it might sound bad and maybe it even hurts to hear this, but what he's saying is mostly true. non of my mental ilsnesses went away just because i listen to kpop. i still had to work on them myself. kpop gave me comfort in moments i felt lonely and depressed, and maybe it even motivated me sometimes, but it didnt help me with any of my problems. i think the guy from the vid is just talking too aggresive (?). he generalises kpop too much. and also, some people can indeed be saved through kpop, but also some people can't. so i agree but also i slightly disagree lmao kpop can help you through a breakup (for example), but it can't help me with my mental problems, yk?

But it is. Enough idols have done songs highlighting the relationship between idols and fans. Dedicating these songs to their fans. NewJeans, however, took a different approach. They started to relate this relationship between idols and fans with the meaning of kpop in their fans' lifes. You can tell by the more obscure scenes (random shots of empty buildings and streets, the deer in the open field, etc.) emphazing loneliness. It's only when Heeso, our main character, starts filming NewJeans, when she finally seems happy. Completely immersed in filming NewJeans, Heeso is escaping reality. In side B she lets go of her camera and of NewJeans. She starts hanging out with the guy, finally facing and embracing reality.

You're not agreeing because you haven't really seen the level some kpop fans can reach. Like, you like kpop, it makes you feel good, cheers you up, makes you forget about bad things and moments. But that's it, you can live your life normally. There are fans who really can't. You see this from the fact that dating between kpop idols is extremely controversial. Fans can't see them living an ordinary life, away from them, they freak out. Many don't even want to have a social life, meet someone, leave the house, they only think about kpop and kpop idols. They even come to idealize a future with them. I think that's the kind of fans Ditto is talking about.

I think this is a very harsh reality newer kpop fans can't come into terms with. There are people out there that isolated themselves to a point that nobody recognizes them anymore. People who want to turn their life into their idols' life from execive exercising and starving to plastic surgeries and etc. They see these happy people behind the screens laughing and having a "good life" not knowing everyone struggles in the real world. And of course the companies don't want people to know that. They are only building their real life upon an idol image and some act for camera. They think they are being saved but they are only hurting themselves more. The thing is not all people are capable of being a kpop fan because they still haven't found themselves in life and kpop will only be a short distraction to them. Some people need to hear this, even if it's hard. Imo, the people that are using kpop properly wouldn't be surprised by this because they already have separated their real life from kpop. And no it doesn't mean not listening to kpop anymore or not enjoying it as much but to have an understanding that you shouldn't forget your own life and try to distract yourself with kpop content as a coping mechanism and avoid everything else.

Although I can see why people say the phrases "comfort person" and "Kpop saved my life" but that has never appealed to me personally. This is likely because Kpop doesn't provide the same level of support to individuals and the phrases are too generalised, like did it motivate you to follow your aspirations, stay committed, look at life from a wider perspective, or even inspire you to become an idol. I first became interested in Kpop when I was 12 years old and had no concerns. Today, I am 20 and learn both positive and negative life lessons from Kpop and the industry. it is apart of why I am the person I am just like my parents and my education. lol my parents thought it was a faze 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Just my thoughts ❤❤❤❤

i feel like, kpop can help someone to find happiness, BUT it is a TEMPORARY HAPPINESS. what i got from the video, he tried to say that the true happiness is actually the "real life happiness" (ex: when u finally success in relationship & career, when u finally know what u wanna be in future, when u finally solve ur problems with ur parents or friends, etc). kpop exist to entertain ppl. but in rl, our life is not just about entertainment. we should look at every aspect in our life which also important. so for me, saying "only kpop can save my life" is too extreme. cs at the end of the day, u save ur own life, by controling& understanding every aspect in ur life. kpop might give u a temporary happiness at ur lowest moment to continuing ur life. but only get that "happiness" doesnt mean ur life is already saved. u should do the next step to save ur life, which find the solution of ur problems. after that, ur life saved. so what i want to say is maybe "kpop helps to save our life" but "kpop is NOT the only thing that save our life". thats also why in the video, he said we also need to find another source of happiness beside kpop. cs if kpop is the only thing that save our life, then if kpop is "not exist" anymore (i said not exist cs i guess we all agree that nothing lasts forever), it'll be the end of our life. so depending on only one source of happiness is so much extreme. and i believe real kpop fans will use kpop wisely💙💚❤️💜

I think hes right he's just phrasing it in the worse way possible, kpop didnt necessary "save" my life but as someone who used to self harm and is now almost a year clean (February 28th) when i found kpop i found a community that i can laugh with and make friends out of, i think what he was trying to say is that the music alone wont stop you from being depressed completely and to not rely on idols bc you dont know them personally, you cant read their minds or talk to them directly without it being scripted and somethings they're legally bound by contract not to say. Even former idols and trainees have an NDA and its why idol life and trainee life is still such a huge secret. In all honesty if you meet them in person, even if they shake your hand and give you a smile they could still very well not like you, or think youre ugly just like everyone else in the world(not saying that anyones ugly omg that sounded bad) but they arent robots built peice by peice to be the perfect person they are humans that have real emotions, feeling and beliefs like me and you. Its ok to say "kpop saved my life" as long as its not the only thing keepign you going...because your fave could hurt you more than you would like to believe and you need something to fall back on instead of crashing into things that were troubling you before kpop. Let kpop be a verse not something you depend on. So all in all i agree but disagree with the wording lol.

Hey, welcome to my ted talk, is long as fuh so is ok if you don’t read. Call me “cringe” idc, Kpop did save my life, specially BTS let me tell you; I was 14 and I did try to “log out” multiple times until I found about them in 2013 literally 10 days after their debut (I have the date saved, that’s how important is for me) and I’ve been listening to them and other groups since then, one of the songs that talked to me heavy was “Tomorrow”, I started to go to Kpop related events here in my country, I joined a Kpop cover group, as an introvert who struggles really hard talking in public, showing emotion/excitement and making friends it really changed my perspective on a lot of things, I danced for 6 years, from high school to college, thanks to that I’m a little more talkative and friendly, I got to meet NCT’s choreographer, today I’m close to graduating and I still enjoy Kpop as if I just found about it, I went thru every phase you could think of: fanfic reader, fanfic creator, video edit creator, twitter hell, etc and I have 0 shame, I don’t regret it and I’m sure I never will regret listening to Kpop.

To be honest, when I started to become a kpop fan, I learned a lot of things about life and that even if I feel pressurered or down, I should always get up and help myself. When I became a kpop fan, I started exercising, applied for 2 jobs, worked one for a few months and moved to work a different job. I srtaed taking care of my health in general. Kpop helped me escape from really bad relationships, I wanted to end those relationships so badely and thanks GOD, kpop helped me forget those bad relationships.

It is interesting. However, for me KPop, especially BTS has given more happiness that I was missing in my life. I am a happy person but getting older things were slowing down. BTS brought light into my life that was missing. I feel that I am using BTS to give me joy and laughter. Life is slowing down for me in ways I was not expecting. At the end of the day, BTS adds to my happiness. It is my hobby, the music, the food, the culture. I am learning more every day. Borahae!

I was so glad you did this video. I watched the original and was confused AF. I can only think that this creator is talking to the fringe fans that are always stirring up trouble or have lost there identity to an idol obsession. I agree with you, if you are finding people who have similar interests and create community, K-Pop is amazing!! The "mental illness" aspect is NOT strictly a K-Pop issue - it is a "fanatic" or "extremist" issue!! K-Pop is powerful in so many ways and just like anything, it can be taken to very dark or bad places but it is not my responsibly to control those people. Again, any extreme in life is bad. The K-Pop community as a whole is respectful, glorious, amazing and magical!!! Idol sacrifice alot and as fans, we need to respect them and not expect them to superhuman. The message in this video is to the people that don't do that and most likely don't love themselves!

i understood the first half of the video and what the guy was talking about, but about half way through he kinda lost me haha. kpop may not be making drastic changes in my life but its improved my mood so many times. kpop can change people's lives and save people's lives but that's not the case for me, but i've seen it with other people and some of my friends. it can provide a good thing in a bad situation (bad home life, etc.). it can be an escape, but is that escape really bad if it provides a positive mood change? i don't think its a bad escape or distraction. sometimes people really need that distraction from life and if thats kpop, so be it. i know ive drowned myself in kpop content and listening to songs before because i needed a distraction and it helped. it helped to clear my mind of bad thoughts and it genuinely brought a smile to my face. i think the guy from the video is generalizing and assuming the worst. there are positive affects from kpop but there are also negative but it all depends on the person taking in the content. EDIT: i just wanted to add that kpop has had positive changes to my life because its made me feel motivated. my ult group is stray kids and seeing them work so hard and practice and produce all the time and encourage each other, that motivates me to work everyday and practice my skills a lot more than i used. it can bring positive changes.

I dont understand why the phrase "kpop saved my life" is so cringe or alien to ppl. Its literally just another phrase for "music saved my life" and its actually pretty common for fans to continue living simply bc there is this certain artist that makes amazing music and comforts them. Its not just in music, films, fiction, content creators etc. So i dont understand why this is such a heated topic when it comes to kpop when its completely normal. Its not being delusional its just your source of happiness.

I completely agree, imo i have said “music saved my life” as well but in reality it doesn’t really save your life completely because, with my life experiences even with music I am still sad and in a bad headspace. Yet I still listen to music, unless I really open my self to reality i wont be able to experience what i think life is. Music can make me feel happy for a certain moment but will it last for a life time? No hate to your opinion I completely understand it(to the best of my ability) 😊

The narrator isn't giving you his opinion, he's giving you the MV's opinion. Hee Soo does indeed drop the camera and choose pursuing the boy over her imaginary friends. That's what was on the MV. Then, much older Hee soo, after experiencing life, returns to her old video tapes again to briefly relive the K-pop joys of her youth.

something that gives you comfort through your lowest days and energy to keep going is absolutely something that can save your life. this guy thinks very black or white, all or nothing. anything can save a life. emo music like mcr saved my life in middle school. i'm a grown taxpaying adult now, and though i'm not someone who says kpop saved my life, i can definitely say that through my hard times, a distraction and something to look forward to might be the one thing that keeps me going enough to wake up another day. it just happens to be kpop rn.

He makes good points, but he's reaching way too much. Idfc kpop definitely saved my life, bts saved my life. I know damn well if I didn't get into bts and reflect on my own life, try to improve myself, learn to self-love, become more optimistic, be more appreciative of the things in my life....I know damn well I wouldn't be alive typing this out. Kpop can definitely save lives. Music and lyrics can save lives. Relate-ability, someone can understand where you're coming from, can save lives. Millions of kpop fans around the planet all are fighting their own demons, some have more than others. It's very ignorant to say kpop can't save a life. I mean this can get deep and triggering but that's not right. That's a very ignorant thing to say and generalize the whole kpop community like that. We're not all the same, everyone is fighting their own kind of battle.

The music videos has many theories. The theory this video presented did make sense on a basic level but it also has a lot of speculation and assumptions that may or may not be true…it’s just a theory based on opinion. There are videos on KZbin that talks about other theories, I suggest watching a few of those just to see which theory you agree with. Something that was brought to my attention was the weird Hesso and Hanni connection. The guy in this video never mentions this. Only Hesso and Hanni are wearing black in the rain scene. You see at the end of side B… a girl wearing black walking with that guy….so it was to either Hesso or Hanni…the hair matches Hanni. Hanni also appears to do opposite things the other members are doing. There are a few scenes when the rest of the group is standing in a line with their backs to the camera and Hanni is squatting down looking at the camera and winks.. then it glitches. In fact the camera glitches a lot when Hanni comes in focus on camera. Hanni was the one the other NJ members put that note on her back. Whenever the NJ members looked at the camera .. Hanni looks away. Anyway there is a KZbin video that talks about the weird Hesso/Hanni theory, it’s very interesting. Here are a few other things that I find interesting . Hanni is seen talking to a cat , the same cat in the OMG video. Who is calling Hesso in the scene where we see her crying and ignoring an incoming call? The beginning of the OMG video Hanni says “Hesso please answer the call” ….coincidence? How did Hesso get the cast? Accident? Why was it important to show the cast a lot in the video? It seems to support the lone survivor theory. Also there is Hesso social media account which supposedly is a part of the lore. It has the videos Hesso took that we see in the MV’s and also creepy empty school videos. My personal opinion is that there is a dark storyline going on and it does connect to the OMG video, but it also reflects real life kpop fans and how they relate to idols. You see many times in movies , books , shows etc…that a fictional story can have things in there to represent current real life issues etc…I think that is the case in these videos…I think there is some crazy, dark story going on and at the same time it’s representing the dark side of kpop idol culture. I may be wrong in my opinion, and I may change my theory once I learn more.

Many people like or hate K-pop. Honestly, even if who hate K-pop, it's not K-pop's fault. They just do their job. Whether it's K-pop, Hollywood, or Anime, there's always something that comforts and seduces me. Ditto and omg are connected to each other. These are essentially the paradox of relationships, the equitable contradictions, the vague philosophical questions of reality and fantasy. Funny thing is, after watching this masterpiece series, I became more addicted to them. And they'll always be somewhere, and I'll be somewhere, too. We just live with responsibility for all this reality and fantasy.

I don't think he is targeting the normal fans. But more of the immature fans. Who's life revolve around kpop, they don't communicate with real life people. They become delusional. They think their favs love as much as they do. Like no ur favs can't love you that much. They don't even know us, they are definitely great full to us but they don't love as much as a obsessed kpop stan. So ig he was saying to those people who doesn't have life outside of kpop, can't slove real life people, ignores people around them. If you don't use kpop correctly then ur life will definitely go down hill. But for some people it can improve their life. Tbh kpop gives doesn't directly save ur life, it gives u the message to be a good person and then it's up to you if you are gonna use it or not . So at the end probably ur dedication saves ur life and kpop helps u to give the dedication.

18:34, yep, and thats why i always say "the only thing that can change a life, is a person living the life", or "its only your responsibility of how to live, if you want to do better, but dont do anything, then its mostly on you", life and anything in it, can not guarantee you things to come. k-pop or any other thing in your life, can bring you happiness, because you yourself find things to enjoy, people to meet, find a new hobby, so k-pop is a starting point of being "saved by k-pop", but again, yourself is the ending point, and it really depends on what you do in the journey, and what comes of it. and in my case, k-pop for me is just a source of media and music, sure there are some members of some groups i dream of meeting, but i know that it only depends on me if i will or not, and that i cant be obsessed over them, and have a mindset of "I cant live without *name*"

Well as someone who was diagnosed clinically depressed, I think this perspective needs some addition of descriptions. For me bangtan's music was what really saved me exactly due to the fact that it always gives you a reality check. Their music, mv, dancing maybe comfort but their lyrics are literal daggers that address the thoughts that you kept denying as someone who was struggling with mental health. I think with kpop/idols or bangtan from outside view can be a someone's paradise to forget the reality. But in my case, what I listened to had lyrics that kept telling me, to stop denying my relations, to stop getting swallowed by my shadows etc. That's part the reason why kpop doesn't fully appeal to me. With that said their have been plenty of exceptions within kpop like artists or idols who addressed any issue without making it a conceptual gimic. So I personally cannot relate to this video. But I see where video op is coming from considering how the kpop norm was always to make things seem like a fairytale. But he gets so triggered and then becomes irrational with his points by devaluing people's emotions and experience. This may mean for those who are obsessive and would give their life for their idols. Who only see the fairytale or fantasies kpop purposeful feeds into.

I get the feeling the guy who created the video GREATLY over analyzes kpop videos. For someone to say don't get emotionally attached to kpop groups be it boy groups or girl groups because they "don't care" about their fans many of whom have been there since day 1. To say "kpop saved my life" is a joke disgusts me because there are people out there who were at their low points and get inspired by kpop because of what the artists were doing be it dancing, singing and what other careers they choose to pursue in life. Think about it how many dance crews around the world would love to be in kpop MV or a stage performance with an artist they listened to growing up and did cover dances of said artists songs and think about the dance choreographers who would like to meet and be the choreographer for a kpop group.

I disagree with his analogy of Ditto. He went way out in the left field with this one. To me, K-pop has been a breath of fresh air. I've talked to people that have said that a certain song spoke to them in a way that made them look at their situation and it helped them to get through it. Some of the groups have brought awareness to mental illnesses, depression, social awareness, saying no to hate of all kinds and every other issue that we all have faced in one way or another. I truly don't believe this is the true message of this song.

Personally and no offense I think you need to expand your way of thinking. I think you're a positive person and maybe you shy away from the negative connotations from k-pop because k-pop is generalized as a positive music genre but new jeans is doing this new wave of bringing some of the negative aspects of k-pop into light and i think we as a society are passed thinking that every kpop artists/famous person is having this perfect life. And i think when these artist put into perspective that their lives aren't the best it scares us but I think we need that. I think we as humans need these hard realizations that some of these artists aren't happy. It's a hard pill to swallow but so many people want this life without thinking what it truly is and how YOU can effect someone. Even if you just wanna be a youtuber you really dont how you affect people and you need to take that into consideration. Somtimes the truth hurts but I personally would personally rathe rbe honest then lie and say "you can be whatever you want to be with no consequences." NO. We need to be honest about what comes with this responsibility.
