The jumping height is increased to what CSGO 128 tick was (~55.82). Which makes it funny, since Valve made jumpthrow consistent regardless of tickrate by removing every server owner's ability to change it to something other than 64 (which made the statement technically true), then somehow managed to make that statement false even on the same tickrate. Also, the inconsistency in jump height has more to do with: 1. How Valve implement subtick jumping, which is exclusive to CS2, and it's the loss of this precision that causes jump height to vary up to a whole unit depending on the map uptime. Fixing a 0.03125 innate inconsistency is an order of magnitude less significant. You can tell how it was very much not an issue in CSGO because while it exists, no KZ player ever complained about their jump heights being this inconsistent throughout thousands of maps, while the whole game mode is about jumping up things. 2. The physics engine itself. Putting vertical positions only in steps of 0.015625 absolutely destroys surfing because the physics engine really really doesn't like these numbers for some reason. Every bug where you instantly lose all of your momentum is also an physics issue, not a direct subtick issue. It's only related to subtick in the sense that the subtick system makes it unfeasible for a random person to replicate the bug, since you would need the exact subtick timing to reproduce it which is not possible. They made a lot of changes in the game logic for movement; but regardless of what they do, if the physics side isn't fixed, the collision problem will never go away. However, every time they touched the physics engine since the update in 06-2023, with the exception of the one you shown at 0:45 (which took some guy dying on anubis in a major for valve to even pay attention to), it has turned out for the worse, so honestly I don't even know what I want anymore.

As nice as it is for Valve to address a common grievance, I think it breaking Surf and allowing players to take One Giant Leap For Mankind is a good argument for them to have an actual beta branch for fundamental tweaks like this, even if the hotfixes come soon after. Better to let the testers find the bugs instead of the entire playerbase.

i do know of it actually, i just didn't know it was called "stamina", it existed all the way back in 1.6. your jump height and movement speed is heavily affected once you were shot, i'll admit i died to it plenty of times myself and as far as i'm aware there isn't a time limit for staminas in 1.6, it's only effecting your movement when you're being shot at. (at least that's what i know from completing 5 playthroughs of Condition Zero and hours of playtime in 1.6)

In CS:GO, people did the same thing with silent jumps, too. History just repeats itself. I kind of expected the Armory update to be the actual Arms Deals 2 update that ports the skins to Source 2(still uses the CS:GO models) but it seems that they've added skins that are similar to the ones in the CS:GO Weapon Case. Maybe there will be an update that changes weapon firing sounds and some shit. I kind of want the M4A4 to change its firing sound, now that the Glock-18 and Galil got the treatment.

Valve could make jump precision significantly more consistent if they used a fixed-point coordinate system that would be subsequently converted to floating point. There would still be floating point error, mind, but a specific height value in the fixed point system would always correspond to the same height value in float. The primary precision gain here is avoiding floating point error accumulation by doing all accumulation in fixed point math. Also keep in mind that this would only need to be done for highly important things on the client. Other players could retain a floating point representation when networked.

In some of my own work I have actually used a similar method to make first person mouse input completely avoid floating point error accumulation. My method in this case had the player input a desired CM/360, and their DPI, then would calculate the number of counts per 360, rounding up to the nearest odd whole number as the base. This made it so that the player could look exactly in each cardinal, and each mouse input would move exactly the same distance, within the smallest attainable floating point error. I implemented it this way because after some testing with more normal methods, I realized that mouse input accumulates floating point error insanely fast- and in most circumstances, a 360 would not be a consistent number of mouse counts.

Maybe I’m insane but the source engine has velocity and I assumed they used model weight (player weight value) and forced velocity up and the engine even has friction so certain surfaces can contain friction which is very big issue in older games like the hidden or old Gmod. Though the new jump float thing is obviously has to do with the freeze at the end of the game or half. I find this all so interesting

I am making a movement system for my game, and I get paranoia from the amount of times "calculate result, then add 0.05 to it" occurs in my code. I am trying to push back on that, but some of it might be due to imprecision in the physics engine itself. It makes me uncomfortable making something with floating point numbers, because I find it hard to reason about the amounting imprecision.
