Jordan's defensive play at 11:03 is an another example of why he's the greatest. Even if his offense isn't working, he always reading the floor and looking for weaknesses he can exploit to get the team over the finish line. Calling for Kerr to shoot the 1997 finals-winning jumper after he pulled away the defense is another perfect example. This is why Kobe learned to respect Mike so much. Individual skill is great for stats and highlights but becoming an era-defining champion requires a drive and understanding of the game that few have possessed. It's why someone like Westbrook could average a triple double across multiple seasons yet collapse when everything was on the line. Lastly, I assure you Rodman had no intention of fighting Shaq. He was the master of getting into player's heads and one of the few capable of shutting down the big man despite the obvious size mismatch. This team was hitting on all fronts.

I once heard that the Chicago Bulls in the 90s did not have a losing record against any team. Add the fact that the 93 run was the only championship season where they didn’t win 60+ games… that is just incredible dominance.

@@Serching4JerryGarcia The Bulls absolutely had a stranglehold on the league despite all the talent (Hakeem's Rockets, Shaq and Penny, the Jazz, Sonics, Knicks, etc). It’s hard to say. MJ was strategic and efficient with his shot selection. Kobe would shoot from anywhere for no reason other than he believes he could make it. And he did make a lot of amazing tough shots because he attempted a lot more of them than MJ did. If Kobe was more selective with his shot and MJ was more gunslinger from anywhere maybe it would be closer. But for me, I will go with MJ. For his position, MJ is the second most efficient SG in NBA history. The guy ahead of him wasn’t a high volume shooter. To shoot as much as he did for his position and be basically at 50% for his career is crazy.

I remember watching this game live when I was a kid. I watched every game. I always got frustrated because the Bulls have never had a good center in an era dominated by centers in the low post, with Shaq being the best. But I was also even more frustrated that Jordan would make all these crazy shots, just in front of the 3 point line, even with a foot over. And I was always thinking, why doesn't he move back a few steps and make it?? But when Jordan felt it, he felt it. . . And that was before the emphasis on the era of always shooting 3 point shots. He was AIR JORDAN in his 20s and the man who defied gravity. But in his 30s, his competitiveness and agressive nature made him become the greatest clutch shooter in history. Who invented the turnaround fadeaway. Other players copied it also, like Kobe. Or Dirk Nowitzski, with a similar shot only putting his knee out towards the defender to add extra room on the shot. But still, no one has ever been able to do his fadeaway better. 💯💯💯

You are smoked out. Eddie jones was starting and Kobe coming off the bench like you said an 18 yr old fresh out of high school. The bulls were defending champions in the middle of a second three peat. The Lakers wouldn’t go anywhere until they learned to play great team ball on offense and defense and that wouldn’t happen with del Harris. It wouldn’t happen until Phil arrived. Winning this game would have changed nothing. They were a collection of talent, not a great contender at the time. Derek fisher was also a rookie getting low minutes. Van exel was starting. Jordan himself had to wait for legends to get old before he started winning and this team was in its infancy. Jordan was the greatest but don’t twist history you obviously have no idea about. The Lakers weren’t challenging anyone yet. They were a newly formed threat. Jordan was still at peak form with a 72 win 3peat dynasty

I never played with MJ (obviously) but I did play with a veteran baller who had international experience and who represented his country (NZ) for over a decade. The guy was in his late 40s at the time. He had the same never say die attitude and refused to stop fighting, even in games were behind by 20+ points in and we were in a YMCA style league. His advice in timeouts was to just chip away and not give up. He had an unshakable confidence he could win any game and it was infectious. That player was Byron Vaetoe. 'At 1.97 metres, with big mitts, silky skills, bundles of athleticism and a killer shot, he was one of the great Kiwi basketballers of his generation'. (Marc Hinton)

One of the Only Benefits of living as long as I have Been Blessed to Live, in good health,(74 in 2 Months) is that I was around to see Russell, Frasier, Kareem(When he was still "Lew Alcindor), Pistol Pete, and later The Bird, Magic, and Jordan Eras, along with their Team Mates and the Accompanying Rivals, and other "Star Ballers" Like Isaiah(Zeke) Thomas, Dennis Rodman, Allen Iverson, Reggie Miller, Shaq, and Of Course The Great "Black Mamba", Kobe Bryant.(I'd also be Remiss if I didn't mention the much more current, and at present, The Reigning Queen Of Women's Basket Ball, Caitlin Clark, because like the others I've mentioned, Caitlin is a Massive B-Ball Talent, and just a Pleasure to watch "Do What She Do") No matter what Basketball is going to become in the future, I'll always maintain that I was Blessed to Witness It When It was at the Highest Level Of Play. I consider videos of these players, Most Especially Jordan, like I do Clint Eastwood and John Wayne Westerns along with a Very Few others(Robert Duvall). For This Old Goat Roper, that is Entertainment of the Highest and Most Enjoyable Order. Whenever the woes of the current world's Nonsense seem to hang, like a Black Cloud, Over Everything, I can pull one or the other of them up and Escape It All, if only for a couple of Hours, then I come back to current day reality, rested and refreshed enough to Get After It Again. Maybe an odd comparison, since the Westerns I love are total Fantasy, and the High Flying Gymnastics of Jordan were in fact Very Very Real, but Both have the ability to entertain as well as reinvigorate, and prepare me to, once more, face the Blazing Dumpster, & Rolling Crap Show that occupies so much of Today's world.

Thanks for the kind words. I just happened to be born at the right time to see some really good and some really Bad stuff happen, and a whole lot of Monumental Changes take place. I was born in 1950 on a South Georgia Dirt Farm, when Jim Crow Was Alive and Well. I didn't have to read about that Shit. I lived around it. Even as a Whiter than White Child, I knew right away, as soon as I became able to reason that the evil stuff that was going on could not possibly be anything but wrong, and Thankfully got to see it all change for the better. I saw Elvis when he first became popular, Muhammed Ali when he fought as Cassius Clay. Served in the navy during Vietnam, became a Rodeo Cowboy, Horse Trainer, Saddle Bum and Bronc Stomper, and made my living at that for well over a decade. Men walk on the Moon, Kennedy's Assassination, along with MLK, Bobby and Malcom Shot down. Always loved basketball, and saw the almost Immediate Improvement when it was desegregated, and then the Stars started to shine. I gave it up when Jordan Retired. Saw Secretariat Revolutionize the Standard for a Great race Horse. Color TVs were something for this Farm Boy to see. All sorts of wonderful and some really Terrible stuff happen, but everything Changed and changed again. Now at almost 74 I look back and am amazed at all the changes, Good and Bad that I was privileged to witness in real time. My Grandfather was born during The Civil War, and my father told me about the time he saw his first Train, and it scared him to death with all the noise, smoke and steam. He said all the Dogs, and half the Horses and Mules Left and he wanted to go with them........ I have to say it has been one hell Of A Ride, and given the chance I'd probably do the exact same thing all over again. Now you know much more about me than you ever wanted to, but that's what happens when an Old fart like me, gets on a Roll

Those 1996 through 1999 LA Lakers teams were fun to watch. It was a shame that head coach Del Harris didn't know how to manage such a collection of talent. During that period, the players with experience would get the nod to start. I always felt that if someone in that LA Lakers organization had the stones to make the gutsiest decision, it would have been to start a young raw Kobe Bryant instead of Eddie Jones. I know Phil Jackson fixed those things after the Del Harris run. I felt bad when Kurt Rambis was the interim coach. The team appeared to have completely tuned him out many times. Regardless, I still liked coach Rambis despite the overwhelming problems he inherited. Despite that roster not getting to the Finals, I still liked Nick Van Excel, Eddie Jones and Elden Campbell. And of course, most of all, Shaq & Kobe together.

Jordan was NEVER different, definitely different than others, but he never changed or was different in how he played. He always was the most competitive person in any room. The 95/96 season this video is talking about. They went 72 wins. But the 96/97 season you are talking about they went 69 only because every one around him. And Scottie frustrated with his contract. The Jordan flu game, they were in the finals. He had a temp of 104 degrees. He was dying on the bench and could barely walk. But he still made 38 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and hit the game winning 3. . . Then had to be carried off the court by Scottie. LOL. . . That man was INHUMAN. You had to shoot him, stab him, anything you could to keep him from winning. And still he'd probably show up on the court in a wheel chair and school everybody. LOL😂 Nowadays, people sit out if they have a sprained finger. LMAO😂😢

It just so happened that Mike was better at basketball than he ever was at gambling. Or baseball. Dude was working with a dangerous ego. With dangerous people. Couldn't exactly just whack Mike at that time. His arrogance got his dad killed. Sociopaths don't really ever admit guilt. Think he's not guilty? He had kids making sneakers, in a sweatshop environment. For 25 cents a day. 14 hours a day. It apparently didn't faze him as much as it should've. The only concern was? Getting caught. Never mind the exploitation. Or kidnapping. I haven't seen an MJ/Gatorade commercial lately. Brands are cutting ties quick. Imagine if he's somehow innocent...

GOAT! Lebron don’t need more rings. Jordan was way quicker off the dribble, better inside the three line, more skilled ball handler, and the better defensive player. Even in the three, his weakest area, he is 1% or less away from Lebron’s stat. Add to that the fact he was a better decision maker, more competitive, and the epitome of clutch. No one took the ball away from his hands in that last minute; there was no cop out in his mind; he controlled the Bulls’ fate on his own. He lived for those moments and thrived like no other player I have ever seen. All the white boys be like: I want to be like Mike!!!, and singing “I believe I can fly”. White girls where all quite but their memorized eyes reminded me of the first coming of the Beatles or Elvis. Ssshhhh, don’t say it too loud. Meanwhile in the rest of the world, where Black-White relationships were more normalized, they were chasing after him. This generation has no idea how big Jordan was world wide even in soccer dominated countries. He had to sneak out of places to get away from the crowds. Who can forget the Spain Olympics, crowds chasing after the bus, and waiting outside the hotel to get a glance of him. Players in the opposite team taking their cameras out DURING the games to take snapshots of JORDAN!!! You guys really missed the GOAT era. I was insane that’s all I can say.

Factor Here is Coaching, Phil Jackson VS. Del Harris? Not even in the same Level. PHIL IS THE GOAT COACH COZ WHEN HE HANDLED THE LAKERS AFTER MJ, THEY BECAME THE DOMINANT TEAM THAT THEY DESERVE TO BE. It was Phil who made the Difference, Phil & Tex Winters.

Each of those 6 Rings was won with all the Bulls' great championship opponents didn't survive to Game 7 of the Championship Finals. - No other team since the birth of the NBA has ever achieved that. - there will be no other team that is ever gonna achieve it in the next 100 years.

@lopsii902 He'd still be chasing Jordan. Plus, out of Kobes mouth "You wouldn't have Kobe without Mj".. What kind of player is Kobe without the example Jordan set? Think before you speak. You're putting Kobe in an Era without the example of MJ to follow. He's a different player. He BUILT his entire game on Mike's game.

i agree that without mj we would see a bit different kobe. That is why i have mj as 1a and kobe 1b in my list. The 90's were easier for a player like them to dominate. The 00's had better teams and the rules and style of play didn't help scorers that much. Kobe would be as dominant in mj's era in my opinion. @@Tyrannosaurus_STFU_III

Saying that this game in 96 was Jordan was destroying Shaq and kobe is a complete misnomer and lie. Del harris would not start kobe. He barely gave him playing time during his three years coaching the mamba. M j was killing nick the quick and eddie jones. Come on man know your ball

The difference between MJ and Lebron comes down to this. Before game 6 in 1998 Final against Utah, I remember talking to my buddies - somebody said, “the Bulls are winning tonight. Jordan will score 70, if that’s what it takes. He’s not losing tonight.” And we all knew the guy was right. (MJ scored 45, adding that insane sequence in the last minute). There was this sense of inevitability about MJ. You just knew he was always going to find a way to win. And it felt like the opposing teams knew it too. Lebron is the 2nd-best player ever. But he had never come close to instilling this sense of fear in opposing teams.

I think people who even bring up Lebron compared to MJ are stat nerds only. Guys who really don't understand the game, and why someone like MJ won so many rings despite not creating a fake super super team like Lebron did with Dwayne Wade. The number 1 and no 2 coming together with an all star support cast, and they still didnt' get it done as dominantly as Jordan did with nothing but drafted players besides maybe Rodman. Larry Bird once said in an interview that the difference between scoring 10 points a game vs 15 points a game is huge financially for players. Which is why many often as not make the play that rewards their stats, rather then looking for the team play. Lebron never left that mentality, which is why he formed super teams, and cheated the game anyway he could to pad his stats, etc. Even the refs are helping the Lakers win games with regular insane differences in foul shots calls of 25 to 1 in the last quarter, always favoring LA, never funny enough does it happen the other way around. And wether this is because the bookings can't have a much lower seed team and much lower stat players wise win too many blow out games against a supposedly better all star team like the Lakers. Or wether it is the league trying to protect their franchise team and players, to ensure big money teams like LA continue to be hugely profitable. It hardly matters if it is one or the other the stats don't like, it's real regardless and it benefits Lebron's stats immensely. So does the fact that he now only get uncontested rebounds, and easy layups all night without having to do any of the work for it. And any many his size is not going to have trouble making uncontested layups for stats. Yet people think because he has the most points ever that suddenly this makes him better than MJ? In what universe does his individual stats matter when he has arguable had far easier runs, and had far worse results with those teams. He gives up constantly as soon as he has a bad finals games he checks out for the entire rest of the season, as his team mates have stated, and was not if anything abundently obvious already. Meanwhile MJ took his team of drafts and elevated their play, found the way he needed to play each and every night to win, if he wasn't having a great night shooting, he found ways to free up his team mates, as in this game. If his team absolutely needed that kutch shot, he was the man who got it done over and over again. it was that 'dawg' in MJ that elevated his game. Lebron is still that dude who is trying to pad his stats from 10-15 pts to get more $$$. MJ transcended that earlly in his career, and despite people calling him a 'ball hog' or whatever, he played a team game, a system defined for him to be that dawg who got 50+ point games, etc, but then also use that other nights to find open players as he drew the defense into him. That system worked, and later he was able to play other systems as needed in whatever role was required of him. And MJ's defense was real, he wasn't grabbing uncontested rebounds to pad his stats, his players often grabbed the uncontested rebounds, where MJ would be instead lining up to get the pass. Lebron team members could literally have the ball bounce right to them, and then will side step it just to give Lebron that rebound. That's the difference between a play how was the GOAT, and played for the team, vs Lebron, who isn't the goat, and plays to get every point he can for himself, even at the expense of the team. Which is why the LA Lakers without Lebron do better then with him, regardless of his stats this year, if anything should prove why he is not the GOAT, that should make it even clear to guys who only look at stats. Why if Lebron is so good, is he still putting up great stats, yet his team losing more with him, then without him, and get this, Lebron's angle only flairs up with the best teams. So if you look at who the rest of his team wins againt, without Lebron, they are facing all the best teams as well. To just drive the point home. MJ is the man, and it the players who count, the other legends who all say it. Except MJ himself who said that he believed Larry Bird was the greatest ever. But then Larry believed that Russell was maybe the GOAT because of the Celtic legacy of so many rings all given to a franchise because of one mane, Bill Russell, and so Larry looked up to Russell, and MJ looked up to Bird, and everyone looked up to MJ since...
