How to know which verb uses akkusativ and which ones go with dativ. For instance, Horst du mich ? but not Horst do mir? . Hilfst du mir ? but not Hilfst du mich?

If you could ( not must) use a verb with two objects, you' ll have the direct obj. in Accusative and the indirect in Dative. I believe you( indir.) this strory( dir.) = Ich glaube dir ( Dat.) diese Geschichte (Acc.) I believe you = Ich glaube DIR. I answer you (indir.) this question ( dir.) = Ich (be)antworte dir ( Dat.) diese Frage ( Acc.) I answer you = Ich antworte DIR ( note : "beantworten" is used with two objects or direct obj., "antworten" with one indirect object or none) Some verbs with Dative like "helfen" don't have two objects.
