As a Christian, it's sad that there is a lot of distrust between pastors and the community (kind of like the verse in the Bible that warns of false prophets). My family and I are pretty skeptical of major churches.
@TheBlackAztec34 жыл бұрын
You should be skeptical of all churches. It is common for them to preach that the law is done away with but they still try to convince you to tithe even tho tithing is a biblical law. Basically they want you to follow the tithe law but every other law is done away with because they want money. Think about it plenty of people are under emotional distress and need to find something for comfort. Ill use my mom for example when her daughter/my sister died she fell into depression and found Christianity because she needs something to believe next thing you know she’s giving thousands of dollars a year to the church just so the pastor can get a nice house and some nice cars
@gabebarbieri1944 жыл бұрын

My father is a pastor, paid for his church out of his own pocket. All the money that is collected is put into utilities and repairs for the church. He still works a 9-5. Any extra money is put into the church savings. That money is used to bless people in need, or to fund a charity cookout to give out free food. All of the church fund decisions are made by the congregation. Personally I’m not religious, but my father is not only a man of faith, he’s a good person.

I'm not a Christian but I grew up in a Christian household, I've been to all types of churches but this one my grandmother used to take me to as a child was getting pretty big he had showings of his peaching early mornings in Atlanta, my family just loved the guy thought he was the greatest and everybody looked highly at him and his charismatic and charming ways, but me as a child I always felt "Yeah this guy seems great and all but I feel like he's hiding something." type vibes from him. He always used to tell us things like pay this and that for this and that, pay this for this get together we're having, buy this merch, say things like "You were just going to go buy you a nice purse you might as well give it to the lord cause he gives you all". type stuff. Long story short I saw him on the news years back talking about how he's pocketing the money. Next time we went to church after that he apologized to the church said he too isn't perfect the church forgave him and embraced him... Years later as a grown man I went back with family with my now wife, the first thing my wife noticed was how he kept mentioning money lol He's STILL AT IT and nobody suspects anything even though they have clear reason to! I'm sorry I can't trust no church I instead study every other religion and take the good from them.

Prophets are Gods mouthpiece for people as a whole , but everyone has the right to personal revelation. But this guy is not a Prophet and usually only one exists at a time. A true Prophet can only speak the truth or I believe God will strike him down.
@AnEpicFatalityArchives4 жыл бұрын
Um. God used multiple people to communicate a message. Moses was the mediator between Israel and God. Jeremiah the Prophet spoke against Israel through God's voice and command. There are so many other examples. God does use people, but he uses vessels appropriated for His will. Not for man. What you are referring to is a false prophet that speaks through his own will about the things of God, whether it's true or not, and most of the time, it's not. Tldr; your mom is wrong. God uses people whether people realize it or not

Pastors like him are the reason I am skeptical about churchs and religion in general. I am catholic but I always found it weird even as a child that every single mass at some point the money collection basket would go by and I honestly felt bad when I didn't put something in it. As a adult I do not attend church I believe you don't need to go to some church to have god in your heart

The worst flight I ever took was from Dallas to Louisville. The lady next to me was a Joel Osteen fanatic and talked to me about him the whole way. As a former Houston resident who lived there before, during and after Hurricane Harvey, I'd side-eyed him ever since I learned he *refused* to allow his church as temporary shelter for people who lost their homes (TBH that was actually evil 👿)

I'm from Houston, Texas and have attended his church since I was 5 years old. I got the chance to meet him a couple times, and actually became friends with his son for a little bit growing up. I am now 24 and I definitely can resonate with everything you just said. Growing up I thought that Joel Osteen could do no wrong, and I hated when people spoke badly about him, but seeing how he handled Hurricane Harvey gave me a solid understanding of what I needed to know about him. I don't think he's a bad person by any means, but there is definitely more to him than his followers think. Great vid like always!!

Megachurch pastors remind me of the Pharisees of the New Testament: The Religious leaders who technically praised God, but who were self-absorbed and obsessed with their own power. Jesus often criticized and spoke out against them.
