Fun story. I was a level 8 wizard in a DnD campaign. Through a quest, the DM gave us each a wish. (There were three of us) the others wished for a bag of holding full of platinum coins. (Basically uber rich now) and the other (a Ranger) wished for a Bow which always hits. (Of course, those that know how to make stealth attack rogues, know how retarded OP that is. I however... I wished for an enchanted glass rod, which, when broken, summons a fist sized black-hole at wherever I happen to be looking at the time the object is broken. Well, I am a bit of a nerd and know the basics on Black Holes. The DM granted my wish, and I sat on the Glass Rod for a while without explaing to the DM what kind of world ending item he just gave me. About two years later, we are all around Level 13 now. We are facing a Skelton Terasque, which had been risen by a super powerful Litch. We were losing. If we lost, the Litch would attain an Object which would allow him to fully revive the Terasque and leave it under his control. Well, somehow, I managed to find myself as the last remaining player alive. Almost a TPW. I pulled out the Glass Rod, and, while looking at the Litch riding his abomination, I said, "The free peoples of Seirwinguard will not be broken... I condemn you to the abyss." And broke the rod while looking at the Litch. (Note, mind you, at this point, we as a group wanted to move on to another campaign. We were getting bored with the characters, and wanted to move on. We had agreed to one more adventure before retireing, and the DM I guess had his own plans on what retirement ment.) The DM looked at me confused for a moment before remembering realizing what I had just done. He smiled, as though I had found the way out. He was about to explain what had happened, and I said, "I think you need to know exactly what you just allowed me to summon. I then pulled out my phone, and used a quick video to show him what a blackhole that size would do. The DM looked at me, facepalmed, and then begrudgingly began to explain how, for a moment after the glass broke, nothing happened... then, a split second later, the Litch was just... gone... no noise, nothing. One moment it was there, the next, all presence was gone, in the same moment, all the undead the Litch had summoned returned to rest. The next moment, the bones of the now dead again Terasque dissapeared... and then... nothing... I was dead. In the Afterlife, my wiazard was allowed by the Gods to see what I had done. He watched on in Horror as the Planet was quickly swollowed by the blackhole... The Gods then turned to the Spirit of the Wizard and said, "Congratulations. You have become a detroyer of a world. Now we must create a new one. You have attained the status of a God, your nature is one of Chaotic Evil. Through your works, you may one day become a God of Neutrality, but your entrance to this plane of Existance has barred you from ever truely perfoming acts of good or peace. You are a War God. Bound to Chaos and the erasure of all matter in the mortal realm. Your presence will bring a dreadful, quiet, empty terror to all those that notice you." Our next campaign Had my Last Character as a God of the World. I was allowed to create Lore for the God. I went for a Chaotic Neutral orientation for the God. Neither Good, nor Bad, but his whole existence is around the collection of destructive power. The erasure of matter, in particular, is pleasing to the Diety. I was a Paladin, which championed him as his Diety. A chaotic neutral paladin. That was also a fun run.😮

The mass defect (aka the amount of mass converted straight into energy) from those early nukes was quite poor given the amount of materials put into them. The newer ones were much more efficient, but it's still like several kilograms of _material_ put into them for a few grams of evaporated matter. 5 grams of antimatter would also make a similar kaboom to the little black hole, and you would get to choose when it goes off.

@@JMurph2015i mean fair enough. I just don’t get how only 5 grams of mass gives off such a huge amount of energy. Wouldn’t the new “Black Earth” now drift to a closer orbit to the sun since it has more than double the original mass? Don’t know if it would colide but it certainly would disrupt Venus and Mercury’s orbits,and if it drifts too close to the sun it will pull a bit of its outer layers and form an even bigger accretion disc
@Simpson178664 ай бұрын
By that logic, Jupiter would be closer to the Sun than we are ;) If the Earth-mass Earth is orbiting the Sun, then that means that the centripetal acceleration pushing the Earth out is balanced by the gravitational acceleration pulling it in. This wouldn't change if the Earth suddenly became twice as massive because Acceleration equals Force divided by Mass - there would be twice as much force, but also twice as much mass resisting the force, so that would cancel out and leave the acceleration the same.
@onesmileybaldy83034 ай бұрын
@@Simpson17866 but if the mass and the force the sun and black earth makes on each other doubles,then the orbit while keeping the same speed halves. The mass isn’t resisting the force,it’s actively pulling them closer,and earth doesn’t have the speed to keep its current stable circular orbit so it will fall into a closer and elliptical one. Not enough to get Earth anywhere near close to the sun still,but the caos all this new mass will bring to the entire solar system might eventually lead it to get there,idk.
@Simpson178664 ай бұрын
@@onesmileybaldy8303 "The mass isn’t resisting the force, it’s actively pulling them closer" It does both, and they cancel out. That's why acceleration due to gravity is the same for all objects, regardless of mass. A 100-pound object falls to Earth at the same speed that a 100,000 pound object falls, and a 1-Earth-mass planet orbit the Sun at the same speed as a 2-Earth-mass planet that started in the same place
@onesmileybaldy83034 ай бұрын
@@Simpson17866 you’re overlooking that the force itself increases,and doesn’t just cancel out because it NEEDS more speed to keep the status quo. The acceleration due to gravity is the same for all objects regardless of their mass, but this principle applies to objects falling freely, not to orbital dynamics where velocity and distance play crucial roles. Let me give you this simple analogy for you to understand: Imagine a car driving in circles around a track. If someone suddenly pulls the car harder with a rope (like Earth's doubled mass increases gravitational pull), but the car keeps the same speed, it will start moving closer to the center of the track. The stronger pull and unchanged speed mean the car can't stay in the same circle-it needs more speed to balance the stronger pull. Similarly, if Earth's mass doubles, its stronger gravitational pull will make it move closer to the Sun because its current speed isn’t enough to counter the increased pull. This changes its orbit to a closer, more elliptical path around the Sun.
@onesmileybaldy83034 ай бұрын
@@Simpson17866 The acceleration due to gravity is the same for all objects regardless of their mass, but this principle applies to objects falling freely, not to orbital dynamics where velocity and distance play crucial roles.

Actually I believe the distance of the diameter of a planet like Earth should be more than big enough for Newton's universal law of gravitation to apply. Meaning if we imagine a hollow planet with the same diameter of the Earth composed only of a "thin" crust and a black hole of around the mass of the Earth in the center, then the gravity experienced by a person standing on the surface of the planet should be about the same you experience on Earth!

Wait. Slightly more mass than the Earth but quadrillions times more gravity? Nope, I don’t think so. Just cos it’s a black hole it doesn’t necessarily have more gravitational force. It’s still related to it’s mass. Slightly more mass than earth would mean slightly more gravitational force. I’m pretty sure I’m not wrong here.
@drsatan96174 ай бұрын
You haven't factored in density, which is a multiplier for gravity
@moradin844 ай бұрын
Gravitational force also depends on distance. The video implies that given the same distance, the black hole's gravitational pull would be quadrillions of times stronger than the Earth's. If such a black hole appeared something like 6,3 km over your head, it would counterbalance the Earth's gravity and you could float in midair as if you were on the International Space Station. If a well could ever be dug all the way to the center of the Earth and its nucleus were replaced by this black hole, you could jump into it and free fall towards it just as fast. If by some remote chance you could step on this black hole like on a balloon, your body would be quadrillions of times heavier (instead of e.g. 75 kg you would weigh 75,000,000,000,000 tonnes), and in no time it would be spaghettified, vanishing into it with no visible changes in the black hole whatsoever.
@chair13194 ай бұрын
You’re wrong here. Earth’s mass is smeared within its volume, and you can get as close, as Earth’s surface allows. Basically, prohibited distances. By making volume extremely small, you free a lot of that distances, and gravitational pull within them would be extremely strong, as you get closer to the source. If you treat them both as a dot, you’d need to check gravitational pull at Earth’s radius, and at a distance around 10^9 times smaller than that
@TheTrueBuster4 ай бұрын
@@chair1319 Thanks, your explanation makes a lot of sense. I stand corrected. Quadrillions still seems like a massive difference, but we are talking about quite large numbers here so I get the reason why there is a difference.
@longtan16223 ай бұрын
you forgot about density
@tomturton4 ай бұрын
To clarify the point about gravitational forces being "quadrillions of times stronger than Earth's" for the coin-sized black hole, this only counts when you are much closer to the BH than you are to the centre of Earth. The Earth's radius is 6,371 km, so from this distance from the centre of the black hole, you would experience the same gravitational pull that you are experiencing now.
@moradin844 ай бұрын
I think it's not that simple... the animation of the video seems accurate enough to visualize what would actually happen. Basically, if such a black hole appeared anywhere on the Earth's surface (i.e. on the ground), the center of mass of the Earth-black hole system would still be inside the Earth, but tilted to approximately halfway between where the black hole is and the Earth's center, and everything around that point would be subjected to twice its normal weight (due to the gravitational pulls of the Earth and the black hole adding up); the very Moon would have its orbit made unstable and it would begin spiralling towards that point. Basically, no matter where on the Earth's surface you are: unless you were in the close proximity to the black hole, you'd start weighing twice as much (and it would all happen instantly, due to the gravitational waves travelling at the speed of light). The black hole would irresistibly sink into the Earth, pulled towards the new center of mass by the Earth's iron nucleus, which would in turn be pulled towards the same point by the black hole. And yet, not only would everything have twice its weight (mountains, oceans, stones, the atmosphere hence the air pressure): anything not on the black hole-center of mass-Earth's nucleus axis would be instantly "knocked off balance", because of the sudden and drastic change in position of the gravity center, almost every human building would collapse in an instant, mountains would crumble, plate tectonics would be so affected that they'd cause biblical earthquakes and tsunami, you name it
