From November to May, more than half of the Palestinian refugees were displaced, and then the Arab armies entered in May. I am not Jewish. I am Australian and a retired Australian military member. I am 39 and if Isreal ever needs boots on the ground in the fight against the oppression of Islam I will gladly join them. I studied history at uni and I know the truth of what really happened in Israel over the last 2000 years. Jews were colonized not once but 4 times and miraculously they are still here. They beaten the odds so many times and have faced so much hardship maybe more than any other group in human history. I respect the fact that Jews had remained non violent and that they are not full of hatred when they have every right to be. For Jews to have finally had enough of being non violent shows how cruel and heartless they have been treated by the Arabs and other muslim countries. You can only poke the bear so much. My mother was born + raised in Jerusalem '31. Her best friend, Raya, was Muslim. During '48 Raya told my mom that the Arabs were planning to pledge a war against the Jews and that she and her family would need to move from Jerusalem to Syria, per the arab lege instructions, and that they'd return once the war was over = AKA Israel is over. The Palestini people are the remnants of Arab Muslim invaders who wanted to establish a Caliphate. They did, the Rashidun Caliphate. The Byzantines, the Persians and so many others fought over that land for years. But the original people were Jewish. They were the first to be dispossessed at about 650 AD. About half the Jewish population of Judea were exiled and killed by the Romans from 135-136 AD. Palestina Prima was a Byzantine territory which the Rashidun Caliphate won. The Jews were dispossessed far before that date when the Romans conquered Judea (Judah) in 63 BC. However, the Romans did not exile the Jewish population until 136 AD. As far as the Arabs now called Palestinians, it is clear that they never wanted and do not want a Palestinian state unless there is no state of Israel. That is why they refused one time and time again. The actual slogan "From the river to..." (excuse KZbin stops the post) is "From water to water Palestine will be Arab." Once that fact is accepted, there never will be peace because the Palestinians have to first accept Israel in order to accept a state.

But the obsession with it in Germany as well as demonstrations with questionable chants gave me no choice but to research this topic. It is so hard to develop a nuanced position. There is so much propaganda. UN and Amnesty International seem to consider Israel the most evil country in the world. Being from Russia it is kind of funny. I grew up in Iraq and that ‘they came from Europe and expelled the Palestinians’ was the story were were taught. Then after I came to the US I heard of a two state solution and I supported it, but it was only last year when I first heard the history from the Israeli side. (And with a few other details it made me switched my view completely, and the whole last year has been a learning experience I would say, that made me find many wonderful people (Israelis, Jews, and other Arabs and middle Easterners who support Israel) but changed how I see a lot of things around me. Just another thing I wanted to share (if it helps explain this to someone else): In July 26, 1991 Iraq invaded Kuwait. Of course it was a surprise for us. the reason I heard at the time (I was in the UK with family, so at least there) was that Kuwait’s selling of oil (or certain amount etc) was brining the prices down and hurting Iraq’s economy. Ok, two months later we go back to school (for me was junior high) and they were already telling us to remove or ignore parts of our books and giving us new maps that showed “Kuwait has always been part of Iraq” and “we were liberating it”. Of course we knew that wasn’t true but nobody was going to complain. We just played a long. (And I was happy the map got ‘corrected’ later, even though it cost terrible deaths in Iraq but I blamed all that on the idiot who started that war). Just to give an idea about the level of corruption in the Arab leaderships and media. And oh, another thing, a few months ago I found someone (on twitter) still believes Kuwait should be part of Iraq. ..

Ollie you skipped an important part. The displacement did not occur because the seven surrounding Arab armies attacked. It is due to the Arabs living on the land deciding not to accept the partition, and going out to murder Jews the day after the partition plan was accepted in the UN. People looove talking about 1948, but the war started 1947, when local Arabs set out violently to stop peace, to stop Jews from living on their land, to continue the genocidal crusade that their leader, Haj Amin Al Huseini, began in the holocaust

I'm trying to wrap my head around the sequence of events here. Israel wasn't a country prior to WW2, so the people who came to Palestine as settlers during that time (mostly Eastern Europeans who aren't in any way connected to that land in their own lives at least) weren't entitled to the land that other people were already present on. That's called colonialism, and we have never looked upon it favourably. But this is what happened. They insisted on cultural shift in Palestine, and when the Balfour Declaration was made the native Arabs rejected it; as any nation would when you have people encroaching on your land, making demands for cultural change, rather than at best, assimilating. So you essentially have a group of people who are only entitled to the land because an external party (The UK) said they were, with little to no regard for the people living there at that time, those people defended their stake for the land - as any nation would - lost, and we're supposed to think that this is a good thing? If your house had a squatter in it, you tried to defend against the squatter and they then kill your family and you're forced to leave, I wouldn't exactly be sympathetic to the squatter, regardless of whether that person has a copy of your house deed and claimed it was theirs because someone sold your house behind your back.

I don't often hear people talk about the core Islamic reason behind resistance to Israel. It's because the land surrounding (with no defined distance) the Al-Aqsa mosque cannot (as dictated by Islamic doctrine) be given away by any Islamic leader. It's not an Arab versus Jew state issue, from their point of view. It's Islamic doctrine on the existence of anyone other Muslims on that land. Obviously the issue has evolved over time.
