Haley Nichols he wasn't trying to "educate" his viewers hence the disclaimers during his videos. Derp. It was a fucking drama series about Jake Paul. All content on youtube is entertainment, hell Felix himself called Logan Paul in all seriousness a "straight up sociopath" a few months before posting this video. Funny how iTs DiFfeReNt WhEn iTs pEwDiEpie, while he taunts youtubers with admitted depression having mental breakdowns online who he mocks for "entertainment" purposes and of course money. Its all funny though right? Doesn't bother me when Pewdiepie, Shane or others online say shit for drama or entertainment as though it were true. Everyone eats it up here when it's potentially bipolar disorder, autism, anxiety or depression but when possible sociopaths might get their "feelings" hurt cause ITs A rEaL pRoBlEm everyone loses their minds. As someone who is studying psychology, I highly doubt she is a qualified therapist. I highly doubt a practitioner would speak about psychological disorders in that manner. She is being highly unethical. You absolutely can not incorporate your own point of view on these matters. You are expected to rid yourself of any form of judgement on these things. Its more a science, you stay fully objective. If she indeed is a therapist, it is unlikely that she is good.

@@dr.tadashizhang7719 I don't think anyone thought Shane's documentaries were actual documentaries but Shane had this reputation around KZbin that preceded him and everyone bought he was an actual empath with the best intentions. Cant blame people for wanting to believe the best in people and wouldn't call them stupid because of that. PewDiePie also nailed it with the analysis of the Tati video goodbye sister. It takes some level of smart unbiased criticism to be able to see the bigger picture and question something when everyone around you says otherwise.

I agree with you 100%, Jade Stanton. The outrage is always misdirected and overblown towards the wrong person. Shane's documentary is a disgrace, he had no regard for anyone who suffers mental illness, he and his "shrink" looked like children speculating about who is a sociopath (basically everyone) and resulted in them calling everyone crazy. Shane's video was irresponsible, disrespectful and outright embarrassing.

Hi hello I got my master's degree in forensic psychology because I was SPECIFICALLY interested in APD and psychopathy and that therapist was a freaking DISGRACE. Honestly Pewdiepie did a better job than the therapist explaining APD after a brief google than shane did in an 8 part series. Edit just to clarify: Felix is 100% correct, just because you have Antisocial personality disorder or psychopathy does not mean they are a murderer OR a terrible person. And just because you're a murderer or bad person does not mean you're a psychopath. Shane blurs this line to an almost criminal extent in this series. AND surprise surprise Logan Paul actually did a better job describing it than Shane's therapist friend. There is a PCL-R Psychopathy "checklist" where people do, indeed, get scored on a "spectrum" of psychopathy. You have to score pretty high on it to meet the criteria, but many many people (if not all) demonstrate at least a few of the criteria on that list.

definitely a disgrace. the therapist completely dehumanized people with apd. she made it seem like they’re void of human emotions. from the research i’ve done, people with apd can understand other people’s emotions, they just don’t have the same reaction to those emotions an average person does. she’s more concerning than a person with apd is, cause she’s willing to vilify other humans and tried to convince people they’re monsters

It doesn't matter what field of therapy she specializes in. As a therapist it's your job to remain unbiased and to help your patients. Reducing someone to just their mental illness, and dehumanizing them because of it is wrong. This is a huge red flag to see a therapist calling a mental illness icky and mocking it. She shouldn't have a job if that's how she sees her patients. Mental illness is a spectrum. That includes APD. So no, not every single person with APD will end up being a crazy axe murderer or even have those urges. Mental illness is so misunderstood as it is, and this video Shane made with her does not help. Even if she didn't know the full context of things, it definitely comes across as damaging for any patients she may have.

Rokuchi that’s not entirely accurate or fair to healthcare workers, specifically in the field of psychology. If a patient comes in you’re allowed to deny helping them if you feel you won’t be able to help them and they need to be placed in a hospital for their own safety, or if you just don’t want to be their therapist for personal reasons. Healthcare workers are not slaves, we aren’t obligated to see each and every patient who comes in the door. Some people are too far gone to be helped, it’s literally your job to “dehumanize” them in your own mind to try and separate them from the illness, that way you can better understand what exactly is going on and look for any patterns. Please don’t misrepresent how therapy works

Ihad my fair share of patients threatening/shouting, being physically aggressive etc. I ran a neurotic clinic with lots of patients with PD. I have one question: What therapy/treatment can you deliver if you "dehumanize" a patient and "separate them from their illness"? As a healthcare professional you are obliged to help everyone over the door. However, if you think you do not have the capability to help them, or there are other people that are more qualified to help, you refer them to whomever you deem fit(in their best interest). If you really work in the mental health setting, it seems like you are very burnt out and I am very worried for you.

Sociopaths are not psychopaths. Rather, they’re created by childhood experiences (these experiences can happen in adult life, too) or mental/physical trauma. These circumstances cause them to be a little distant from other people, *develop* not *obtain* psychopathic traits, and still have a conscience. However, they realize they have to fit in to make friends (as they still have the desire to make some depending on who the sociopath is), so they can exhibit some questionable behavior. This is not to say that they’re psychotic or evil, but were molded differently during the early social development of their life.

Exactly. By all accounts, I count, and have the diagnosis, of being a sociopath. The main thing I struggle with is empathy and being empathetic towards others. I don't intend to come off as cold and harsh as I do sometimes but I can't help it. In other words, some children who grew up in an unhealthy environment tend to lack empathy since they have not learned the importance of creating bonds with other people. Thus, the questionable behavior that people tend to notice about them. And yes, they’re develop not obtain. Trauma often affects people in many different ways and what I can understand in my point of view, people who have anti-social disorder realized that in order not to get hurt by their past traumas to occur again; they avoid social bonding or emotional bonds to protect themselves to the world.

What is worse is that she signed up for reinforcing faulty ideas about personality disorders when she, as a professional, should care about giving truthful information to the masses advancing popularization of science and NOT exacerbate already widely spread misinformation. Yeah, it's often complained about when people criticize one another, but that just creates a circlejerk of people never doing anything different because they don't recieve or take to heart actual criticism. Pewdiepie was VERY light in his criticism of this video. Even the parts I saw were really awfully done. The therapist was very judgemental, gave inaccurate statistics, and blatantly disregarded any logic when affirming what exactly were sociopathic reactions to things. Similarly Shane did an awful job in acting all scared and frightened of every single bad thing anyone said, using no logic when viewing things like the picture of logan paul or the bar and saying how 'sociopathic' they were, as well as trying to manipulate people into a sort of detest for this by adding creepy music for scenes where they were describing the disease (its basically like if I made a video describing autism and made it sound like I was narrating a fricken creepypasta, creepy music and spooky imagery while also sharing photos of celebrities that were thought to possibly have autism) while also showing images of other youtubers HEAVILY IMPLYING that they were sociopaths. Plus the bullsh*t apology afterwards. The thing is, sociopathy isnt something that makes people murderers or something, its just a lack of emotion and empathy. These people can easily learn to adapt for their own survival and feign emotions or whatever to blend in if thats what they choose, or they could become awkard stay at home people watching videos on their computer, or even successful businessmen, it doesnt mean they are some sort of dangerous creep or an idiot without common sense, it just means they lack certain emotions.

I've been studying sociopathy and psychopathy for many years, and Shane Dawson did NOT do a good job of defining, explaining, or identifying what either of these personality disorders are. There are 3 traits, called the "Dark Triad," which when found simultaneously in an individual, indicate a high likelihood of sociopathic behavior. They are Narcissism, shallow empathy, and Machiavellianism. Psychopathy adds a 4th trait: Sadism. This, with the previous three traits, are known as the "Dark Tetrad." You can find personality profiles online that can give you an idea of how high you rate on any of these traits, but an online test in NOT a substitute for a clinical diagnosis. Don't think you understand anything just because you watch Shane's series.

I agree. The series didn’t do a good job of explaining sociopathy at all. It sort of lumped sociopathy/psychopathy/ASPD all together, even though they aren’t exactly the same thing. A lot of the series revolved around misconceptions. I don’t think it’s entirely Shane’s fault, since part of the reason he made the series was to learn about the subject (he admitted to not knowing much about it). However, he should have gone to a different person for information, and done more research himself. Kati was very ignorant on the subject, which was obvious just from the way she speaking about it. Reading the comments on all the videos, it’s clear that the series gave most people the impression that a sociopath is just a person who does shitty things, when in reality there is SO much more to it than that. The fact that people keep saying “I think so-and-so is the real sociopath” is really problematic, especially since a lot of them probably don’t have a real grasp on what sociopathy is.

@Dank Eagle If you are talking about "bipolar disorder" then Ofcourse. We have more emotion than any other people. But we are a little too suicidal. As medication is important and I take them regularly I don't face hypermanic phase that much. When I do I don't get out as I become a little too much extrovert (ps I'm an introvert by the way). The biggest problem is "delusion". Yu might have read in some "romantic novels" where the character with bipolar is abusive which isn't true but we can be a jealous. I know myself I am completely aware of my "problems" and thas why I never been in a relationship as Its hard if someone isn't understandable. But labelling it as "sociopath" pffftt .. You can do some search of their behaviour.

I love Pewds so much because he can make me laugh, he will play all the scary games I’m too scaredy to play, and then when it comes to serious topics (like mental health in this video) he uses logic and common sense to determine things. He’s a well rounded person, he has aspects and depth to him. I might just be fangirling tbh but it makes me happy to see that someone with such a large following actually using their brain and saying that we shouldn’t vilify or call mental illnesses “gross”.

i've watched a video of her (the therapist) talking about the netflix series "13 reasons why" and it really scared me. because the way she talked about depression made me feel like she has no understanding of what it actually is. the way she addressed it gave me the impression that she's just read about it in textbooks and has memorized some words. and this is scary because she's putting information about psychological issues on youtube. a lot of people watch videos about mental illnesses because they're experiencing those issues. they feel helpless and confused and are looking for answers, and for someone who claims to be a professional to give false information is dangerous. i admit that i'm not her subscriber and haven't watched a lot of her videos. i don't really know her either. but i know that she isn't really all that knowledgeable and she doesn't even know (or care about) it. i would usually steer clear of leaving negative comments about people, but i think this isn't something to be ignored because mental issues are no joke. if you think i'm wrong about her, please let me know because if i'm right we should probably do something.

I read somewhere that she specializes in eating disorders. She literally described conditions as "gross" and "icky" and made vomiting noises, ie really triggering things for many people suffering from an ED. So unprofessional and plain rude in some parts. Smh.

I like it when pewdiepie make more serious videos because I think he has some very good points and I really respect his opinion. I think he has a lot of experience and maturity that other KZbin’s don’t have while still being funny. It’s great and I would love for him to make more videos like this. YEAAAA keep up the awesome work!

You have to consider just how many shades of KZbin Pewds has seen. He's watched so many come and go, some huge rises and even bigger fails. He's struggled with giving up and knows what it's like to be overwhelmed by it all. Most see him as the video game goof ball, but he prob has acquired more knowledge than we will ever really know.

I've stopped watching Pewdiepie videos for a few years now just because they seemed to become just overly childish and cringe jokey for me personally. But every once in a while he releases videos like these and I am immediately drawn back to him. He is a lot more intelligent than anyone gives him credit for and I love it when his videos exemplify it

@@monke980 There's a lot, so I'll probably miss some, but here goes nothing. He did blackface A LOT. He reinforced stereotypes about black people and said the n word multiple times. He made multiple jokes about r*ping minors. I could be wrong, but I think he pretended to m**turbate to picture of Willow Smith (I think that's her name) who was a minor at the time. He had this thing a few years ago where some fans sent pictures of them wearing his merch (the girls in these looked about 11-12) and he said something to the effect of "If there weren't any cameras around, I'd r*pe you all." There was a lot more to the pedophilia thing, but I haven't looked at all this in a while, so I don't remember exactly. If you don't already need to pour bleach in your eyes, you will after this next part. He made A TON of suggestive moves with multiple pets. You read that right. I think he said something about c**ming on his cat on a podcast. He said that was a joke to be "edgy" but there are a lot of videos showing him doing WEIRD things. There was definitely more, but I think that's the worst of it. Before you ask, yes. I am embarrassed that I know all of this. Quarentine did this to me. dangelowallace made a video about it that covers everything, so I'd watch that if you really want to know.

Katrine Kaersvang Anti-social Personality Disorder is a scary condition. Like with any mental illness, some cases are worse than others, but it can be pretty harmful, not usually to the person diagnosed with it, but to others around them. My sister was diagnosed with it, and that's when they ended her therapy sessions (from a clinical standpoint, many therapists find it unethical to treat people with ASPD through therapy because it can worsen their condition and make them better manipulators). It's an ugly truth, but it is the truth. I'm sure most people with this disorder aren't my sister, and so I agree that the whole thing could have been handled with more sensitivity, but it also seems like, in their rush to jump on the righteous hate bandwagon, a lot of people are forgetting how harmful this actually can be and how helpful it is to know the signs that someone is manipulating you. Mental health disorders run in my family. My dad has type 1 bipolar disorder (the really bad kind) and Aspberger's. I've said this same thing when talking about his condition, as well as my sister's: it's so important not to stigmatize mental health, but it's just as important not to sugarcoat it. Sometimes the people most affected aren't those with the condition, but rather those around them. Like with my dad's bpd, when he's in a manic state, he's not suffering. He's on top of the world. It's everyone around him who suffers through his actions. Then when the manic phase ends, if he does enter into the depression phase (sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't) that's when he suffers, too. I realize it may seem like this is totally unrelated, but I say all of that to say that, for one, sometimes yo y have to talk about the dark side of mental health for the sake of other people, and for two, when you deal with these issues, you become desensitized to them so it can be easy to forget how the way you talk about them might be perceived. I think that's closer to what happened here with Kati. I don't think she said anything with malice or ill will toward people with this condition. And if you watch her videos on her personal channel, she has those wide-eye mannerisms anyway. She's one of those people who you can pause the screen at any point and it'll look like she's deep in emotion but it's just the way she speaks. Now, she shouldn't have used words like icky and gross, but I also can recognize that she did so while describing lack of remorse and manipulation, not while describing a person. All she knew was that Shane asked her to break down what a sociopath is. I don't think the hate she's getting matches the crime is basically all I'm saying.
