We emmigrated in 1998, our boys were 7 and 9, our lifestyle here in Brisbane is wonderful. I agree, I get homesick when family get together to celebrate during the year. My mum is 80 next year, did visit last year.

Moving so far from family Is the one thing that seems to be scaring me. We don't even talk to our family much as it is but an hour flight away is different from an 18 hour flight away. Great video, very relatable and insightful.

Millions and millions of people do it everyday, and have been for centuries. It's for the better of your own future, and your children's future. Millions have done it decades ago, when there was no internet, no email, face time, social media etc. You only had postal system to send letters which took weeks or months, and overseas phone calls. Which involved going through operators, phone exchanges, timed calls that cost a fortune. Most people could only afford to call once maybe twice a year if your lucky.

This is the bit of my move down under that really gets me. If it wasn't for missing friends and family, there isn't that much else that makes me want to stay in the UK. I'm at the stage of hoping to have kids pretty soon and looking at trying to raise them in London where we live now, I just don't know how anyone does it. The costs are absolutely insane and I don't really want to raise my kids in a small flat or miles out in the outskirts of London when we could raise them on on a beach in Aus! I've absolutely fallen in love with Aus the 2 times I went and it's always reassuring seeing how happy you are, despite clearly the big challenges that there are moving to the other side of the world. And yes where we're moving is so much cheaper than London for what you get, even if Australia is expensive!

My Kids are 12, 10, and 3, they all really wanna go, myself I see more career opportunities and just a better lifestyle, England has become a dump, I’m 41 now and see this as my only opportunity to either do it or not, but I see my Mother breaking down in tears if I was ever to break the news to her, a big part of me wants to leave, a small part of me thinks I can’t do it to her, but for me my kids future is the priority.

Look to the future of your children, your future! Mother's know there kids have to leave home sometime - leave the nest - sometimes unfortunately, the emotions can be manipulation not love, love is unselfish! Be strong and firm! 🙋

Women seem to feel the loss of friends and family more than men. Kimberly Lucas on her KZbin channel, and 12 months in to migrating, seems to be really feeling it, whereas somehow the two of you have crested the despair trough to a much greater extent.

Traditional things and reminiscing for nostalgia are just part of age not necessarily distance. Find a craft that hones you back to a sense of curiosity and goal setting aims - as boring as making a box kite from scratch and teaching the kids or taking up crotchet and making a family quilt with squares you all contribute from here and abroad - connections come in different ways that overcome distances the world has already overcome through the rewaards that are achieved.

Really enjoyed this honest video. Moved to Queensland three years ago and have no regrets at all. It’s a wonderful place to bring up kids. Almost ashamed to say I have absolutely zero homesickness. Going back to the UK for the first time at Christmas and I’m looking forward more to the 24 hours in Singapore than the time in the UK 😬

My family moved here in 1967. (Shoutout to anyone who was a £10 Pom who came over on the M/V Aurelia) We lived in Canberra. My Grandmother wrote to mum and asked her to pay a visit to a friend of hers to say hello. She lived in Perth! When mum said no, I can’t my grandmother was most put out and told her to stop making excuses and being so selfish and that it wouldn’t hurt to make an effort.😊

A great video guys. makes me think about my situation. i moved from England in 1964. all we had back then was an airogram that came once every two weeks. Phoning was a very rare occurance as we didnt have that opportunity back then. we moved because my parents wanted to give the kids a better life. and we have had a better life and thats it the goal. we have to let go of what we knew to get on with your dreams. i knew my grandparents via the airograms. but life in Australia is way better than if you stayed behind back home.

So, I came to Aus when I was 4, my parents left the state when I was 20 to move to qld, and I stayed in vic. My extended family was in various places in qld. I understand the feelings of isolation from family well. I understand the pull to your parents and friends but there comes a point where your own family takes precedence and others start to become less important, harsh as it sounds. Having moved to regional towns our experience might help here. In Australia to study and have a career it is mostly necessary to be in the cities. I envy my friends in Melbourne who have their kids at home while they study and get established. My kids had to leave home,rent, work and try and study and we missed them. It was harder and ultimately the kids have probably not achieved to a level they would have if we had stayed in a capital city. My suggestion is make your own nest that the kids can be with you if they need. Be the house you miss from “home” where friends and family drop in and stay. Don’t move regional if you have a choice. The health care is worse but the commute is sensational. Swings and roundabouts. Many many Australian families are fragmented these days, the southern migration north has broken family bonds and society is not better for it. Excessive house prices mean your kids can’t afford to live nearby so I think it is getting worse. This feedback has taken a turn but I think the mental health crisis in this country and others is probably mostly down to loneliness caused by fragmented families. Think hard about the move, what is important to you? Where are you in your life? Is a better lifestyle more important than the bonds of family to your mental health. Hopefully this helps someone.

Guys, don't mean to be unsympathetic but you should do what every aussie does --- save up for a trip and look for cheap airfares. Used to be every aussie would have a gap year in europe after leaving school. EXCEPT in your case, you can bring rellos here and they've somewhere to stay (i.e. with you). That's a saving. HERE'S ANOTHER WAY TO LOOK AT THINGS -I can leave my home in Sydney and be IN LONDON in less than a day. Awesome eh?

The upside is that when you move away from everyone you actually become an extremely close nuclear family. Our family became very strong and supportive and that has never changed, and I’ve noticed that with other migrant families as well.

Aroura (spelling sorry .. . its just o eh .. damn!) her not wanting to do stuff - "being lazy". She's TIRED! I reckon that's it. Going to School even for a day let alone 5 days a week IS REALLY TIRING! I used to run reading programs in Grades 1 and 2 and Help @ Tuckshop once 1 month or more (convened full time 5 days a week @ one school for 1 year as well) and had 3 kids so triple that regime as well. IT's Bloody Tiring going to school. She's only little and she's just started school - she's just tired I reckon.

Genuine question - do you think this channel is keeping you locked into comparisons and not allowing you to fully embrace your life in Australia? I emigrated from UK when I was 21 and now 40 years later and the early years did have me comparing UK to Australia, but my children and husband are Australian and have little interest in the UK and I am so grateful to have moved to Australia. We have planned holidays to meet up and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s the people as you say that you miss definitely not the UK. Technology is a great help in staying in touch . Thanks for the video😊

Thankyou for this! After seeing a lot of family members this weekend (which is rare) I’m just thinking is this the right decision? But this has reassured me!! Started talking about this in Feb, job hunting in march, interview beginning of April, job confirmed end of April and hoping to start the visa process this week!! Guys! What a great movie. Thank you so much for these insights. I wonder whether you know sth about private schools in Brisbain/Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast. Have you ever been in any? Southport, St Hilda, Trinity. What features should a good private school have and which one is worth to pay money for. What additional curriculums they should have? How much are swimming lessons in the leisure centre and how much in the private school or are they in the curriculum (for free?). Are you considering a private school for your girls later from year 7? A lot of voices can be heard that even state school teachers are sending their kids to private school? Which catholic private you know are good.Thanks a lot in advance as you have more access to the first hand info. Homesick won't be sth we are worrying about as we are not close to our family any way. Wirdows? 😂 We are coming for indefinet stay in December! Cannot wait to start our new life down under! ❤

I don’t think there is any need to stress about private schools. If you live in a middle class neighbourhood you will almost always be in a catchment for a good state school. Almost all state schools have swimming lessons for children either in their own pool or a nearby pool in the warmer months. If you think about how much you spend on private school fees, compare that to what activities, experiences and adventures your children could have for half that amount. I have younger extended family members who went to both and I can see no discernible differences in their educational and social outcomes. I do find the state school educated teens to be a little more tolerant, grounded and kind in their attitudes and actions.

What you are not being told is that if you come here poor you will be a slave to the landlord all your life. Australia was a good country for migrants, but not anymore.
