Good nuance and a lot of information I never knew before. I wonder if there is any continuity to earlier Christian forays into Africa like the Portuguese Catholics in the kingdom of Kongo

Call me bitter, but even if you say not all missionaries had ulterior motives/agendas the, colonialist still used them, piggy backing off the good will and familiarity some of the missionaries created in africa/Zambia. The missionaries invariably paved the road.

Interesting perspective, I hope to share something more on the topic, early November, hope you'll get to review it also🙂🙏🏼

So early missionaries were often anti-imperialists. Some even exposed Leopold. Why is it that I never hear of later missionaries that supported African nationalism? Modern missionaries never report on the politics of the countries that they evangelize. What did missionaries think when Lumumba was assassinated? Did they all march in lockstep with Allen Dulles? It's really curious that most American Christians are Republicans, and many send money to World Vision, which used to feed Zambia, yet World Vision never criticized Kaunde's socialism. Hichilema is a black conservative, and they don't support him. For a long time, I myself was unaware that there are many conservative Christian nationalists in Africa, many of which are fans of PLO Lumumba. Pentekkkostalism has its own way of supporting neocolonialism in the form of supporting bad leaders.

Wow alot of lines of inquiry there. Certainly worth looking into. Thanks for the feedback @jasonc0065

@@TheZHistorian Today, I found a thank you note that Hichilema had sent to World Vision, and they had shared it. But in general, they are not good at keeping us in touch on those issues.

What attracted them in the first place
@TheZHistorian2 жыл бұрын
Different Missionaries came for different reasons @Hannah. Some to spread the gospel. Others were attracted by Africa's resources and opportunities.
