I remember this day! My Dad did business with Junior Johnson who I was able to secure Juniors pardon that he applied for under Jimmy Carter! I worked as a Fed in Detroit and got his pardon going again! I was at this race with Dad and had already knew President Reagan! It was quite a day! As a young man I was smitten with Sharon Petty! Every time I got near her my heart would race! Lol

If Cale had won, it would not have been the same for Nascar or Reagan! Between Ned Jarrett doing the interview and Reagan and Petty hanging out like old friends, it vaulted all involved!

I was never a big Regan fan back in that era, but one of the comments about him in the video was dead on - "it was his job to make those around him comfortable". The man had decorum and a calm presence.

The small dirt track after the tri-oval was actually the old Greyhound Dog track. When racing dogs was allowed in Florida. Now it is gone and replaced as Lot 1 parking at Daytona.

Too bad ABC broadcast the race. They played it during Wide World of Sports so they didn’t show the whole race, only segments of it. Besides the fact that the announcers covering the race were horrible mostly. Haven’t been able to find any footage of the complete race.

@MichaelEarnedIt-19
@MichaelEarnedIt-19 2 жыл бұрын
You don’t get to decide when a driver retires. A driver should say when he retires. So what if they’re not competitive if they still want to drive let em’ drive till they can’t no more. You live your own life let athletes and artists live their own. No one but the person themselves should be in charge of when they retire.

NASCAR isn’t racist. If racist is your excuse why you don’t like something then that just shows to you how weak and pathetic you are. You claim to be tolerant yet when something you don’t like isn’t exactly the way you want it that is tolerant? The irony their. I think we found us another one of those people responsible for our country’s down.
