The worst thing about this situation, is that it isn't a surprise. No one was truly shocked by it, and it was only a matter of time before a Referee was caught saying something they shouldn't. It says more about the FA and PGMOL, and how above the Law they perceive themselves, than it does Cootes himself. There's a reason this video has surfaced and that might tell a story that Football, and its fans, don't want to hear.

You know, as a referee, even if I dislike the manager of a club, that's not a reason to make decisions against that team. With the Virgil van Dijk incident for example, van Dijk could have been seriously insured and he has absolutely nothing to do with his manager, so I'd give that red card either way. Not giving it, just because because I dislike someone from one team is just wild.

12:19 I don't think there's necessarily corruption all refs in the prem and EFL are terrible and make a load of errors. I remember during the Euros, no one really had a complaint about a ref until the English refs took charge of the games

Honestly painful too, because Czechia (not even remotely for them) probably got the robbery of the century. Where the ref just started handing out yellow cards and disallowed a goal because OPPOSITION players made one or two handballs in the buildup. English referees just get alot more focus, but yeah doesn't mean there aren't massive errors in the other leagues either.

Coote was VAR for Pickford clattering Van Dijk. That was the very next game after he made the video and next PL game after the Burnley game he references. Also in that same Everton game, he drew dodgy lines to incorrectly show Mane as offside, when Mane was clearly onside to deny a last minute winner for Henderson. One decision that still pisses me off to this day as much as it did when I saw it live.
