Is there really a greater dopamine hit than when (even at lower tier jets) a missile hits your opponent mid-dogfight? Honestly I think missiles are a really fun addition to the game which add a layer of challenge to the game. Obviously 50G overload Fox-3s are not exactly what I’m talking about, but still, in general, I like missiles.

Man, I remember when top tier was Mig-15bis against Sabre F-2. This must have been 8 or 9 years ago now, and there were so few people at top tier, you knew most of your team and enemy team by name, regularly greeting each other, watching 1v1 duels from the sidelines, initiating players new to the jet tier by teaching them the ropes. Laughing at Me-163 players facing sabres. Getting clapped by said Me-163 player. Those were the days. When I got my MiG-15bis, I felt like I had ascended into a roundtable of knighthood brethren.

Back then all we needed was the Mig-17F and there would have been perfect balance at top tier. Sadly, it was only added much later when it was useless. We need a "WarThunder Classic"

It was nice because the discrepancies in performance at each Br rating weren't as extreme as they are now. It was absolutely not fun to play jets back then for...what, half the jets in the game at the time even still? 262s were DOA, the Yak jets were DOA, the Volksjet was okay because the FM used to be OP so it survived situations that were impossible, the MiGs were either great or subpar depending on the patch as they were tweaked to be better/worse. The early La jets were fun (La-174/La-15 or whatever) but definitely underperformed for a time, though this was fixed much later on after missiles were added to the game and turned the La jets into live bait. Meteors have always been hit-or-miss, it depends on the model and the Br and its' FM and whether or not Hisparkos are working at the time. The Hunter could do one thing, and that's go fast in a straight line. If you didn't play it like a faster P-51 at a higher br, you died is my understanding. But it absolutely was untouchable in the right hands versus anything else at that Br, for a time, which was only ridiculous because matches could last up to an hour back then. Nowadays they don't have the time to Formula One in the stratosphere for a million years, picking off impatient people climbing up to them or eventually coming back down to annihilate everybody groundpounding. Now that I think about it, the rocket fighters and the Sabres have been the only consistently okay-to-good jets at 7.7+ pre-missiles. So yeah, rose-tinted glasses dude.

The Yak-23 was severely OP and the Yak-30 was decent >Meteors were hit or miss The Meteor mk3 was punishing props, the Sea Metror was OP. The Other meteors were good support planes >162 was op nope, it was trash, good at being annoying to superprops but it struggled to kill anything. Other jets totally crushed it >163s were consistently good Wrong, 163s were worse because the average jet player had more experience and knew how to counter them. I distinctly remember the frustration of running after sabers and migs that always refuse to fight me. Today half of them dogfight you and die >Hunters were untouchable The speed difference between hunters, sabers and the Mig-17 was very small. They were not difficult to catch at all, matches would last an hour only when bad players faced a decent hunter pilot I would argue it was more fun before the hunter was added, but the meta didnt shift that much. Either way the gameplay was significantly more engaging, there is no rose tint anywhere

Pow: Your average wt player, misses some shots, does some basic manuevers, gets 2 to 3 kills once or twice in 7 games, feels satisfied, good enough. Meanwhile Defyn: Whines about flight characteristics of a plane, don't recommends it, calls it midd at best, proceeds to pull out Mavericks manuevers, devastates enemies, 7 kills on average per match, gets 26 kills in 3 matches, cracks a joke or two, leaves.

You're definitely not alone.They at some point must have changed the mig-15's thrust to weight characteristics. Using the mig 15BIS a couple of weeks ago, I was able to outstall climb a mig 21.

It's much more likely the MiG-21 had less speed or lost more speed in turns than the thrust-to-weight ratio being better on the MiG-15Bis.

​@@sushiman3817 If both are climbing straight up with the same speed, the MiG-21 should retain more speed due to the T/W ratio. It however is likely both are doing some maneuvers while going up and the delta wing and wing loading of the MiG-21 don't help with that. If both were at a level flight and then both pulled up, that simple pulling up could nullify any speed advantage the MiG-21 had.
