Also, Sheryl Bradshaw didn't go on the date. She called the show's producer and said, "the guy has really weird vibes coming off him. He's really creepy. I don't want to see him again. Will that be a problem?" It wasn't. After that, she moved from CA, had a family and lived a quiet life. I'm glad she trusted her instincts. ❤

@sandyjamison5929 I know all of us including Sheryl are very glad that she trusted her intuition . Not A lot of victim's in this murderer's back ground of other's have paid such attention . We generally do not want to think of someone at first hand as someone who is going to cause us or anyone trouble . If you get a chance to watch "Woman Of The Hour" by Anna Kendrick at het first time at directing I recommend it if you have an interest in true crime dramas . In the Netflix documentary drama about Rodney titled " Woman Of The Hour" there is a for me a pretty highly developed question by a female cast member of The Dating Game that gives Sheryl a really important question to not ask the men but to ask herself after asking all the men questions and that is think to yourself "Which one of you will hurt me?" I found that to be a pretty enlightened question to tell another woman to ask herself for the 70's . I thought your comment was very thoughtful

My first husband was exactly like Rodney Alcala. I had left him after he had physically assaulted me when we were dating. I went back to an old boyfriend and was trying to move on with my life. He called me one night begging to talk to me. Unfortunately, I decided to go. He cried actual tears swearing that he loved me and would NEVER hurt me again. I was 20 years old and I had never seen a man cry before. Needless to say, it was all a lie. He would have won an Academy Award for his performance. As soon as we got married, he became a monster. Fortunately, I was able to get away from him before he could kill me. I'm a very skeptical person because of what he put me through. STAY SAFE LADIES!!! There are monsters in human form out there!!!!

@@Somebody9666 No, men like this hide it just as well as those women you spoke of... The term "Prince Charming" comes to mind, men can be incredibly charming and charismatic, as we see throughout society that has favoritism towards men. "He's a hero. He's the head and leader. He's so cool!. I'm a daddy's girl/boy." Et cetera, et cetera. Men know how to turn on the charm to lure women especially, hence all the countless domestic vi-o-le-nce cases being overwhelmingly men that are violent towards women/and or kills them. Sure, many women are also like this, but the statistics are overwhelmingly men being violent and aggressive much more so than women. I know many men don't report their women, but the same can be said for many women who don't report their men either, and still the stats are overwhelming towards one side being much worse than the other, whether you'll ever admit it or not.

I appreciate your videos so much. I’m autistic, so nonverbal body language used to be a major mystery to me and I could only pick up on certain select things. Channels like yours have helped me understand a lot. You have also helped me understand a lot of gut feelings that Ive had in the past that often felt like I was overreacting out of anxiety, and it has been very validating. I don’t take it as a hard and fast rule, but it does help guide me. Tone is FAR harder for me, so I do end up relying a ton on nonverbals. I don’t know about that show, but there have been a LOT of game show contestants that have gone on to kill or later found to be a SK. recently, off the top of my head, we have Lori Vallow (arguably a SK) on wheel of fortune, Sarah Boone (then Paulsen) on a kids show, there was a contestant on a baking show (they nixed all episodes that she was in.) there was one on a semi-current dating type show. John Cooper was on a darts tv show called Bullseye (uk show) Edward Wayne Edward’s on to tell the truth in the 70s, he’s a multi. Paul curry was on Jeopardy, a while later he was sentenced to life in 2014. I think it comes down to a personality type that is often attracted to being on show. Narcissistic.

I think that our autism can give us an advantage in deciphering nonverbal cues. We have to learn them from the ground up instead of relying on intuition. We keep analysing the actions of others in order to understand and communicate effectively. A neurotypical person doesn’t need these skills in every day life. They don’t have to hone them. Just like my English grammar is sometimes better than that of a native speaker in the United States, my deciphering of nonverbal cues can be more grounded in fact than that of a native reader.
@rachelann936219 сағат бұрын
@@HumanimalChannel now that I thought about your point more, you may be on to something. I wasn’t diagnosed until this year at 39. I will say that gut feeling and trusting myself wasn’t allowed for most of childhood and teenage years. Honestly I got those ICK feelings from my parents, not because of physical abuse or anything like that-they were both emotionally unable, with my dad being completely detached until he died, my mom turned everything into her. I didn’t even learn to say NO until I was in my late 20s. I’m working on being OK with saying no. Long story short, it’s been hard connecting to my gut feeling. It’s coming back, but I’ve spent most of life distrusting it and rationalizing it away because of other people saying it was ok. There’s a lot that I never learned to go past good vs bad feeling, These videos have been making me go “ooooh so I was right!” about situations in the past. I may not know what all the facial expressions mean, but I’m really good at picking out changes from their baseline.
@rachelann936219 сағат бұрын
@@RealPumpkinJay I wrote more in the comment above to the other commenter. I do think you’re right. I just never spent much time putting names into it, and I’ve been disconnected from my gut feeling for most of my life. The main issue I have is that I get stuck at good vs bad vs neutral and usually can’t place it beyond that, but it’s been getting easier. When I was younger, I would find myself feeling a certain emotion when interacting with a person without any trigger for me to feel that way. I’ve come to the realization that this was likely me mirroring and being pulled into the feeling despite it having nothing to do with myself. Then people would ask me why I feel . Unlike many other autistics, I don’t really have a lot of control with my faces. If I’m not thinking about my expressions explicitly, then it’s going to change based on random thoughts, sensory, intrusive thoughts, other things I’m hearing or noticing nearby, etc, then people end up thinking I’m mad or annoyed with them. Dang it. Another long post. ADHD meds aren’t working so good today. Don’t think I got enough sleep
@karenholmes656512 сағат бұрын
I am autistic too. I have less trouble than lots of autistic people at picking up nonverbal cues, but I suspect that autistic people would not present the same nonverbal cues as neurotypicals because we process emotions differently. It can take us longer to get a joke, or to laugh, etc. This is why we can give off uncanny valley vibes.

Towards the end she stops following the script she was given. 10yrs ago I had a monthly appt at the same time as some man. I never knew his name, never spoke to him, he never did anything mean or ruse that I saw. But I was so uncomfortable around him. I could never turn my back on him, I wanted to run out of the room as soon as he walked in, and it happened every single time. After 6 months I had to change my schedule because of him. I may be completely crazy and he was the sweetest man ever, but if you told me he kept women that looked like his mom chained in the basement I wouldn’t be surprised…..

The Dating Game started in 1965, when I was a freshman in high school. I did watch it sometimes then, can’t remember exactly what I thought about it except that I do remember wondering if a “prize” date, a chaperoned trip to Catalina Island would be actual fun or just work. By 1978 the concept was extremely tired, they had been doing the same stupid sexual innuendos for years, and the show was basically just low budget filler, along with The Newlywed Game and a plethora of other repetitive game shows.

So as a 70s genx little kid let me tell you a little about the absolute h*rney s@x fiends some of our parents were. The 70s was a huge revolution for s@× with the pill being widely available and women being able to be single/divorced if they chose. But there were multiple shows like this, the newlywed game, a series called love american style and prawn yes that word you're thinking of.. prawn being played at actual movie theaters right next to jaws/star wars, oh and key parties if you know you know. I was so icked out as a little kid lol. It's crazy to explain if you weren't there any other elders to add to my list?

I thought the same thing. Born Dec 73. Pretty much was left unattended every day all I had was TV and radio. As an adult, I watch some of those shows or movies again, and I cringe.

We in UK had 'blind date' same format as this show, which didn't end until 2003. The cringe factor was part of the fun but I imagine the cringe factor was its downfall with the rise of political correctness. More recently we have had 'take me out' (catchphrase 'no likey, no lightey') - think tinder on a stage and naked attraction where you get to see the contestants body parts before face or voice. Sign of the times

There were apparently three revivals of this show in the States and the last revival there didn’t end till 1999 so almost as long! I remember watching both as I was a kid in Canada and then the UK one when I moved back as an adult. I don’t remember the UK one being quite as bad as this.

Was it really worth it for them to go all cringe to win tennis lessons?

I'm of the vintage that I've seen the Dating Game as a show on one of the three channels available. It was on in the mornings, not prime time. Even as a teen, I couldn't understand why people would go on that show, it was that cringy. Now, I understand that it's viewing demographic was horny housewives and dumb teens with little concept of life works. And there are a number of A List celebrities who went on the show, hoping to get noticed, which I presume was their other demographic. I know the show wasn't popular with the people I hung out with.

I watched the Dating Game occasionally more in the early 70s when I was a pre-teen. But it was always a campy, cringe-worthy show even back then. And it has not aged well at all.

Just saying this is just a mini version of Love is Blind isn't it. It's obviously not as long a time period but they are also just going on a date not marrying. I would argue if they didn't have to also be entertaining to an audience who can see them it would be less cringe. Love is Blind least has the illusion of being alone. Well I suppose they were alone because it's not a live feed.

The Dating Game wasn't special in its cringe sexual content. There was also the Newlywed Game for more of that. I was like 5 when I first heard the term "making whoopie". In the 80s movies like 16 Candles received a PG rating and it was common for children to drink. It was a helluva time.

Dating shows are just as cringe today, they just have a diff presentation. But these guys were especially bad at it. No wonder she ended up picking him.
