Folks, thanks for the kind words! Two general remarks: 1. I can't add an air reservoir or Co2 because then it would be considered an air gun in Germany. Air guns are legal to own (if weak enough), but you need to be a master gunsmith to be allowed to make one. So I can't do that. A blow gun is exempt, but ONLY if it is muscle powered and no energy is stored. 2. The aiming is not hindered by the magazine. With a blowgun, you aim by looking at the muzzle end of the tube. You actually will see them TWICE, with the target right in the middle.
@musikSkool Жыл бұрын
Germany should make a new law to allow people who register with the government as "amateur engineers" to be allowed to make devices for their own experimentation that they are only allowed to use on their own land. As long as the total energy of a projectile is under 40 (or maybe 50) joules, and they do not leave their land with it in an operable state. So if you take out the ammo and remove the "energy storage" system of the device, spring, bow limbs, CO2, air reservoir, etc. then you can transport the device. If someone is on the street with one, and it is in an operable state, they would have to pay a fine and have it confiscated by the police.

Could you add a shoulder stock and slightly offset mouth piece? Would make it a lot easier to hold and aim. Folding tactical stock, obviously : -)
@SneedsFeeduckAndSeeduck Жыл бұрын
Spraying some Ballistol between the tubes should make it a little more airtight, which should make O-Rings unnecessary here. Another thing came to mind when you said no force can be stored legally; would it be possible to have some kind of air pressure piston that is muscle operated in a way where you have to use quite a bit of force, but then it releases all the pressure once some threshold of force is reached (but still without a real separate trigger)? So that only in the moment you finish pushing (or better yet, pulling) the piston, the pressure chamber is opened? Or maybe similar to those ring-style slingshots with a rubber pouch that you pull and then let go to fire, but for air instead. If you had such a mechanism, you could transform arm strength into instantaneous air pressure. Not sure whether that would make it into an airgun, though. But if it has no trigger, and is (air) spring operated, it would be a sling shot, no?
@VTSfilms Жыл бұрын
a small idea, if you have a rubber ring at the end if the inner tube (near your mouth), you can slam/press the outer tube against it, making a perfect seal, without the rubber having to move. This will solve the air-tightness of one side. I don't have a solution for the other side yet. But ill try to think of one.

Joerg! It sounds like you're not getting an explosive breath when you blow. Try using your tongue to make the air a little sharper similar to using a thumb on a garden hose. Also, a full dish shape mouthpiece might make a better seal than the type on the cold steel blowgun

You dont need o-rings to improve the seal, you can use headloss to decrease airflow trough the gaps. Some centrifugal pumps use this, just cut a bunch of grooves on the inside near the edges of the sliding tube (as if you were gonna put o-rings, but without them), or on the outside of the fixed tube. So air that is escaping trough the gaps fill these grooves and loose most of the pressure it had, creating an obstacle for the rest of the air that is coming behind it.

I'm surprised I've never seen a design like this for a blowgun, it's such a simple solution! I do remember maybe 10 - 15 years ago the Nerf modding community was experimenting with similar nested tubing breech systems to shoot their foam darts. There was a popular design called an Angel breech that could feed Nerf darts from a magazine in a similar way, but it relied on stored air to propel the darts rather than lung power. The Nerf community also loves blowguns but surprisingly I don't think I've ever seen them combine the two ideas. I'm sure somebody's gonna be inspired to try it with Nerf after seeing your video.

For O-rings, I am sure you have already considered many iterations but I think an o-ring mounted around the barrel at the base of the magazine at the mouth-end and an o-ring mounted on the shroud at the fire-end might work so that you are not trying to rub a tight o-ring over the opening repeatedly. This one has potential I think and I totally would want one 😁

You can probably find a shaft made of Delrin? Here in the states we have Delrin bolts is some paintball guns, just some lube, no O rings required. It may be hard to find that Long of a piece of Delrin but that would make it lighter and quieter and have an airtight seal because you can have the Delrin tube machined to the perfect Diameter
@ClashBluelight Жыл бұрын
So I can think of a few improvements. 1: You could add an "S" bend pipe in the mouthpiece. This will allow you to inhale quicker because you're not worrying about accidentally inhaling the dart. 2: Alternatively, you could have a ring that stops the munition from sliding backwards past a certain point. Then, you could have the mouthpiece open into a wider blowing chamber. This would allow you to blow air into the gun far faster, and the air would speed up even further when it's compressed by entering the narrower passage where the dart is. 3: You could make a version that loads round ball shot, instead of darts. This would be far easier to make, and would store much more ammo given the same space. 4: You could add a rubber band to the slider. That way, you can simply slide it forward, and it'll slide back on its own. This will also significantly reduce the chance of user error. Those are just the thoughts I had while watching the video. Great Idea, and pretty good execution for a first try. I wouldn't have even known where to start.
