England had numerical disadvantage for 75mins & 60mins respectively against 2 of the biggest cheats in the game Argentina (98) & Portugal (06) and still comfortably took both games to pens. Both nations lost in the next round as they were probably knackered out. Both nations SolCampbell scored winners against but ref bottled it although vs Portugal it was in Euro2004 not WC06. You can fail to win a game with numerical advantage for up to about 20mins and batter the team with 10 and do everything but score and be the better team but just unlucky (especially if the team with 10 took their lead before the red). But if the score is level with 60mins-75mins remaining when a team get a red, if the disadvantaged team make it to pens they are the better team even taking away SolCampbell disallowed goals etc...I mean the Argentina game England were massively disappointed to be drawing at half-time they could've been 3-1 up instead but they at least expected 2-1. So despite that disappointment followed by the red with 75mins left and play better & not lose, you have to be better in general. Argentina didn't technically score from open play in the entire match either. Not really surprising England knocked them out in the next WC and also beat them in another match a few years later.
