From my point of view of a developer and user, Windows Phone was the Burger King of mobile platforms. As a developer, it was unprofitable. Microsoft is too greedy, lacks creativity, and isn't quality driven. They were desperate for developers, but charged $99 a yearto be in the Windows Store. They also forced developers to update their apps with every update release. As a result, Windows phone struggled to attract third-party apps. Microsoft made it even worse by cutting off older devices from subsequent OS upgrades. It obliterated the existing installed base, resulting in an even smaller market for apps. As a user, the Windows Phone UI was visually dull and confusing. It didn't have a cogent UI like the iPhone did. At times it was too fluffy and others it was too spartan. It also didn't copy one of Apple's hallmark features: the seamless integration with their existing ecosystem. Windows Phone just didn't work well with Windows and Office. Moreover, Microsoft screwed earlier Windows Phone customers by cutting them off from upgrades. Some had owned them for a few months.

The bold colour options, build quality, heat management, amazing battery life and the list goes on. Cortana was years ahead of Google now and Siri. Upon watching, I don’t see the phones’ cameras as “flawless”, but I am not denying the good qualities for their time as well. And no, it’s not just because of their 41-megapixel camera status. Nokia highlighted the high megapixel count that came with those phones as their main desirable feature for marketing purposes, but a person like me who’s keen on reading and watching about tech beforehand knew better than just solely being attracted to it. Heck, they did not run Android which was rising fast and one of the must haves even during their launch.

The Surface Duo 2 is my favorite phone ever. Period. It gets a bad wrap. I get that it has issues, but it is fundamentally versatile and full of practical use case scenarios. I'm in year 3 and I still can't put it down.

Oh my god. I have to say something about the Surface Duo one phone. First of all, I'm a current user of the Surface Duo one. Yes the initial version of the software out of the box was bad, but 6 months after they released the phone, they released a major software fix. The phone is fine now. Not to mention the phone is the thinnest phone in the world with the two OLED sharp screens. I don't consider the Duo 2 an upgrade, because it's thicker than the Duo one, the phone no longer can be flipped all the way over again. This is a great phone. Oh and I bought the phone right at the 6 month point where they released the fix and dropped the price from $1500 to $700.

Nokia Lumia deserves to be A tier. You are knocking it down because its screen is 720p. This looks bad now, but back when it was released it was acceptable. Additionally the UI is clean and minimalist. A lot of people love Apple's minimalist UI and this is up there. The camera is INSANE even now so they went far beyond to make sure it was something that people loved. The phone is GOATed and definitely deserves A tier. The Sharp phone deserves to be S tier like MKBHD originally said.

I'll never understand the hate on the Duo 2. I would floor "superior" foldable owners with what I could do with it, because it wasn't a foldable, it was a dual screen phone and the software capitalised on that. The wider aspect ratio worked so much better than these current folders. I only changed because my carrier sims wouldn't work on our phones (the others being a Pixel and a Samsung).

I wanted to enter this comment section and say unironically that Windows phone was right. The entire thing for Windows phone was that you could integrate the things that different applications did into the OS so you didn't have to operate the phone by hopping in and out of apps but people couldn't wrap their head around it. Literally every chat thing is trying to do the same.thing. and much like the Lumia, like the tablet, Microsoft was just to early. And people a decade later are finally realizing segmenting functions into one application after another is stupid. Smh. The worst timeline.

I only disagree with the Surface duo's position. Today these devices are expensive as hell because many people want to buy them. Sure it's a specific niche, but the Surface duo is the perfect device for Nintendo DS, 2DS and 3DS emulation. It is also a spectacular device for reading ebooks.

Linus said about the RED Hydrogen 1 "I'd be pissed if I paid for this phone". Also, I asked a sales rep at Verizon if they ever sold one, and he can't recall even a single Hydrogen 1 ever being sold. I have had a Galaxy S21 ultra and currently use a zfold 5, yet I still find myself using a surface duo (original) for things like reading a book. It is just soo sleek and it is the best for multi-tasking. The LG wing I can see being good for those times when the keyboard keeps getting in the way of the screen (like filling out a form) just put the keyboard on the bottom screen and use the top screen for what you are working on.

Also the Lumia 1020 is being compared against much newer phones. I had a lumia 920 and it was better than the androids of the time and so well built. Shows how plastic phones could have been better than the all-glass ones we have now.

Giving The Essential Phone an S Tier and putting the Surface Duo and Lumia that low just show how stupid "tech reviewers" were back in the day and still are. And then they complain that things have become stale. Clowns every single one of them.
