My brain: Oak called Red to go to Mt. Silver after the Gen 2 protagonist beat Blue. I just thought that Red was just travelling around the world in that 3 years between Gen 1 and Gen 2.

I felt he was simply looking for a challenge or training but then why didn't he ever go home to see his mum in three years? At least to let her know he was okay, he doesn't even return home after you defeat him. What if he & his pokemon somehow died in Mount silver & that was his ghost/spirit? It explains why he was gone for three years with no contact, why entry to Mount silver is restricted to trainers that have earned all 16 badges & defeated the elite 4 + champion & why he disappears in to thin air never to be seen again after you defeat him? Maybe he was able to move on after he lost his title of true champion.

I've always been annoyed by the death of Blue's Raticate theory since the biggest myth in pokemon debunks it. I'm talking about Mew being under the truck by the S.S.Anne. If you can skip the battle on the S.S.Anne, without cheats, then you can't possibly be the reason for Raticates disappearance. Blue has no parents and although we're never told why, he could've been at Lavender tower to mourn a fallen pokemon belonging to one of his parents. Or he was just there to catch a ghost pokemon for his own pokedex. After all, he never actually tells you why he is there in the first place, but his goal was always similar to yours/Reds. As for Raticate disappearing, it's just a weak pokemon. Probably wanted a better team or something idk

I've personally never liked the raticate theory, just as I don't like the Ash in a come theory, I think what makes theories fun is the amount creativity and conversations is creates!

And plus, in USUM you actually get to battle thr leaders of the different organizations. Some of those designs are different, like with Giovanni(Rainbow Rocket) and Maxie and Archie(their designs being different when compared to their ORAS designs). So maybe the Red from USUM didn't take his own life and instead started a friendship with Blue, or at least, some kind of mutual relationship.

There is one BIG reason to why your theory doesnt hold up. In pokemon gen 2 you can battle red several times. I cant remember if you have to wait or beat the E4 again but he reapears after you have beaten him. Nice theory thou.

My theory is that. Just like us. We have nothing much to do after becoming the champion and the only thing we can do is wandering around the region. That should explain why he is at on top of the mt. Silver. He is just bored af

All that over a Raticate? Come on. Even if Red beating Blue for the Championship mere moments after the protagonist's rival had done the same, robbing him of any time to revel in his own victory is what actually happened when even in-game, Blue would likely have been Champion for at lest a few hours as Red fought through the Elite Four, if not a day, word getting out that Red may or may not have intentionally killed Blue's Raticate, which probably every single trainer in the region had the opportunity to catch and train at least one of due to how numerous Ratata are, was enough to turn the entirety of Kanto against him? Seriously? Get out of here. Other people's Raticate could have died as a result of battle, too. They're not special or particularly strong. Far more likely, Red had just been traveling following finishing the Kanto Pokedex in search of Pokemon from other regions and stopped at Mt. Silver to await a worthy challenge, which came from Ethan, then he left to train more and get stronger.
