"Safer than picking up a 3-year-old child." I have a 3-year-old child right now, and I can confirm this is true. Not only is the barbell balanced, it never tries to dive out of your arms halfway up.

My deadlift max is a ‘meh’ 405. On a regular basis, I need nothing even remotely close to that (once a week, I have to carry a 40lb. bag of kitty litter into the house). But, when my dad (a big guy) was dying of cancer, it was very comforting to him, and gratifying for me, to be able to help him out of his wheelchair and into his bed with ease and gentility. I was grateful to be ready for that.

deadlifts is also great for aesthetics in that it corrects posture. correcting anterior pelvic tilt (lumbar lordosis) helps correct rounded upper back (thoracic kyphosis) which in turn helps correct forward head posture. correcting bad posture is one of the biggest things one can do for their aesthetics.

I travel a lot and have been to lots of gyms on day passes. I have officially given up on calling and asking about barbells because NO ONE KNOWS WHAT A BARBELL IS. I'm not exaggerating. I have to be a detective and scroll the photos available on google to see if theres a squat rack and barbell in any of their posted pictures. Its easy to forget how fringe strength training is..

Actually I can deny that. The Valsalva effect protects the spine, so does a belt. It's true that given some circumstances you probably will never to deadlift 700 pounds, but even people with severe conditions can benefit from deadlifting 1, 2 or 3 plates. It just depends, but hardly anyone has such a bad back that deadlifts are to be avoided altogether. I invite you to watch Barbell Logic #26, it talks about a guy in his late 50s, with terminal cancer, on chemo, recently had two major surgeries due to a completely collapsed lung, and he still picked himself up and now is pulling 500 for 3 reps. So as I said, it takes a lot to say you can't deadlift at all.

Just to chime-in here that even if you are new to deadlifting and/or just pulling a smaller amount of weight than some meat-heads, deadlifts as an exercise hit so many muscles-groups and conditions so much of your anatomy in such a short time. ...As Rip says, if done properly, it forces a lot of adaptations in the whole kinetic chain. For instance, as a runner/jogger, I've been fascinated at seeing how doing some deadlifting has forced certain re-balancing or straightening-out of minor imbalances in my feet, hips and pelvis. ...All runners, at various points, develop chronic overuse issues or compensatory tweaks. And it's true what many trainers (including Rip) will tell you, in that it's about the best thing for runners, joggers, walkers, and bikers to incorporate some basic strength movements.

1) because it’s a competition lift (powerlifting meets, strongman events, etc..} 2) because it’s the best overall back exercises ever. PERIOD. (Seriously, nothing works the back and core like deadlifts) 3) because of the nature of the lift (multi joint and multi muscle exercise), you can progress on it for longer periods of time, keep gettin stronger and better every year for a LOT of years.

so doing back extensions to improve my deadlift is why I had a very sore lower glass back. So I am now going to go from 152lbs to 135lbs and perfect my form, adding 5lbs every 6 or 9 days I am not sure. the trick is knowing what weight to pull, you may be able to pull more weight than what is wise. small muscles in the lower back may need to catch up. after 40 years of atrophy

@jackcarter6629
@jackcarter6629 7 жыл бұрын
DL is an exercise you have to start with weight you can handle with perfect form. I reckon you need to lower the weight and then increase it less frquently to allow your lower back muscles to get stronger. Starting Strength tells you to increase the weight quicker and more frequently, but not everybody can do this. Work within your capabilities. Also do DL one day a week ONLY. Each week you will be stronger. The key is to Increase the weight VERY slowly over time, LITTLE by LITTLE. If it's increased just 2 pounds a week, that will be an increase of 100Ibs in 12 months. In a gym, forget this. Your ego won't let you do this, so do it at home. I personally increase the weight when I can do 8 reps. With some weight it has taken me 5 weeks to increase from 5 reps to 8 reps, but when I manage it that weight doesn't make the back hurt anymore, it has got stronger. You'll find sometimes it has got strong enough for higher weight increments to be used, if so then do it, but when the weight is hurting again, dial it back a bit and reach 8 reps with it again. Then repeat the cycle of increasing weight again, and so on.
@VegetoStevieD

Upload a deadlift video to your channel and post it here. I'd love to see what you're doing. There are a lot of things that can happen with fair form too. You could be chronically holding tension in your glutes, hips, hamstrings and hip flexors. This happens to me sometimes. If those muscles get too tight, your back will move slightly to accommodate the lack of hip mobility, and force transfer through the hips ceases to be effective. My hips etc get so chronically tight sometimes that my heart struggles to pump blood against the wall of tension, and I feel like I'm having heart problems. Releasing the chronic tension resolves both of the above issues for me when this happens. Strange, but true. I know it's counter to what SS often preaches, but there are times when some mobility work is needed to recover. Even 'Uncle Rippie' has mentioned that they stretch hamstrings at their gym. They speak against stretching ALL THE TIME, and before lifting. ....But they do stretch sometimes.
