Efren grew up pool hustling for fun (not because they were poor, I read somewhere their family was not that rich, just well off to get through the day), betting and playing against older people who would always talk trash to distract or him to prevent him from winning, but most failed Probably the only reason Strickland sometimes gets into Reyes’s head is because the former is talking trash in English, a language Reyes is not used to hearing Had it been Tagalog or Kapampangan language he’ll just laugh it off and win

Goat - - - I played Efren in 2017; the game was the best three out of five in nine ball (race to three). Of course he beat me and I enjoyed it. - - - If you are ever in the Huntsville Alabama area just stop by Steve's Cue and Grill - - - as you walk in you will see a picture of Efren and I on the left just outside the entrance of my cue repair shop - - - I'm there every week, if I'm not in my shop just walk up to the bar and look to your right - - - I am normally setting at the first table having coffee or unsweetened tea if I am not teaching someone how to shoot pool - - - if you shoot pool, since I own all the Diamond pool tables in the bar, the table time will be on me and I will let you break!

I’m not too big into pool. I’m good at a lot of sports and games, but pool is not one of them. I’m pretty horrible. I’ve played enough to know that this is absolutely other worldly talent though. Efren could probably beat most using the wrong end of a cue , his vision when looking at and understanding a layout of table is beyond scary in what he sees. Then the class and humility in my mind sets him above ANYONE who ever touched a pool cue. He refers to I got “lucky” …. Never says anything about his enormous skill . G.O.A.T.

I shot pool for a living and one of my mentors taught me always to respect my opponents and if I was lucky that respect would carry over into my daily life.. He also told me that that i could never be the best, that there was no such thing, he said, "you might be among the best but you'll never be the best!" It keeps you humble and able to keep growing. American here, imo Earl is exactly the kind of pool player you don't want to be. Has to rely on sharking and bringing others games down due to lack of confidence with his own. which is really sad cause honestly the guys got more talent than he knew what to do with.. if he wasn't in his own way he would have been remembered with the likes of masconi. As for Efren his demeanor at the table is truly something to study, you can tell he has a lot of talent but he really worked hard to get where he was. I will always look up to Efren and just shake my head in shame at what Earl could have been.

In the Philippines we have a pool hustler word called “pinakakakagat” meaning Efrain planned it all along to give his opponent a heads up in the beginning of the game and at the last day he will decide to play seriously and play much better to make the pool game more exciting. Efrain is a pool hustler he knows from the beginning that he plays better than his opponent he can control the game the way he wanted to. He wasn’t doing good on the break shots on day one and day two that is bullsh*t and then suddenly Efrain played better on day 3 the score was 88 - 102 then suddenly Efrain kept on winning on day 3. He could have played a lot of safety on day 1 & day 2 if Efrain wanted to give his opponent a hard time but no he decided to let him win in the beginning. Efrain is very good in safety shots.

There are a lot of native comments about Earl and his behaviour has earned that. But it should be noted that Earl was diagnosed with severe bipolar disease which had a significant impact on his temperament. And made him very isolated in both his professional and personal life. The fact he could compete at this level in one of the most gruelling mental games in sports is a miracle. In the time span when he won three world championships, I don’t think there was ever a player better than Earl Strickland. No one could dominate like earl in a sport where very rarely do we have repeat champions. His disability affected his play significantly in later years. Efren had the greatest career of all time but Earl is the greatest player, though it was for a very very short time. The Bobby Fisher of Pool.

I don't play pool, I just love watching Efren the Goat. I have watched this entire match, it's on You Tube. Efren had the stamina and focus and tenacity to come from 20 racks behind. Earl kind of melted down. It made him seem like kind of an A-hole, to be honest; but also on You Tube, is a retirement ceremony for Efren where Earl states that Efren is the best ever. Some retirement, I just watched him clean the clock of a 3- time German world-champ at 70 years old. Long live Efren Reyes !
