As the BKA ruled that arrow shooters that have the arrow gliding OVER and not THROUGH a barrel are non regulated and legally toys, we do spend a lot of time to develop home made shooters based on that concept.
This latest iteration has a lot of promise: It is fairly compact and still really powerful. At 50 ft-lb, the energy level is on par with very viable commercial crossbows - at a fraction of the cost and much smaller dimensions.
Powered by a co2 cartridge from an emergency bike pump, the home made arrows fly straight and fast.

A more appropriate frog species for Joerg would be Phylobates terribilis- otherwise known as the world's most toxic poison dart frog! Kept as pets these cute yellow critters lose much of their toxicity. Wild caught in jungle though, it is toxic enough to possibly kill you within minutes if it landed on a cut ( after exuding its secretions by handling etc )

Sounds like a cool idea, but it would have to be a very high-tech grapple made of stable yet lightweight material. I don't think this device could propel a large hook far enough, also you need to keep in mind shooting vertically upwards is going to take away a lot of power.

Yeah, I'm thinking get one of the bigger refillable CO2 cartridges (maybe put it in a backpack and run a hose to the device), then have a pump that slides a new projectile over the barrel. Maybe a length halfway between the 2 in this vid so the pump isn't as long. Hell, since there are already batteries, add a motor that pushes the new projectile in place and makes it semi auto!

Sounds complicated & unwieldy impractical. I saw a film of an engineer who fabricated a mechanical repeating crossbow. The motors that cocked the crossbow making it effectively so called semi-auto were not exactly compact. Also the rate at which it cocked meant that there was around a 3 second delay between each shot before you could actually pull the trigger so not a true semi-auto, more accurate to just call it repeating. I get the impression that a repeating more powerful CO2 powered arrow shooter would be equally cumbersome with a slow rate of fire. Although these are cool & ingenious there is a reason similar tools are only used for hunting & target practice & not accepted for self-defence, that is because there maximum power to size ratio is inferior to gunpowder cartridges & reload rate isn't acceptable. Joerg is a genius & although his designs are not often pretty he has almost reached the technical limit of what this technology is capable of in terms of power & compactness. If this concept was honed to it's absolute limit making it as small as possible, aesthetically pleasing & perhaps an extra outer barrel for another reserve shot or a complicated motor & reloading system that quite possibly won't work then it could be suitable for home protection as long as the home invader hasn't got an actual firearm lol :-)

You and i both know its a completely different ballgame in the U.S. Depending on which state, i think they just have to fill out some kind of paperwork to do a background check. In Germany i guess, like in Sweden, u either have to be a hunter, or a regular member of a gun club for several months or a collector to be able to get a license, and u cant get the guns they have in the U.S.

You should really come to Alaska I can't even imagine the cool guns you could make in the US! As long as the barrel is 16" for for rifles, and for pistols it can't have a butt stock and no full auto unless you have an FFL and you can't resell your homemade guns for a profit that's it the rest is free for you to work with. But Alaska is best because it has no state gun restrictions only the above mentioned federal. Alaska the freest state in the US. Those would still be considered toys as well with no regulations and same with air guns so you could do even more here. I think you would like it very much true freedom and very beautiful land and mountain lands.

Also, large parts of Alaska have no property tax. Thus once you pay for a piece of land it is *your land*. Government can't take it away for not paying your property tax to them, unlike most everywhere else in the USA where you're really renting it from the taxing government.

Compressors only go up to 130 psi. The co2 cartridge exceeds 800 psi.
