I’ve heard of the “Year of 3 Popes” back on 1978.

I can actually remember that year. I went to Rome in September and saw JPI at his public audience on Sept 27. I learned of his death when I was in Paris on the way home. I then went to Rome again the following June, and saw JPII several times and attended his open air Mass on the Solemnity of St Peter and St Paul.
