I'm glad you covered this topic too. I love Kpop a lot but no one can deny this side that it has. A lot of trainees have fallen victims of sexual abuse and all sort of things out of fear or hoping it would help their career. I remember Jang Ya-Yeon who commited suicide at an early age. There are many cases of the Ceo abusing the teens . . . And not to get started on the diets and all the physical problems they go through due to inhuman demands. I just hope that things will change and it'll get better for the future idols and those that have already debuted. That's why I never hate on idols no matter what actions and rumors spread about them. They don't deserve the hate they get after all they go through.

Divine Gi Yes, I know she was an actress. I just mentioned her because her story was very sad and threw light over these matters not only for idols but entertainers in general. It was the first time when I read that I realized how far things could be taken and just what these people sacrificed to go somwhere or be known. Actresses, idols, musicians and even in every day life young women fall prey of those stronger then them. A lot of powerful CEO's and people in high positions have gone and still go unpunished simply because they have money and Korea is a society that puts the blame on the women not men when such things happen. In fact it isn't only women who are targeted. Young boys suffer as well. The poor are walked over and no one does a thing, even police gets corrupted. Such things happen all around Korea. In nightclubs, office, on street and even at home. If you watched Hello Counselor you'd be surprised how many pedofiles and abusers are shown and their acts are downplayed because Korea has primitive views when it comes to mental illnesses and tabboo topics. They think that not talking about them or going public about them will make them disappear but obviously that's not the case.

There’s a Kpop group... well they were supposed to debut soon or were supposed to debut. This group is named “Ateen”, 3/(or) 4 of the members were reportedly sexually abused by the CEO Wife in public (restaurant) in front of their (CEO & Wife) Daughter 😢 And also there was a KPOP group who disbanded because of how they were treated (they were abused horrifically) and they were minors at the time too 😢

This is so sad and not fair at all. Did anyone around her even help her out? The industry did this to her and nobody stepped up to protect her or provide justice for her? Not even the actors and actresses helped her? This is so sickening. Everyone involved in this story is at fault for harming her and failing to protect her. I feel so sad. From your description of the drug & effects of the drug, it sounds like you were given molly, or MDMA. What usually is the main ingredient in ecstacy. The drug they gave you was crystal meth, I experienced it and it was completely horrible, I ended up passing out and being hospitalized. I hate how people go around and give this thing like if it was a "candy", and I don't understand why the police does nothing about it. I was glad that when it happened to me, my friends and nice people were there, who know what could happen to me if they weren't there.

Possibly but it sounds more like molly or MDMA to me. Molly is often pink in color or shade. Meth normally tastes very bitter, and cannot easily be masked by any added flavoring.

@@birdy369 MDMA crystals are very rare however, most MDMA is taken in pill or powder form, not crystal. Negative experiences while still under the effect of the drug are also rare with MDMA.

And many women accept to do this job because they like money, I can tell you because I got to know them. As an entertainment lawyer....I agree with one thing Grace says in particular. NEVER sign any contract without having a lawyer look at it....especially in entertainment. I have NEVER seen a contract that didnt have a hidden catch in it. And they are drawn deliberately in the favor of the one giving the contract....if nothing else because if it is negotiated...they want to have something they can give up. So signing one unseen just guarantees you are getting a bad deal. If someone is going through the effort of giving you a contract...that means they have made an investment....gotten approvals from other people etc. They will negotiate it with you since it would be egg on their face if you turned them down after they went and got approvals and convinced people they should engage you. Your bargaining position is never as weak as you may think. (This is not legal advice....this is just common sense!)

I would imagine it does happen with all companies....at least to some degree. Even fair companies may feel it is better to have a contract in their favor and then rely on being fair in practice. It's just human nature to think of things from your own perspective rather than the other side's perspective.

Once lawyers get involved...the business people pass the matters to the lawyers and it tends to take a completely different tone. If you have talent, but just have a yt channel, in South-Korea probably you won't be any big, because the big companies own the K-Pop world. Even if you are not alone, but the member of a smaller label or management, you won't have the same opportunities, like the big ones. I read up on Jang Ja Yeon's case. In 10 years time almost NO ONE in her list of 20 or 30 aggressors was ever prosecuted. They recently charged one of the prosecutors in that case for giving special treatment to certain people who were accused. It's absolutely sickening that she never got the justice she deserved, even in her death... the whole entertainment scene is controlled by men in power, men in politics, men with money. So many girls are used and abused and traded around like commodities. Korea is one of the leading countries in beauty, skin, technological, surgical and musical breakthroughs in the world right now and it breaks my heart to know that in 2019 they are still so fucking sexist and regressive.

This reminds me of the G.NA scandal. She got "caught" having "dinner" with some older guy in the industry, and people assumed she was selling herself. G.NA said she didn't know it was that kind of meeting (she said she got tricked into it), but people were very quick to shame her, and it ruined her career. Of course, no one really knows the truth, but it's still sad that people were judging her instead of having empathy for the fact that she was either victimized by her management or she was that desperate for her career to keep going that she would sell herself. Either way, it's a situation where ppl should have felt pity for her, not contempt. :/

Erised Moon I would be very surprised if she didn’t know what was going on. G.na had been in the Kpop industry for a while and for sure knew what he meant by “”dinner”” because I’m sure she’d gotten plenty of other offers like that in the past, whether she’d taken them or not. What the real problem is, is the rampant sexism in Korea and the exploitation of idols. Women pretty much have their careers ended by scandals while men just simply don’t. Female idols must at all times hold up a pure innocent image, while simultaneously being exploited by their companies. It would be a very hard offer to give up if you were either a) an older idol who didn’t have much of a career left or b) you were a young idol with massive amounts of trainee debt and a company who’d taken loans out to finance you. In both situations your company would probably be very in favour of loaning you out for the night, and would thus put a lot of pressure on you. I think a lot of the time you’d just suck it up and do it, even though it disgusted you.

@@gg-bs1ey I actually did some research after I posted this comment yesterday, and apparently yes, insiders have confirmed that G.NA didn't know what was going on when she met this guy. Some guy friend she knew lent her money in her hard times, and when she tried to pay him back, he told her that all she needed to do was go out on a blind date with a broker friend of his. She did him that favor, but then later found out that this broker had given her friend a huge sum of money to set him up on a date with her. G.NA only thought that she was going out on a blind date as a favor to her friend who had her money, when in fact her friend had received that money from that broker to hook them up. So yeah, she's actually innocent.

Erised Moon ...yes I’ve read articles and their official statements too. And I don’t believe a word of it. She’s a 30 year old veteran of the industry, not a naive 20 yr old trainee. She’s not dumb enough to believe that all it was was a ‘blind date’. Especially, as she is in that industry same as grace. She would know people that have done similar things, and probably gotten similar offers. Those statements are damage control because her public image tanked. Meaning they have no choice but to do certain things with certain people because their manager says so. Look at it this way. If you were really passionate about music, you wanted people to hear your voice and creativity and you were offered a chance at stardom. You’d take it, right? This however leads a lot of these idols into traps in the form of contracts where they’re manipulated whilst they get to chase their dream and do what they love most. Not only do they do this to chase their dreams in being a known musician, but their family could also be very poor. I don’t blame them for wanting to make money, buy homes for their family and set up a concrete safe future for themselves and their family.. Even if that means they have to endure all types of Hell in order to be successful. Take the time to look further and learn about people’s circumstances before making future judgements, please. Serious question: do companies get their people hooked on pills to stay awake and working such INSANE hours? I have yet to see an SM group's performance that didn't look like they hadn't slept in a week. Yep. It is. When I was a kid, I told my mom I wanted to become a model. She joked around that I don't have the looks but she then added, "that's one dangerous industry" and told me models are like 'goods being sold', I didn't understand way back then. This video really changed my perspectives. I knew that the companies don't give a sht about their celebrieties, thats why they arrange these strange " meetings". Poor those kpop stars that are forced/obliged to go. Also the drug thing is why I m very paranoid. I usually don't go to club because I don't like the atmosphere but even on a dark street or on a place where there are few people, Im careful about everything, this world made me so scared and sometimes I find it hard to trust people easily. The kpop world seems bright and colorful on the outside, but on the inside it seems there are many dark secrets, strange, manipulative and bad people who use money and power to controle/make others do what they want. Usually the girls are the ones who suffer. Not all companies don’t care about their idols. There are a few examples of companies that care for their idols. For example, JYPE. No company is perfect, including JYPE. But you can tell he loves and cares for his artists. He makes sure their mental health is good and makes sure they have therapy and has a family relationship with his artists. He even keeps friendly relationships with artists that leave his company. He values his artists having honesty, integrity, and humbleness even more than talent. I also heard ATEEZ’s CEO is very good.

Theres a super old clip of SNSD Taeyeon on Strong Heart talking about how she was approached by a famous male celebrity/CEO/rich person (cant remember exactly) to basically do "favors" for him. SNSD was already a group but this was pre-Gee so they were rookies. He would harass her and text and call constantly saying inappropriate stuff and she hated it but because he was such a huge senior in the industry and age-wise she couldnt straight up tell him to fuck off. Eventually she did tell him to leave her alone and he threatened to ruin her. To this day i still wanna know who the fuck it was. I was so shocked she talked about it so openly on this TV show especially when they werent the super famous girlgroup they are today and that was the first time I'd heard an idol admit something like that. I have Korean friend who found out that some of his buddies were into K-pop, me included. He told me about the exact same thing you described. About how, they have "brokers" that arrange secret hook ups between rich clients (many of them rich heirs to big companies) and k-pop stars. He knew this because a friend of his back in Korea lives in that world of rich "chaebols" (am I using that term correctly?) and that friend told him about it. I asked "well, this has got be to hook up with desperate idols right? Ones that maybe have fallen on hard times?" He said, no...not necessarily, some are very popular and successful. He said, there are many rich men that currently don't want to go through the trouble of dating and seeking a real relationship at their point in life. That because of their status, they're not sure which women are just interested in them for their wealth/power. They've felt safer with just casual disposable hook ups but .... since they're rich, they can afford to perhaps live the dream and be with a glamorous idol for a night. That's when their people talk to the idol's people and .... it gets arranged. After this story, I felt weird. Like, imagine watching your bias perform on stage and the idea sneaks into your head, she's so down to earth and nice ...what if she's one of them? My other thoughts were, do they do it voluntarily? Surely not, they must be manipulated into it right? He mentioned something about how some are okay with going through with it. Remember, not all these "sponsors" are old rich men. Some are still young men that are probably handsome too, they just have the resources to make this kind of evening happen. And the girl agrees because she doesn't mind receiving the extra money. Perhaps to supplement her income or ...maybe she's in that part of an idol career when she's known and popular but hasn't started receiving money from her company yet. The evening takes care of a lot. And if her sponsor is nice and handsome...yah why not? After hearing him put it like that I was still feeling odd. But I understand that point of view and I'm not going to judge a person harshly if it was indeed their choice. I only feel bad if they were manipulated or blackmailed into doing it. Like, "we're not going to renew your contract unless...." or " remember how you got the lead role for that drama? With one phone call I can have it taken away." If that kind of stuff is happening, that's horrible. Also, another thought. When I was told about these shady meetings, it was probably like... back in 2014. The way he told the story gave me the impression that maybe these stories came from perhaps the 2000 - 2012 era of Kpop. But, I dunno ... if Grazy has heard of it recently, then it's gotta be still happening. Very secretive, very in the shadows. I truly hope its not at least rampant and just ...happening a little here and a little there.

I feel like this thing probably still goes on. I mean there isn't a real repercussion for it. Most of the time, they are able to have this arrangement and keep it secret. So there's no reason that this would stop. But the thing to remember is that unfortunately a variation of this happens in most entertainment industries around the world.

This happens worldwide in the entertainment industry, but it does seem particularly strong in the idol culture of K-Pop and J-Pop. Some entertainers do it to draw a line between their public and private lives, others are told to act a certain way by their managers. I think it’s sad for the entertainers and the fans. The entertainers aren’t getting to express themselves in ways they might want to, and the fans never know if the stars they like are being genuine or not.

1. Ailee had scandal in 2013 (I was shocked at the time) which I was relieved she overcame: when she was 18 she got scammed into posing nude for a company pretending to be an underwear company. Then her ex bf (whom allegedly worked for Allkpop) tried to sell those photos to Dispatch. Before I heard the full story, I was shocked and disappointed as to why on earth Ailee would do nudes but soon as more details came out, I felt so bad for her as she was the victim. I'm glad the Korean public showed support.
