On the one hand, Ron and Harry were rather emotionally immature in their treatment of Hermione early on. On the other hand, Hermione seemed to be a bit pushy and condescending initially. But as it turned out, on the third hand, Harry and Hermione fit in well, both together and with The Weasley family. Neither Harry nor Hermione would have had many friends or felt that they fit in, socially. Hanging out with The Weasleys, they would have had a whole roomful of new friends right from the start. Plus, a pair of extra parents, too. I can't help but think that not only was Dumbledore subtly involved in some way, but McGonagle and Snape probably were, too. Possibly all of the heads of the houses might have been able to pick and choose, up to a point, and nudge new students towards the house that chose them. 🪄🔮🎱

Maybe a little more about the trace. In book two Harry received a letter from the Ministry for the magic performed by Dobby, but What about the magic that Hagrid used in Dudley in the first book? It was wordless and with a "broken" wand. Hagrid, due to his past, was not allowed to use magic, but no one went against him or Harry. Do they only check certain places where Muggle-borns live? Does that mean that Harry could've always go to a random forest and do magic with no one knowing?

Interesting thought, and perhaps Dumbledore spoke to the select people he could trust, including McGonagall and the Weasleys about the possibility of Harry choosing friends like Ron and Hermione, then he hoped everything would work in his favour. Because he knew Harry would probably be the one who beat Voldemort, but he needed the circumstances to be right, and it was partly luck that Harry was like he was, and chose those friends who would help, love and support him the ways they did eventually.🌟⭐💖

For example, why did Mrs. Weasley yell out about Muggles and asking the platform number is really suspicious considering she went to Hogwarts for 7 years and she's been taking her children to the same place every year over the last decade?

Dumbledore didn't know Pettigrew was the traitor until book three. That said, he did think Sirius was the traitor.
