I wore out this record in the 70's when I was in high school.

Totally agree, but just to clarify, Swing 51 was written by Tony Rice.

So beautiful. The slower tempo here is such an improvement over Tony Rice hauling ass through it. Although Tony wrote it, so there's that...

I was invited to a David Grisman show at the Mexicali Blues Cafe in New Jersey by David’s manager. I was given a feee ticket and invited backstage to meet David. We were talking and he asked me if there was a song that I’d like to hear them play that night. I was kinda caught off guard. He started naming a few songs. “How about Dawgs Bull, or Swing 42?” he asked me. I said, how about Swing 51? He just gave me a dirty look and walked away. A few minutes later one of his people, some woman, walks over to me and asked me to leave. It was really embarrassing because I was in the middle of a conversation with some other people when she interjected, and asked me to leave. I was really disappointed. I’ve been a huge fan of Grisman for decades, and been to lots of his shows, and have so many of his CDs and stuff, but I never went back to another show or bought another CD ever again. I saw the underbelly of the Dawg that night.

Why did he react that way, do you think ? Because he didn't write it ?
