Context as to what they mean by 165 million years: Dinosaurs first appeared in the Triassic around 250 million years ago, so they meant from when they first evolved to when they went extinct.

Yeah, when we hear "dinosaurs" and "66 million years ago" together, it can be hard at first to register that the 66 million years is only how long they've been *gone for* and it's not even half the amount of time they were around before that point.

The only reason mammals and thus humans survived is because our shrew like mammal ancestor was able to burrow underground and feed on bugs.

Many dinos survived the impact but probably starved after not being able to find food. Some did survive to this day though, like birds which are direct descendants.

I’ve always been fascinated by extinction events like this. Imagine being present and watching the entire world basically catch fire and freeze at the same time. This impact event would have been on par with nuclear war in terms of damage.

some dinosaurs did survive they just couldnt take over again. And also the different continents have dinosaurs because the dinosaurs where around when pangea split up
