The start of this documentary actually made me realise that we know what happened with the Tsunami and we've seen the footage, but we didn't really hear about the people who were affected by the actual earthquake first, before any Tsunami occurred.

I am deeply saddened by the lives lost each time an earthquake or tsunami hits coastal regions across the world. In this case is it dumb of me to suggest that maybe constructing a fairly wide drainage system on coastal areas to ACCOMMODATE the huge waves that will sweep back into the ocean. It may be far fetched or bogus I'm not sure but I think it's worth looking into.

I am a retired research engineer and hold NRC NQA1 Certifications in nuclear, mechanical, and electrical engineering. I published numerous papers books and reports in the nuclear field. Contrary to the content of this video Japan had full knowledge that their nuclear reactors were not built to the proper safety standards. They were deficient and numerous areas... Including the location of their backup generators and the lack of vinting capability for their reactor vessels. These are standard requirements in the United States and most nuclear countries. I personally was involved in this notification of the Japanese reactors' Safety deficiencies in the late 1980s. Japanese officials knew that these deficiencies existed...To claim otherwise is simply UNTRUE. I cannot say why they failed to make the proper modifications, but to claim that they had no knowledge of them is simply FALSE. There are numerous other false claims made regarding the hazards and consequences. It is most unfortunate that the news media tends to accept totally unreliable information. My 1st involvement was with the 3 mile island incident. If you refer to the president's commission on 3 mile island, you will note that the ONLY hazard to public health was "anxiety caused by fallacious news reports". [It was established that people in the media were gathering their "information" from random people on street corners and refused to accept input from legitimate nuclear engineers and physicists. At that time, I was involved with nuclear research at Stanford University, working with Doctor Edward Teller (Hoover institute) and Professor Thomas Connelly, and the media refused to accept any input from them even though they were 2 of the top nuclear experts in the world.] The news media was only interested in sensationalism and not accuracy in 1979 which was the only public hazard resulting from the incident, and, obviously, the news media has not gotten any better regarding concern for the truth.

I donated money back then! We all did, millions or even billions. I don’t know the exactly amount, but it was a lot of money for this particular tsunami in Thailand. Are they asking for donations for better warning systems because there are not better warning systems the earthquake should’ve been a big red flag it still didn’t work. Nobody knew under the ocean the tectonic plates had shifted in the way that they did that eventually caused all of the destruction. So many lives lost. Sad! RIP. This came up on my News app as if some thing new had happened, which I’m totally confused about and then it went to this KZbin station. I’m still totally confused. I would love to help if something new is happened. Of course I would donate.

I had a "dream" in 2003, one year and a half before the tsunami in December 2004. I saw myself somewhere there after it happened, I saw a lot of destruction, water and debris all over, I saw people suffering and crying, I saw military personnel helping. I woke up crying a lot and I immediately told my mom something really bad would happen in that area around Malaysia. I didn't know how or when, to this day I still don't know why I knew it would happen in that area, but I will never ever forget that. Also, I don't know why God allowed me to see something like that. I'm so sorry for all the victims and their families. My heart goes out to all them and to Japanese victims and their families in 2011 as well. I don't know when or where but unfortunately it will happen again and it's going to be much worse. God have mercy on us all. 😢😭🙏🏻

It's not the height that does the damage, it's the WAVELENGTH that causes all the death and destruction. Even an 80ft. wave at Nazare', Portugal has a wavelength of 200-250 meters. A tsunami wavelength is measured in MILES, several miles from peak to peak, but this documentary makes little to no mention of it, only focused on the height.
