I'm not sure if they think that much to begin with. Afaik one of the reasons TDB was as lackluster as it was is because those two brothers constantly kept shifting goals and generally creating a messy and toxic work environment. They seem to have somewhat genuine intentions but are absolutely terrible at their jobs. They should let someone else lead their company and clean the toilets instead or something. I actually believe something similar applies to Shane Isaac and E2. These CEOs seem to truly believe they are doing something good and genuine - and if they fail then only we or the people they work with are to be blamed. It's pretty basic, when you actually think about it... Of course people are going to be more receptive of something if it seems familiar to them & it was something that they liked... Which is why Slavetastic made their scam of a game, "The Day Before" aka "The Scam Before", which used MANY, almost IDENTICAL, cover art copies of other games, like "Tom Clancy's: The Division" & Naughty Dogs "The Last Of Us" because they wanted to benefit from our brain, subconsciously, resonating the game as good because we enjoyed the other games that looked like it.*

Not going to lie, but I loved following when they were "developing" TDB. Imo it was better than most series you can watch on netflix. The weekly twist were amazing and often too good to be true. When that all stopped I was a bit sad. But!!! They are back for Season 2.0!!! Love it, you can't make up such a storyline if yoy tried. But somehow they do. Netflix, Disney, Amazon are you watching? I feel like a lot of stuff like this game is just rich people throwing money at the wall saying they want something and just not understanding what actually goes into it. its almost like they just rented a place hired some people, and just said "make a le epic game, make it like a zombie apocalypse and its like, cool and stuff" thus this was born. ive worked for rich people like this myself, people who were handed down wealth and a business and whatnot.

The CEOs allegedly gave out directives such as "do it like they [= all the popular Western devs] do". But blaming "rich" is debatable. I don't know what funds they had but since they had plenty of volunteers maybe they weren't running on that much. Game development sort of inherently is a costly thing. Seems a bit too simple to blame "rich". It's not like one-man-devs who work on their projects in their free time never fail. Perhaps with some other CEOs and better direction TDB wouldn't have failed so spectacularily. There obviously is interest there for the broad concept otherwise the game probably wouldn't have been wishlisted so much. But those two brothers leading Fntastic fumbled their chance. And that could have been mere incompetence, no "rich" needed.

The thing about being incentivized to lowball Kickstarter goals is pretty much by design, since it means people will be more likely to go back for multiple rounds and KS can take a cut from each of them, which adds up more in the long run. Though that also incentivizes scummy behavior, as it teaches people like Fntastic that small goals are probably going to go through, and they can make excuses to keep coming back with false promises and other nonsense.
