris Leo did way better in Revenant than Eddie in this film. I saw both films and Leo has had so much emotion and he would surely win his first.
