I would note that a lot of these “cons” are pointed at the smallest/cheapest scooters. I recently got my M1 and bought an XMax 300. It weighs 100lbs more than the Adv160, which is enough that it feels more stable, even in wind (I also have an electric small scooter that is more similar to the adv160 in weight to compare to). It has 14 and 15 inch wheels which are just big enough compared to a typical 14 and 13 inch set of tires to not be quite as bad on the bumps. It can go 90mph at the top end which is fast enough to keep with traffic even on interstates. It easily has enough power to carry one passenger and still get to 70mph. It has a 45 liter underseat compartment which is… not a car trunk, but pretty spacious as a bike goes. Now that said, the XMax 300 costs $1800 more than the adv160, and $2400 more than a Zuma 125, and it doesn’t get as many mpg, so you do pay a premium for the extra size and power, and the heavier bike, while still very agile compared to a car, is just not as extremely nimble as my lighter bike. So there are different drawbacks there… You really need to know your use intentions. I have watched Wilcer’s videos and he totally made the right choice getting an adv160 over the XMax for his use case. My needs swung more towards the XMax. It’s no different than a car, where some people get a Tahoe while other people will want a Miata, and others get a Civic.

Good considerations. One thing to mention is a scooter is just a form of motorcycle, like dirt bike, cruiser, sport bike, etc... Most of you points apply to motorcycles in general (except smaller wheels). For about 10 years I was an 'extreme" long distance scooter rider, using "maxi" scooters (250cc and up) I got better weather protection than other motorcycle styles, burned less gas, had under seat storage (full size Helmet + additional things). I average 20,000 - 25,000 miles between March and October, mostly on inter state highways, for ten straight years. Get a Yamaha XMAX (Best buy of the few remaining MAXI scooter models available) and you will have a vehicle that can handle the delivery business, but also be capable of going cross country in comfort (motorcycle comfort, not car comfort). Love your videos.

The biggest 2 downsides I've encountered with scooters is wheels are too small to absorb bad ruts and pot holes, and cars constantly disrespect your right to be part of traffic. Everything else you mentioned is just part of being on 2 wheels. I've ridden motorcycles for over 35 years now, and have had several different scooters thrown in the mix - a Honda Ruckus (50cc), Genuine Blur 220i (220cc), and Piaggio MP3 (500cc). Of the three of those, the MP3 was the safest since it was considered a maxi-scooter, and had the largest wheels (14"). It could go 85mph on the interstate all day long and was the most stable with 3 wheels (2 in front, one drive). The Blur 220i was billed as the sports bike of the scooter world, and had the power and handling to prove it. But it only 12" wheels and the small frame of so many slower bikes, so cars constantly underestimated its capabilities and disrespected my right to be on the road. They constantly raced around me, or tried to force me out of my lane, making it dangerous to ride, no matter how fast I could go. The Ruckus was cute, but impractical anywhere except neighborhood back roads. I wanted one for ages because I love the form-factor, but the complete lack of practical power made me sell it within a year.

Speaking of weather I’ve been between 2 tornadoes on my Zuma last year. I just happened to be on a trip going from Dallas to Pikes Peak in Colorado. I was in Perrington Texas and the winds literally blew me off the road three times. I was super lucky because if I were 15 minutes faster, I would probably be dead. I’ve never seen telephone poles snapped in half and semis flipped upside down. I read three people died and over 100 were sent to the hospital. I ride nearly every day and I don’t see myself ever giving it up. Keep your head on a swivel and ride like everybody is out to kill you🛵💨💨💨

Great video! I do think a scooter is less safe than a car. You are trading safety for fun, cost, efficacy and maneuverability. So your at least getting something out of it. I think compared to a bicycle it *could* be safer in many cases because your bigger and easier to see, have more lights, may have ABS if your scooter comes with that, often have better gear on and will typically have auto insurance if something happens. Being on a scooter does expose you to the elements. You can augment that with gear which can help, like the wind helps a lot with its hot and good gear can keep you dry and warm when its cold. But it will never be as nice a being on the inside of a car. Two wheels really is for someone who likes being outside. High amount of wind, snow, rain, etc, the scooter will not be good at. Most scooters are not fast, that is true. I recommend at min 125CC if you in USA but a 150+ on most city streets (60mph or slower). If you want to go on the highway a lot then then 300cc+. 50CC scooters are not useless but are really limited, only use in places where going around 30mph or under is fine. I would skip 50CC in most cases. Also don't be scared of the slower speeds, everything feels faster on two wheels and I have not had any real trouble getting around a urban environment on one. You do have limited space on a scooter compared to a car. And sometimes there will be things you will never be able to take. Now compared to a motorcycle it always feels like you have a lot haha. I feel like in many cases the under the seat storage and a backpack will help with most trips. I got to the store and pick up a lot of food just using those two things. And if you need more get some kind of rear top case for your scooter or bags to hang off it. Small wheels are not great, they soak up bumps worse and wear out faster along with the things you said. There are a few pros, which is they do cost a lot less, can be easier to replace depending on the type of wheel (so good for DYI), and they turn in faster which means they can have better handling for quick turns which can help with avoiding obstacles or getting around cars in tight spots. I would not be too scared about the maintenance on a scooter. I think what people forgot is since scooters go slower it takes longer to get to the service intervals. Its also a lot easier to work on a scooter compared to cars. There is so much less stuff to worry about (like only one spark plug, no ac, power steering, stuff like that) and you need less space to do your maintenance. Like you can bring your scooter into your house or apartment to work on it. The parts also cost less and it takes a lot less oil and tire when you do replacements.

YOu hit every drawback I have found using my scoot for deliveries.. Even with backpack, there is a limit to how much one can carry.. Weather is a hassle. Cannot work if it is raining, over 90 degrees or below 50 or if the winds are dangerously high. If I hear motorcycles out and about, I know I am good to go. Scooters are mostly seasonal. this is true. Yes we are small and nearly invisible to other drivers. . Antitheft? a U-bolt lock through the front wheel works really well . You missed on having to buy certain tools, especially an electric impact wrench, if plan to wrench on it themselves.
