Oh, and "Jagwar". You know better than that. Three syllables, Jag You Are.

Sam, I still have an XK8. I was gonna go take a look at your video on how to install the top module this week :)
@sam11743 жыл бұрын
That's not my best video, but it definitely helps to show you what your getting into with the installation. It's not hard to do. And it's cool to be able to click your remote and walk away from the car as the top closes. I always looked back, though. I couldn't help myself. ...or maybe you're talking about the pressure reducing resistor. Now I'm confused. LOL

Hey Sam. Hru? Did you check if their diagnostic was true? Did you try a compression test as well? 2010, that's 11 y, it isn't old for an engine. How could this happen? I'm sorry. it sucks!
@sam11743 жыл бұрын
I didn't do a compression test, but as you can see from the second video the valve seat has definitely popped out. :-(

Don't forget to change the Supercharger oil!
@sam11743 жыл бұрын
Definitely on my list of things to do. I'm also changing the supercharger coupling and installing a smaller diameter pulley for more boost.

I paid a dealer £650 for a diagnostic for electrical faults, quoted £16000 for repairs and parts. A local independent garage replaced a supplementary heater pump for a total cost of £150 including the part. I have a '99 XKR! Dealer? Stealer!!!

Hello Sam. It´s thanks to you that I find the motivation to work on my '99 XKR. I've been watching your great videos for years. I have the exact same Workshop Manual that a Jaguar Dealership should follow when repairing a Jaguar. I say "should" because I unfortunately discovered the Jaguar Dealership in Marbella/Malaga, Spain wasn't doing so when they were working on my car. From that point on, I began working on my car myself using the official Jaguar Workshop Manual. I live in Spain, but order my parts from "The David Manners Jaguar Parts" company in the UK. If my memory serves me, I bought the Workshop Manual on ebay.co.uk. It was sent to me on a memory stick. Whenever I need to work on the car, I simply print the pages I need and make a small booklet composed of only those pages that are relevant to the work I'm going to do. By the way, is there a non-dealer Diagnostic Tool you recommend for my '99 XKR? I know you used to have an XK8 and wondered if you were able to find a Diagnostic Tool (one that isn't an expensive official dealer-level diagnostic tool) that actually works. Many, many thanks for motivating many of us to work on our cars. For me it's a hobby and I actually enjoy doing the work myself thanks to you!

Jon, for years I have been using a cheap ELM-327 Bluetooth dongle and an Android app called "Torque". They don't have an iPhone version for some reason, but it's an awesome app. It gives me tons of info (or "tonnes" for you European folk) about my car. It can't read a lot of Jaguar-specific codes, but it gives you way more info than the $99 code readers you can buy at Carrefour or ASDA. And it's wireless, so that's a plus. The ELM-327 dongle is about $10 on Amazon. It's simply an interface to the car's ECU. The app does all of the work. Having said that, for the car in the video I bought this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071J5LY8F/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's apparently not available anymore. It can do things way beyond what the Torque app can do. I don't know if there's an equivalent version for the X100, but start with the Torque app and an ELM-327. They have been my go-to tool for years.

Thank you, Sam, for the Information on the ELM-327. Right before receiving your message, I purchased an Actron CP9695 Auto Scanner Pro. If a fault appears, I'll see how well this tool is able to identify the problem. I'll get the ELM-327 you had mentioned. On ebay.co.uk they sell, from time to time, the "Ford" official Jaguar Diagnostic Tools (Dealership Spec) for older Jags (those that were manufactured when Ford was the parent company. Hence, the required "Ford" diagnostic software and hardware). The problem is that they sell them with very old laptops, which could simply stop working. I don't think the software can be transferred to a new laptop. But, I think I may suck it up, as it were, and buy one. This is a hobby for me. It keeps me busy. Thank you for motivating me and so many others! I look forward to seeing how you continue working on your newer Jaguar.

It's still taking up space in my garage. I bought a Tesla and lost interest in repairing the Jaguar. I keep thinking "I'm going to work on it this weekend", but weekends come and go with no work on the Jag. Not sure if I should sell it as-is, or leave it there as a barn find for my great grandkids in 30 years. LOL! Or maybe I should get back to work on it.

I had to buy a new gasket set for my S/C on my 04 XKR and was stung with a $600 bill just for the gasket set, anyone would think it was gold bloody plated....total cost to replace a fuel injector was $1600 which was the actual fault. That was a bloody ripoff I believe. I now try to do all of my own work and have since (with help of Sams videos in fact) changed my upper shock mounts - I didn't rebuild them either as Sam mentioned in that video all those years ago, I bought whole replacements. I'm still trying to solve a front vibration issue and have new sway bar bushes to install shortly, something tells me it's more serious than the bushes though. She sounds like a rattly old piece of crap currently and quite embarrassing considering how pretty she is. Trans filter and internal mechatronic sleeves and bridge seal are on my list too as I have some symptoms of those issues like a squawk/bang in gear change at around 4th gear and slamming/banging into 1st from 2nd whilst still moving slowly seem to point to those parts that need replacing. Pretty costly to have parts sent to New Zealand where I live though.
