probably the reason i like Walter is because he plays an important role in a lot of Stephen's books. He's Walter, of course, he's also Martin, maybe even Merlin, Randall Flagg, Andre Linoge (Legion), and most recently, the Tax Collector in 11/22/63.

Subscribed to this channel quite a long time ago, while searching DT-related music on KZbin. After all these years this is still one of my favorite pieces, so melancholic and so touching. Everytime I hear it, it kinda' sends me back in time

Great work! Regarding the "death" of the man in black, I don't really think one can kill him, at least I see him as King's way of depicting evil itself. So Walter O'Dim and Randall Flagg are the same being. Flagg was "killed" in The Stand, which occured before the Dark Tower if you buy my theory that Lud is the ruins of NYC after the plauge, yet he came back. It's similar to Roland who has to hunt the dark tower forever. They're both so sad characters.

At the end of the 1990's The Stand version you learn Flagg's not dead, he only disappeared before the explosion.

((SPOILERS DON'T read past this point if you haven't finished the series, you've been warned.)) Alright, I'm reading the 7th book and I felt a little....well saddened by Walters death. I mean don't get me wrong I hated Flagg but I feel his fate wasn't deserved. I mean to be forced to rip out your eyes, and lose your tongue then be drained of all liquids....seems like a bit much to me.

yeah that is true. either way he's definitely a very important character. I used to think The Raggedy Man was a form of Walter, but then i realized he's a sort of Twinner/Reference to the Crimson King, which i thought was pretty cool. something pretty ironic is that all of the stuff in the Stand sorta started on June 19th, which, im sure u know, is when Stephen King got hit. but its ironic because the Stand (at least the book, im currently watching the movie) is before he got hit, so thats cool.

I HATED the way The Man in Black was killed off in the final Dark Tower book!! He goes out like a wuss, and was killed early in the book with no final confrontation with Roland and his Ka-Tet! He is one of Roland's greatest enemies, and he deserves a better death than what he's given. Really disappointed!

I think it's kind of an extension of the decay brought about by the Breakers attacking the beam. The universe is being broken so much it's effecting narrative causality, making it so expected tropes and cliches don't happen.

He's not Merlin. We actually encounter this wizard in The Wind Through the Keyhole, albiet as part of a tale for children (though one that features Flagg, so there's probably a nugget of truth).

ya my bad. i know he Martin, Walter, and Randall Flagg all for sure 100%. I'm pretty sure its actually Maerlin instead of Merlin now, so hes Maerlin, but not Merlin, he's definitely Linoge, and I made a mistake when i said 11/22/63, i actually meant Wind through the Keyhole, so my bad on those two, which makes him the Covenent Man (a.k.a. Tax Collector)

I understood who you were referring to. I still disagree that Merlin/Maerlyn are seperate people. Even if they were, it's highly unlikely either is Flagg, since Maerlyn only gets mentioned in pre-revision versions of The Gunslinger when Walter and Marten were not the same person (and Maerlyn was another order of sorcerer altogether.)
