It's no secret that the MetaZoo card game is filled with tons of genuine lore and legends. But it also has it's fair share satanic and demonic symbolism as well. Let's dive into this and explore why they might have decided to include such stigmatized symbolism in the game.

The set is called Nightfall. It’s the Halloween set. The set with Dark vs. light behind the the prominent auras. This makes sense.

im soo glad i never grew up in an extremely religulous family/environment.. half of my family is quite religious/superstitious, and throughout my childhood i found my cousins missing out on soo much life.. fun.. youth... they couldnt collect pokemon as they were 'satanic'.. heck.. couldnt even listen to some music.. like 'Blue' from nsync cuz it was satanic.. lol.. the 90s were.. simpler times with simpler people.. i almost forgotten about most of that ''satanic panic'' from my youth.. though i didnt really consider MetaZoo doing it intentionally, aside from lore accuracy.. but it does make sense.. alot of what they have done was either to honor other TCGs or directly inspired by them it seems.. so it would make sense doing similar things in the vein of pokemons early days etc etc.. i quite like the concept.. the only thing that would ruin it for me is if they succumbed to the panic, retconning/reprinting/deleting some of their older work.. i like that they seemingly dont care if it potentially causes a little negative press, perspectively.. I hope they keep going with the bold.. true to self way that MetaZoo is currently at..

I can relate, I can cousins that were exactly like that too. Agree very much with your overall points are perspective. It will be interesting to see if they make any changes, or if they stay true to their own vision and brand.

What you were referring to from back in the day was one example of a time period of "Moral Panic" as the term is coined. ITs happened in various fashions and times periods throughout the ages, but was more cited and recognizable during the 20th century when some parents thought, as you said, MTG was dark, just like some thoguht Dungeons and Dragons was dark as well back in the 70s and 80s. Hell there have been Moral Panics regarding video games many times too, and even comic books such as the great comic book burning period over 70 years ago where tons of mothers would gather and take all their sons coomics and burn them in huge piles. This is also one of the reasons for such low numbers of comic books from that era. Sad times when peoples ignorance makes them take it out on childrens toys and games of entertainment. I remember those times...*smfH*

Dang I didn't realize it hit the comics like that too back in the day. They literally lit their children's future on fire. Those books would be worth a small fortune today. Not to mention of course, they're valuable pieces of pop culture history forever lost for no good reason.

Pentagram, 666, Satan. Pretty standard for a Halloween theme set I would think. Will be interesting to see if it leads anywhere on future expansions. Cryptid lore gets pretty messed up

@@Swammey Oh yeah that would be sweet. Oh man, I'd take any and all alien lore. The greys for sure, but having reptilians and pleiadians would be amazing. Plus whatever else they throw in, there is so much lore there.

Thanks! Yeah each set is gonna have a dedicated secret rare lottery card. The print run is so small that they're worth a ton of money on the secondary market.

Love your channel but you need more research. It is demonic though! But more lore based. Look into the Veil and it's concept in history and the read the Metazoo comics.

Has the designer explained the design and why an upside star ect…. Well conflict equals profits and if satan is the King of this realm of profits… tons of satanic stuff called upon to create profits…. I didnt play swamps till just 3 months ago. So for 27 years I refused to play black… To me casting is casting and if you cast with intention you are casting with intention….

thank you so much for this video! I've been really wanting to collect it, I freaking love cryptids, however I just opened a pack today and I'm not sure I want to open more because of the pentagram. I guess I just don't get why it's necessary at all. I get it in the Halloween decks but every card? I'm not sure it's for me, such a bummer too.

I think there's certainly plurality to the symbolism and a level of ambiguity. But as you know in the actual card game, not only are terra a major component in gameplay but so are your literal surroundings. The star (the pentagram) is said to represent one's relationship to their surroundings and the elements. And inverse, it introduces the nuances of humanity (perhaps reflecting on the "caster's" character/behavior/strategy in gameplay). Like you said, there's no ignoring the fact that there is dark symbology present but, again, I think it's multilayered. The game uses rather "wizardy" and alchemic vernacular (caster, spells, potions, auras, etc.) and I mean, pentagrams and witchcraft and wizardry kinda go hand in hand... BUT... There's the other end of the symbol... Where clearly we have Hell's Gate, Old Scratch, Pyre, the upside down cross... Lol. I don't think they're championing the demonic symbolism though...

If people are offended by the imagery, I would kindly point them towards Christian friendly alternatives; like (Redemption and Animo). They don't have to play/buy Metazoo and no one's forcing them to.

Just wait until the seance set comes out….I am in the same boat as you really. Cards are cardboard. I don’t worship them or place any stock in their meaning. If Mike was revealed to be a satanist some day and this whole time everyone was just buying into his belief system you’d see some backlash I’m sure but I think the majority of people (sadly) do not have a personal belief system and its not going to bother them. Mike is an extremely savvy business man; we’ve seen this already with the success of the game. It wouldn’t surprise me if the reverse pentagram was specifically used to create controversy, which creates buzz. If that’s the reason for doing it though I’m just not sure it’s necessary to create that controversy (and yes there will be some) in order for the game to succeed.

The satanic themes disturb me. But since the game is about cryptids, it makes sense because dark/ghostly cryptids have been depicted by religions/storytellers/drug trips etc. for thousands of years. That being said, if I pulled an Old Scratch, I'd destroy it. It's a foul card in my opinion. I have to question the judgement of anyone who thinks to design a card like this. The fact that it's the only lottery card available means that Metazoo creators are placing special significance on Satan. Some might say the success of Metazoo in such a short amount of time seems a bit unnatural. According to what I know, there's only 1 despicable force which is capable of granting instantaneous success....

Fair question, I don't see it as something kids would like very much either, but some people do see it that way. I'd think teens and older because of all the lore.

I like the art of the cards that's how all tcg/any card ever made works, everyone has there favourite looking card and there less favourite card and there obviously people like you and me that don't like the look of any of the cards that a company brings out, the same with all sports cards in my case I don't like the look of them and have no interest in them, I've never even dedicated my time to comment or even watch a youtube vedio on them.
