As a INTP, a lot of times when I see people in trouble I think that it could've been avoided easily if they thought logically, but I'm never able to say what I think because I'm scared to be seen as a heartless, inconsiderate person
@jayc1139
@jayc1139 2 жыл бұрын
That, as an INTP myself, is my problem too. As an example, this is evident with something as basic as 'smoking'. The said smoker instigated the smoking, themselves, to begin with... They KNEW the risks, they KNEW ahead of time what would happen, and that at first their lungs would outright reject the smoke and would be a sign to stop. If they get lung cancer, then that IS their OWN fault, and it's...difficult for me to feel sympathy for them even if they're suffering in pain. I don't say that outright since, yes...it would be seen as heartless to more emotionally driven people. But I feel like showing them TOO much compassion would just 'enable' them to smoke further, even if they got rid of their lung cancer...and also 'enable' others to smoke as well.

I know exactly what you mean. People get into illogical self-destructive patterns and then get hurt and, like, I feel really bad for them, but also just end up secretly being very angry at them, because they made this mess for themselves and now need to be sympathized and emotionally "rescued", because they're so hurt, but its so hard and exhausting to deal with their emotions and my own emotions at seeing the people I care about hurt, and a part of me just wants to yell at them to suck it up and get their shit together, because if they'd had any logical sense at all, they never would have gotten hurt, and now I've gotten sucked into this emotional train-wreck of consequences that's not my responsibility and I don't want to deal with... but y'know, you gotta because you love them...

@White Crow That's ok. It always varies from person to person how you're being perceived (and the region/country you live in!). Even if two people have the same type they might be drastically different in some ways still (like my sis and me. We're both INFPs but boy are we different. She is very uncomfortable with talking about emotions rationally from time to time eg. and I'm not bothered by it at all ^^) Aaand also. INFPs tend to be misunderstood (making a good impression is hard when you're a weirdo). That's second nature to us (just like many other types like INFJs, INTPs etc.) So don't apologize. There's a possibility for any person of any type to be immature/toxic/whatever. It sometimes just happens to be like that due to different experiences etc. At least in the eyes of this perticular INFP lol (I think I can talk for most of them tho. We're all very nice and welcoming ^^) you're not ruining anyone's image. You're one of us especially if you struggle to make a good impression. You know. We're all weird! :D Just one last thing. INTPs are often seen as cold asses due to them just stating facts - often without the intention to hurt anyone. If that sounds familiar to you.. maybe you can check if this type suits you more I'm not doubting your type btw. I don't know why exactly you're seen as an ass so I wanted to let you know a possibility (cause this is very common)

Lol infp will “listen” to advice of others but don’t follow it. Infp even knows it’s the right advice but something about it doesn’t feel right , or it’s hard to deal with following through with that cause it might take something important away to follow that advice. Like my job is stressful and literally drains me emotionally & I could get paid much better salary anywhere else but I stay because of sentimental reasons and worrying about my clients’ feelings about it. Like logic says to find a new job or consider new jobs but I don’t have the heart to. Also, it just takes a long time to process to make a decision to begin with with INFP, I force myself to make quick decisions sometimes or I never will. Lol Thanks for the videos -they make me laugh!

Exactly, I actually like receiving advice from people that care about me, but it is true that I dont let others change my mind easily when its something Im passionate about. Like when I chose to become an animator, people around me used to say "But youre a smart kid, why dont you choose a career that pays better and has more stability etc." even tho I know this path is the one that will make me happy, but people are always afraid to follow their dreams (specially where I live) and they try to project their failures onto other people, even if it is because they care about you, sometimes you just gotta do what makes you happy

I'm an INFP and I agree that I do have a tendency to do exactly what you said (listen to people's advice and stubbornly ignore it). However, ignoring advice has nothing to do with stubbornness. In fact, I actually like listening to other people's suggestions and I do take them seriously. What brings out my stubbornness is when I think that the person giving me advice does not really understand my side and is giving me advice based on what they think is right or what they would have done, regardless of my own feelings, goals etc. The advice may still be wise, but I will only follow it when I think it is time to do so. On the other hand, when I feel that the other person is honestly advising based on what I want to accomplish, then I will most likely take that advice.

This is why as an INTJ sometimes I just don't give the advice. I hate people wasting my time. The level of information required from the person about themselves to craft a useful advice is high, aside from knowledge about the topic, and even then people on average don't actually know themselves well enough to tell you correct things about their own selves. So unless I already have the info (the person is a lifelong friend interesting enough for me to keep a special individualised 'folder' of them in my head'), or otherwise too bored to have anything else to do, I just say 'nope, I can't advise you'.

(Especially if the "advice" is actually a judgemental insult rather than a contructive criticism. Hahahaha I'm not deaf Martha.)

Right. I can agree. Most of the time, I just tell a friend my problems because I want her to hear me out. Advice is welcome but just because it communicates to me the fact that they care enough to think of an advice, and I don't always necessarily feel obligated to follow that advice. . Maybe that's why I'm drawn to INFJs. They give me advice in such way that I know they're not forcing me to follow - a sort of disclaimer if you will. (Like, they simply say what they'd do... and then be like, "...well, that's just me. I'm sure you'll know the best thing for you to do when the time comes. And I'll be here to help you out." :) . And sometimes, them not forcing an advice on me but knowing how to word it in such way that I understand how beneficial it would be to follow their advice - this makes me take their advice. Sometimes. Like 40% of the time perhaps. The other 60% of the time (or so) I don't really bother with unsolicited advice. Judgmental advices are the worst. Ugh. Like, I'm still trying to deal with the fact that I am a flawed person, please stop rubbing it in my face. :(

Story time: I (ENFP) ended up getting better at cleaning after experiencing landlord harassment. Basically, my ex-landlord was strict and mean. She would invade my privacy and go to my room without telling me, move things around, tell me that she's disappointed in me, blame me for the things I didn't do etc. So, I blamed myself, cried many times, had a panic attack, and lived with so much anxiety and fear. It got to a point where I started to feel sick physically. BUT, what I realised is that I got so much better at organising things after living in that house... I managed to turn my sad experience into a learning experience. I feel proud of myself tbh. 💪😎 Now, I organise my desk before going to bed every day. ("Thank you" to my INFJ friend who often saved me from my sad thoughts, and "Bye, you monster" to my ex-landlord lmao) Oh yeah, to everyone who's reading this, you DO NOT have to go through the same thing as I did. If you find a very controlling person who takes away your freedom, you can always choose to get out of that state and you should. Harassment is NOT okay. Get help immediately if you experience it!

INTP here, I think that my Fe manifests itself often in a "group acceptance" way. I sometimes ignore wanting my thoughts, feelings, and ideas to be accepted by a group, because its sort of silly, what does it matter if people like me or not? But at the same time, I am deeply afraid of being rejected. So it can end up where I purposefully ignore whether or not people like me or what I'm saying because I'm afraid of the possible rejection. I think I'm a lot better at handling this tendency now than when I was younger though.

As an ENFP this also applies to my own emotions. I don’t necessarily pay attention to bad emotions or know how to process that pain and i repress it as much as possible. Which doesn’t sound bad necessarily but it’s my worst trait because it eventually explodes and I’m forced to deal with like 13 years of ignored pain and that puts me under stress and then I become hyper organised, and Si kicks in, and I’m trying to organise this emotion and things in my life in the moment but then my Ne is just seeing all these ideas on how to overcome and ignore it further.

It's not as simple as that. It's that I learned that it hurts one way or another, and it's best if your bad outcome is not about ignoring what you really want, deep inside. As an INTJ I can relate to being totally unaware of the real world at times. I hate watching the news, my favorite place to be is home, and when I'm reading a book I can become so lost in the story and imagining the world in my mind that I become completely closed off from everything else happening around me. My parents and sibling could be having an hour-long discussion in the car on the way to see our relatives, and I would miss the entire conversation and have no idea what it was even about because my head was lost in a book. And if anyone interrupted me from reading it would spook me and make me flinch in surprise. Looking up from my book was like coming up for air, like some deep sea creature breaching the surface of the ocean for the first time in days. I've also found that our weakness to Extraverted Sensing also causes us to rampantly indulge in said senses with the restraint of a 3 year-old. We see a cookie jar when no one else is around, and when ya get home not a single cookie is left in that jar. And yet the INTJ could still convince you it wasn't them even with crumbs all over their face. We haven't developed our Se very well, so we tend to indulge our senses excessively in unhealthy ways, usually in the form of binge-eating, binge-drinking, binge-watching TV, etc. When we're depraved we take it out by over-doing it with sensory pleasures. Perhaps that's why we tend to avoid parties and other social gatherings...but who knows? Any time I attended some social event I was only interested in the food, maybe the music, and occasionally for the sights. I can tell I neglect Se, because I'm not really motivated to go places just to see the sights. Sight-seeing doesn't motivate me to go for a walk or ride a bike. I have to have a clear destination in mind where I'm actually going to do something productive or functional. Where our Se is concerned, we either over-indulge in sensory pleasures or completely ignore them. We throw caution to the wind when we decide to just 'let go,' and the results are usually unsavory. We need to be taught how to refine our Se so we don't indulge our Se recklessly. But we also need to be taught how to enjoy small pleasures our senses offer so we don't lose touch with reality and can actually enjoy and appreciate what's out there in moderation.

Yes im INTJ too. I was always lost in my head. I always hated news, but now im very interested in them, well actually not in all, im interested mostly in political things or historical and thats probably because i love politics, history and geography. So that may not be thing of introverts to hate/like news, or i am exception or you are. I also hate social places like parties. Im too concentrated on food. But when i hear something about politics or history, then i can completely destroy them by talking for half hour about that topic lol. But if its only some small talk or for me not interesting things then i just rather eat something good there and im quiet.

I hope this comment doesn't offend INFJs 🙏🏼 It's just my experience with their dark side, as an INFP. Although I find them one of the most interesting personalities to talk to, sometimes I've experienced some of them develop a low key controlling and negative behaviour (moreover directed to the ones tag as "kind"). They give and advice and, in the next interactions, they keep checking if you have applied their recommendations in your life. Conversations become too intense, so eventually, the time needed to get in touch will be longer and longer. Silly example: - How are you today? + Not that great tbh but it's ok. - Have you tried what I told you last time? + Not yet... - Why? + I just need time to think. - But what else do you need to think? We already talk and I gave you a good solution. (and this goes on and on...So now I have 2 problems: the original one and now also dealing with someone that won't change the subject). Conclusion: Next time I'll lie, I won't share any problem, and I'llsay everything is ok. It's easier. Sometimes people just need someone that listens to them 🧘🏻‍♀️just to be able to vent all their brainstorming, and not to have them solve the problem. Many problems have simple solutions that depend only on the mental state and will of the the person 🧠 Let's say most of the times people already know the answer or solution. It's just that they might need to express outloud the problem and then have some time to change what's making us stuck.

As an INFJ, whether or not somebody listens to my advice is up to them, but I do feel a little bit disappointed. However, I will not push them too hard like that. It's like the last time my friends and I had to teach a French class, I was the one who stopped a girl from constantly correcting a student. As an INFP... why is it upsetting that we don’t take advice? I love doing things my way even when it doesn’t make logical sense to others... and I’m literally happy with every decision I’ve ever made when I was following my heart and intuition 😊🤗✨🧚‍♀️ I love all the emotions and stories and magic that comes with living that way, even the pain that sometimes comes feels so beautiful when I’m following my heart. As an INTP, I like to talk about my emotions ..... from a logical point of view, of course. I really like to discuss why I behaved like this at that moment, why I reacted like this. I also love to think about what and how things affected me in my childhood. It's interesting how my brother used to be able to provoke me into such helplessness that as soon as I can't do anything about situations, my emotional inhibitions immediately crumble ..... just as it crumbles when I have to tell someone about my true emotions + what bothers me . Whenever I talk to my parents about it, I cry and I DON'T KNOW HOW TO STOP. I hate that

I'm an ENFJ and I hit that point. I've always been on the fringe of ENFP so having this deep desire to explore and experience everything has fallen by the wayside my whole life. I've been giving in to people's expectations of me always prioritizing their desires over my dreams and I'm finally saying screw it! I'm taking a gap year and using my dual citizenship to move to england for grad school and beyond! People in my life can call my bluff all they want but ENFJs mean business when we put our minds to something and I'm putting my mind to channeling my ENFP side, ironically. I'm excited to finally do something for myself and really figure out my deepest desires independent of other people. It'll feel weird, but I like pushing myself. Anyway, this comment was for no one but myself but if you read it thanks for coming to my Ted talk. I hope it sparks some desire of yours.
