Motive clearly has some ridiculously talented technical wizards. DICE constantly fails to release properly working games with their own Frostbite engine, and many other EA studios seem to struggle with it as well; meanwhile, Motive managed to make a polished Star Wars flight sim, and now they have a 3rd person horror game with a seamless world. I'm impressed.

The original Dead Space did have lockers and containers that mysteriously unlocked later in the game but this was never explained in the story and was obviously done by the devs to spread the loot out for when you had to backtrack. Personal theory. Sometimes the restrictions put on by a publisher can be a good thing. It holds back some of the nonsensical elements of a directors vision. An example is Star Wars. The original trilogy is hailed as being the greatest trilogy of all time. We had a lot of people telling George Lucas, "George, that idea sucks. We are going to do this." Not compare that to Star Wars prequels where everyone let George Lucas do whatever he wanted. It was a mess. Perhaps it is the same thing when it comes to developing video games.

The reason they made Nicole look older is because she's a Medical Officer, and not a low-ranking one at that. She's a scientists, a psychiatry and medical professional. Nicole from the original looked like she barely just made it out of the medical school. Some people might have a problem with that, but her new appearance lends much more levity to every scene she is. When the game tries to sell me on the idea that she's this med officer trying to make sense of what is going on through observation and research in her side quests, I can believe that. She looks old enough to be very capable of this stuff.

I can't stop saying it enough. I have replayed Dead Space 1-3 over and over so many times on my 360, then on pc. I thought I couldn't get scared anymore at least not from those games. This remake is a different beast. It all feels so sinister, especially if you play with headphones, everything all the sounds, the clinks, the whispers, even the sudden voices when noone is there, the feeling that nowhere in the ship do you feel safe, even when its areas you've already cleared. I can list so many more things but this game scares me. This remake also does something else, that I'm not sure the original had, maybe to a degree but, when you go back to areas that you have already been in, just to explore or to unlock a few doors before the end. The ship is already in a bad state and sometimes the outline is different, there's growth in those areas, there's even enemies that pop up just because. The lights flicker on and off, power is lost suddenly, the intercoms are going crazy. Some rooms have a fog dim effect and some rooms you hear things all around you in the vents but nothing happens, and you can hear isaac's heartbeat go on and on. It's intense.

9:00 The remake's new mechanic of choice between life support and lights and such is probably inspired by Alien: Isolation. That game had a power grid in some areas that allowed you to allocate points of limited electricity to enable or disable certain features of the area, from turning off the lights or turning on fog vents to reduce everyone's visibility, therefore leveling the playing field between you and the enemy, as well as other features like locking/unlocking vents which trades off being able to hide yourself in them for locking the alien out of them, and general electricity usage in the room which may remove environmental hazards like electrified water or electronically locked doors. Always a good horror game when you have to make the choice between doing something that might help you OR end up helping the enemy at any moment, further heightening tension and scare factor. Such a thing can't be done with just jumpscares which horror games really need to fucking learn nowadays. Use slow terror mostly, not *just* jumpscares.

@@NotPork Alien Isolation's AI is absolutely mind-blowing, blows everything, even today out of the water with its learning, director and adaptivity. The way the AI is structured to make the Alien mimic the thought processes of an actual animal that learns from experience rather than just being a big scary monster with simple chase AI as is the norm nowadays. The fairness of the "director" makes a great compromise between Fairness and Believability. It's absolutely insane, considering many of the aspects of it is based on how you play and interact with the world, immersing you even more into the world. Most of the AI in games these days are way too scripted or watered down to appeal to the babies and journalists who can't handle realistic AI as well as the decline of the gaming industry's creative minds, which is a shame. The literally limitless potential of AI has yet to be even tapped into, especially when it comes to interactive media like video games. The AI these days is too scripted to react to the player, rather than having that AI feel like it exists dynamically in the world as opposed to just existing for the player when it comes close enough to load. The reason you get better frames in higher resolution is because you're likely CPU-bound at lower resolutions. Meeting a threshold to trigger GPU usage over CPU can sometimes give you some dramatic performance gains because it isn't relying on the CPU anymore, which is really not designed to handle processing graphics.
@buckiesmalls
@buckiesmalls Жыл бұрын
Just because something is "ultrawide" does not mean its a higher res. Take God of war for example. That being said where is the option for ultrawide for this game. Or does it require 21:9 monitor? I think he was mistaken. Might have been ultrawide, but fewer pixels. His ultra wide was prolly 3440x1440. And 4k 16:9 is 3820x2160. Being cpu bound only means you do not lose much performance when increasing graphic faditly. But you never gain any.

You said it yourself about the flame thrower - it peels their flesh off, making it super easy to finish them off with the plasma cutter. Those 2 weapons complement each other perfectly. Burn off the necro’s layers and then pick them off nice and easy with the plasma cutter. That’s why the enemies seemed tankier to you - you weren’t using the peeling and dismemberment systems in tandem, which is what players are meant to do. Those two guns are all you need for an impossible run. If they’re the only guns in your inventory, you’ll get plenty of ammo for both. Light ‘em up and then pop off the crispy limbs with your plasma cutter in 1 or 2 shots. Use stasis and kinesis liberally to conserve even more ammo - you’ll be swimming in it soon enough. Upgrade your stasis whenever you can and get the prototype stasis from side quests. Impossible mode becomes easy mode, your main issues will be environmental threats and one shot kills from certain enemies/bosses.

I wanted the game day 1, but fucking SERIOUS I could have saved money by waiting! And so I'll do that from now on since "Games are getting expensive" apprentlly so why not save money! But hey stupid is as stupid does) I'll admit, I was always planning on buying this on sale later down the road BECAUSE of my feelings towards EA! I still do buy games from companies I HATE! But my hatred more determines how much I'll PAY for them! If ALOT like EA, then I'm buying on a massive sale that sees this at 20 dollars or so! Hell I'll use reward points or whatever to drop the price further! And I can wait LONG as they have to drop it eventually! They need the green, desperate for it, even if a little and they'll bitch about that amount! I'm the one that wins out! I just refuse to buy ANYTHING EA on day 1! They've proven AFTER fcking over Visceral and other companies that they'll accept buggy messes while expecting TOP DOLLAR (Even this one still has bugs, not gamebreaking, but noticable as GMAN pointed out) sell me a broken mess, I'll PAY the worth of a broken mess! I haven't played the original yet - I have it in my library and it's next on my list. I've been hesitating to buy the remake, but honestly some of the side by side comparison clips surprised me - I'm surprised how little difference there is, and I think that just shows how good the original looks even after so many years. The remake looks great, but I think I'll be just fine with the original for now and I'm excited to try it :)

I hope they make Dead Space 2 as well. I had so much fun with the Seeker Rifle, running around turning necromorphs into soup, yelling soup every shot until I got bored. At one point, I picked up the Contact Beam to see how effective it was and shot a necromorph's torso. I wish I recorded it. As I was charging, I held the S until I shot it. And I shit you not, I cut the torso off of the limbs. Didn't say soup though.

Hope they keep the multiplayer and Gabes DLC story severed. The multiplayer was actually fun, unique and had lore for why you were playing as one of the antagonists, Hans Tiedemann security team. It tied into the main games story really well. Although I can understand them not including it this time around.

This has to be a dream, I was at least 304.6% sure they'd mess it up completely. Also I like any addition they make towards Isaac tinkering with stuffs and making engineering choices even though they might not be that deep. I really liked the weapon tinkering in DS3 *as an idea,* the execution wasn't that good, but the idea and the "modular thinking" that an engineer might have was nice.

One of my favorite things about the remake is how it actually manages to feel like a new game. I replay the original Dead Space and Dead Space 2 at least once a year, around October. I've been doing that for years. Despite having replayed them not too long ago, firing this up and playing it really did feel like a fresh and brand new experience. It really is not just a facelift, it manages to feel like an entirely different game. There's a lot that you will remember, and there's also just enough that is different or new that makes it distinct. I think one of the funniest things was when you back track through the Hangar to get to Engineering. I was fully expecting to head in there and get the Peng statue, but the statue wasn't there, just a text log that basically said "Hahah, it's not here. Look somewhere else." The developers clearly knew that this was a game people had replayed on numerous occasions, and they also knew exactly what to change or make different from the original to keep it fresh. I've replayed the original enough times to know where every playing-dead necromorph is, what to expect in every area, etc. They've changed _just_ enough of these to make them feel very new and different. In the original game, Isaac's grunts and breathing would become more desperate depending on how much health you have. There is a very nice touch in the remake where Isaac's voice lines are also delivered with more desperation/pain depending on your health. I ended up on one sliver of health and Isaac was holding an entire conversation like he was in desperate need of a morphine shot. There's lots of cool little details like this in the game, and it's all these little details adding up that make it so good. This is really what the Callisto Protocol should have been. It's amazing how much it got wrong.

The flamethrower in this game is god tier. It does great at crowd control since it can make nechromorphs “panic” and stay still allowing you space and time to escape. Plus it only takes a few seconds of flame, maybe 4 at max to kill them. Even when I had base, unupgraded flamethrower it did massive dam. Plus for those little baby worms that splatter out of the mama nechromorph, nothing beats the flame thrower Edit: I also dont know if Gman is just… bad a ammo management and isnt good at scavenging and backtracking, but even on Hard on my first playthrough (im on Chpt 10 now, so essentially end game) I have my rig mostly upgraded, my cutter fully upgraded, my pulse rifle mostly upgraded, and my flamethrower partially upgraded. I also never had ammo management issues either, im mostly having to control my inventory from max
@Skyblade799
@Skyblade799 Жыл бұрын
The flamethrower is actually absurd unlike in the original, but the way it needs to be used is really odd. When an enemy has it's legs shot off, you can tap fire to re-proc fire on them, saving an absurd about of ammo. For enemies actively approaching, spray them until they get sent into a panic state (which is most), and this allows you to finish them in any way you want (usually shooting a leg off and watch them just burn to death). You can let the fire do its work and switch to something else once they panic, as the fire does a lot of damage over time and seemingly weakens all limbs (probably because it doesn't seem to have location damage like the other weapons. And the fireball makes multi-path rooms into single path rooms/multi-enemy fights into single enemy fights (duration upgrades are nuts). You don't use it for positional damage or direct/quick kills. This is coming from someone who hated the useless flamethrower in DS1. Edit: Also those wall enemies are dead if you fireball them directly.

I like the system where you only get ammo for weapons you're carrying. It forces you to find a balance between versatility through a large arsenal, and having enough ammo and inventory space to feed your arsenal. The alternate fire on the flamethrower is super useful against those guys stuck to the walls who have a bunch of tentacles coming out of their stomach. Normally they take a ton of ammo from one or two different guns, but you can usually melt them with one shot with the flame wall. And it's ironically not a problem using a chunk of ammo for the flame wall since the flamethrower isn't great for much else

I personally can't see that going well with the fans without switching to a different protagonist, which will probably cause problems too. The thing with horror is that it can't survive prolonged exposure. As much as people hate when it happens, horror series turning into action is just a natural progression, you can't keep freaking out over zombies when you've gone through a whole mansion filled with them or wet your pants over xenomorphs after dealing with a whole hive, you get used to it. This applies not only to fictional characters, but the player as well, you eventually stop getting scared by monsters and switch to thinking about how to efficiently fight them or, as already was the case in original Dead Space, you mow them down with little effort and they become yet another obstacle to finishing the game.

There's little things I notice too that are odd with the remake and that I dislike. Isaac talking is interesting, but I find it takes away from the ultimate twist and his complete lack of reaction isn't consistent with Dead Space 2. One scene I can think of in 2 is the Ceawler scene where it explodes a woman and blood fills the window - Isaac gags and visibly recoils. Here, he stands ramrod stiff as the lurker kills a guy. It's odd to me. Something else odd to me is how stiff Isaac looks too. He looks like he's running with a titanium spine, and it doesn't look as fluid or smooth as the original. When walking, Isaac will move his gun around him and look around, and he'll also shift his stance more while running. I noticed that's kinda absent here.
