Tbh i am genuinely not surprised that things were like this back in the 1930s but i definitely wish that people could've just hired crazy acrobats in movies so that so many people wouldn't have to be on the brink of death
@marinamcbain14 күн бұрын
Yeah it's crazy! with the use of the toxic makeup, the dangers were already known at that time. But they put the actors through it because it would look better for the film

My favorite bit of movie lore is the synchronicity between Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wizard of Oz, a psychedelic coincidence for recreational drug users in the 70’s. My least favorite Wizard of Oz fact is the paradox that 14-year-olds in Iowa can legally drive, buy Galaxy gas, sip synthetic lean, work at a slaughterhouse, yet cannot check out the book Wicked from their high school library due to book bans and censorship. A really great video for sure and The Wizard of Oz is a stark reminder of the exploitative nature of the Hollywood system.

Yes, it was a nightmare to make and kinda suprised they didn't abandon it. Its also tragic for all the trouble they cut out like 5 songs( including trimming down songs) and bits of dialogue/ visuals didn't make sense. Still, a beloved masterpiece. They should have tied the best supporting Actress with Margaret Hamilton. I probably would have thought of suing if I was here. Careerwise, it would have been over in those days.

Response to Margarett Hamilton being burned, and realizing she'd be sued if she complained, "I think that sums up hollywood....." Not just hollywood, it pretty much sums up all workers rights in the 1930's especially when it comes to woman and other groups in society didn't really have a lot of ability to speak up for themselves. It isn't as though people were being treated great at the time in factories or coal mines.

Recently, I was watching Wizard of Oz-related content on KZbin, and I came upon this video, hence found your channel for the first time. It watched it and reacted so hard when I learned a lot more things from it, and I was quite appalled with much trauma that all the cast members went through in making this *cursed* classic. It can't imagine how much of a fiasco that production had created. Still, since this movie was made during the earliest generation of filmmaking, all studios could learn a lot from their mistakes. And even though performing on set will always be dangerous in general, especially for stunt doubles, the advancements of filmmaking, technology, and safety mechanisms will surely lessen the more risks in productions. Therefore, it's always worth sharing about what was discussed in this video as it serves as a "PSA" to viewers that "the grass is not always greener on the other side." Like the saying goes, "we'll never know what others are going through." Still, I really love this video as it shows that you put a lot of work and research towards producing this video. I also enjoy the style and your expressions for these types of informative as it certainly captures the viewers' attention when you're speaking in front of the microphone. Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to see more of your content really soon!! 🤍 Cheers!

phenomenal video!! the history of these books and movies is beyond disturbing l. frank baum himself (the author of the 14 wizard of oz books) was so problematic; he was an absolute monster not only did he make racist political cartoons that were almost certainly a main factor of wounded knee massacre (the largest mass sh**ting in usa history making over 300 indigenous victims on dec. 29th 1890), but he ALSO appropriated the words "red skins" in political cartoons and media because he wanted to 'paint their (indigenous people's) brown skin red with blood.' some of these ads he wrote and illustrated called for literally sc*lping indigenous people that was around 1890. then only 10 years later, in the introduction to the first oz book, he writes about how he doesn't want to write about anything too horrifying or scary for kids in his books in 2006 his family issued a public apology
