The reason you code the battery in is because it will cause your alternator to prematurely wear. I unfortunately made this mistake. It is not something that will show abruptly, but It will eventually cause premature failure of the alternator. The alternator believes you have an older battery so it works harder to charge it. I did not code mine on my e92 M so learned the hard way.

I know the BMWs are a PITA compared to Subie and Evo… But we’re all wanting to learn from you so it’s probably a good idea to go “by the book”. I was one of the ones who commented on the battery coding in the original video. I see people have already commented on that here so I’ll let that one be. One thing I noticed you didn’t do here, maybe you’ll want to do next time… when you refill the coolant system, there’s a bleed procedure to remove air bubbles. first hook the car up to a charger. With the ignition on and the car off, turn the AC to max temp, slowest fan speed, then hold the accelerator pedal to the floor for 10 seconds. It’ll cycle the coolant for 5-10 minutes then you’ll be good to go.

a lot to go through would be just easier to deal with a Evo or Subie

Hi buddy. I’ve made that same mistake with the radiator plug. Basically you’ve got to drain it by unscrewing the blue plug. Once the white plug is installed it cannot be removed without breaking the lock clip which holds it in place. Shouldn’t have any issues it’s just where you removed it previously. Quite a common mistake that everyone makes. Hope this helps. Very nice clean build fplay 👍🏼

My cayenne is the same. You don't "have" to code in the battery, but it's better to do so. Porsche's have to make a new recharging map for the new battery based on the Amp's and Ah's. All you gotta do is just put in the capacity and brand.
@jaredriley13263 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard about the battery thing for VW/Audi as well but I believe it just programs itself, as long as no battery light is on, and all the lights went away, you should be solid. I just got a new battery and moved it to my trunk recently and when the car starts back up every light on the dash is on an you have to drive the car or turn the wheel back an forth(steering angle sensor) then everything goes away after about 15 sec and it’s programmed.🤝

BMW's store the state of the battery, without coding the battery the car will not charge the battery optimally, it will either cause the battery to fail early or the alternator. Learn for our mistakes and get it coded. Something like Carly can help if you dont have or know how to use ISTA
@coltadams453 жыл бұрын
good stuff man, love the videos but that beamer needs a wrap!
@eman93723 жыл бұрын
lol you guys are getting the battery coding thing wrong. you code to change battery type or capacity. you register new batteries, the exchange tells the car to not use the prior adaptions to charge the battery. As your battery gets old the ibs communicates to the dme to adjust how much the alternator will charge and when it should cycle. essentially you will over charge your new battery and prematurely reduce its service life

And of course because its a BMW part, its made of plastic which will eventually break due to heat and age. Its how BMW gets you is with parts and labor and not really the price of the car you buy. Its why I quit with my e92 as a daily driver. I still have my f20 BMW X3 Msport though, and that throws codes for no reason too. Luckily I have ICarly obd2 dongle in car and the app with me all the time just in case. I love my 04 FXT and 11 LGT for daily drivers if by myself and the X3 for family and kids...

All German cars have battery coding. My Audi needed coding for the battery because it will change alternator output as a battery ages. You'll do a new battery no favors if you don't code it after installing it. You'll also cause a little extra wear on your alternator.
