The straight ' and curly/right-slanted ’ apostrophes are two different unicode characters, and most fonts will have both. Some software will automatically change the straight one to the curly one (same with quote marks) when appropriate, others won’t. Some people will always try to use the curly one because it generally looks better, others don’t notice or think it’s worth the effort. So the different ones being used or could be down to different software being used in that instance, or it could indeed indicate a different person made it.

just opened up photoshop to give them both a whirl - you're right, the chaparral pro I found online has different apostrophes for both unicode characters. the straight one ' does show up, and it is the same one seen in various jontron videos (see imgur.com/a/CoobyEd for reference, 1b specifically) in the deadgrumps video, it may not have appeared correctly due to editing problems. I have known vegas to be very iffy with grammar and new fonts in the past, so it will sometimes default to a standard arial or verdana apostrophe when it otherwise shouldn't. I think that's what we're seeing here - and call it a hunch, but I don't think that would happen on barry's computer (!) given how much he's used chaparral pro in the past.

In 2016/2017 I had a really weird phase of lurking the CG subreddit. I honestly don’t like any era of GameGrumps vids but I was fascinated with it for some reason. Maybe I just liked the Internet drama/slight creepy slant or maybe it was because I was a fan of Jon at the time (ended up drifting away from his vids around the time of Starcade, because I thought the higher production levels weakened the charm of his vids and looking back on Jon, yikes). Haven’t heard the name in so long, it looks so dead now. Maybe everyone involved just wanted to draw a line in the parasocial relationships, tbh deleted posts from Grumps could show regret for getting too involved. I think it’s an Occam’s Razor situation. Some of the theories back then were absolutely insane so at least we’re part that point.

oh hey! yeah, there /may/ be some follow-up material there, but cataloguing it proved incredibly difficult + I think that most of the comments are probably very short, so not much to read into there. I may return to this with an iceberg style video, I'm not so sure yet. quite an unlikely video for me to do but I may get interested in this area again so who knows!
