I got a question with the factory cassette radio you have there I have the same one. The volume control knob does not work properly anymore on the system it does however go up and down from the steering wheel. But with all of that being said I have no sound coming out of the back subwoofer. The speaker vibrates but there's no sound coming out of it. Can this be all a problem that the radio just needs to be replaced? I see them on eBay for an average of $150 I don't want to put no fancy Bluetooth in it or anything upgraded I just want one that'll work just like the one that's in the car now. I'm a stickler for keeping cars original anyway. Any knowledge would help if you believe that the radio just is not working anymore internally. Front speakers have sound by the way. I tried all the fade front back left right and I don't think it's a premium sound. Triangular speakers on the door to say Alpine. That's about it for the knowledge that I have and what it is doing.

If you have vibration from the speaker but no sound, I think you have a bad speaker. The speaker cone is probably damaged. The radio is sending a signal to the speaker, but the speaker just isn't turning it into sound.

I don't think so. This just has to do with a switch on the brake pedal, a fuse, and a solenoid on the shifter.

So I just removed most of the center console so I could get access to the back of that control unit to change the bulbs, and there is no bulbs on the back. I watched your video and then screamed in to the void. Now I have about 25 M20 screws to put back. Urgh....

Works a treat - to improve the glue I had added a plastic wedge (old screw plug) in the gap behind the clip and visor panel.

Worked on me for a few hours but I have to put another pen. Had it checked, all fuse are in good condition also the battery. Now everytime Im driving I always bring 2 to 3 pens with me. What could be the problem?

Try using a nail rather than a pen. The plastic in the pen is probably getting bent. A nail won't bend. You probably have a bad shift solenoid or a bad switch at the brake pedal. Do your brake lights work? Does your cruise control work? If either of those aren't working, the microswitch at the brake pedal is probably bad. If that's not the problem, then the solenoid in the center console that releases the shift lever is probably bad.

@sam1174 Hi, sir. I didn't expect you'd still reply considering the age of the video. I checked the brake lights, and it's working perfectly fine. I have an issue with the transmission delay engagement for at least 3 to 4 seconds for months now. Then this shift knob issue came recently. Also, thanks for this video. This saved me from getting late to my appointments. Really appreciate this quick fix. Thank you!

@@hanaresp617 Ah... it sounds like the solenoid might be sticking. The solenoid is getting the electrical signal, but it's taking a few seconds to start moving. A solenoid is really just an electromagnet with a spring-loaded rod in the middle of it. The rod moves when electricity is applied to the magnet, and when electricity is removed the spring pushes it back to it's normal position. I don't know how to open up the center console and my wife no longer owns her Mazda 3 so I can't go look. But I bet there's a video on KZbin or instructions on the internet that explain how to replace the shift solenoid. Before replacing it, just try spraying it with some WD-40 and see of that loosens it up. I try to respond to all of the comments on my videos. I get a notification whenever someone comments, and I really like the feedback. I'm glad my video helped.

Glad I could help. Check that fuse! If it's popped, replace it, then blow the horn and see if it pops again. In my case, the horn was bad and it would pop the fuse any time the horn blew, even if it was just the chirp from clicking the remote.

I ran across this video many years ago and it helped me, greatly, sorry i did not tell you then. At the time, sometimes when i dropped the drivers window it would also drop the rear quarter windows. No one seemed to know why. Your video showed me how to work around the issue. I have a 2003 xk8 conv. When i bought it 13 years ago, it would intermittently give me a "hood not latched" message, when top was up and latched, so unrelated to trying to operate the top. When i bought the car this was not mentioned. When it happened i was not to concerned since i thought the "hood" covered the engine, doh! The "hood not latched" message (randomly appears well after normal top raising operation) usually clears by the next day. Question: Is there any simple way to reset/force it go way? When the message is displayed on the message center the top can not be lowered with the top up/down switch. However, if you hit the top down button, the rear quarter widows drop. Again this video was also the fix to get the rear widows back up. I am selling the jag but knowing a way to eliminate/reset the " hood not latched" would probably be helpful. I have lived with the problem for 13 years, but it would be really helful for the new owner. Sorry for the bother. Best Regards, bill

@@williamkaswen9922 OMG!!! I found it! You have the Apollo wheels. Those are the best looking wheels ever put on any car. Ever. That's what I had on mine, which was also a 2003. And I think you have what's called the "dove" interior. That's an awesome color combination. Mine had the GPS in the display rather than the gauges. But the GPS did not age well. Jaguar got in a spat with whoever made the GPS unit, so updates were not available after something like 2005 or 2006. If you had that GPS you'd have to use 18 year old maps. The gauge cluster is much better. I'm in NC. If you were somewhere on the east coast I would snatch up your car in an instant.

What you call iron filings is mostly clutch material from the clutch packs in your automatic transmission. Normal wear & tear to have some. If it becomes excessive you'll get slipping issues. On the stuck fasteners, next time you take the pan down run an appropriate sized tap to re-establish the correct thread for those two bolts.

Great video! The issue is with my Mazda3 2016. The problem is that sometimes it is stuck and other times it isn't, so I believe it cant be the fuse because if it was it would never work. As a side note, I got a check engine code that states that the switch in the brake pedal for the brake lights is not working, Nevertheless, the brake lights do work. Do you thing this swatch might also "operate" the shifter "release" to start the shifter?

Yes, I think you have a problem with your brake light switch. That's the first thing I would check. And it's probably actually two switches side-by-side. One of them might be going bad.

Hey do you know where the fuel sender unit is placed on this? I've seen other people have a straightforward design where the sender unit is right there on the front of the tank where you can easily access it but on mind it's just a blank hole like yours

It's inside the tank. It's integrated with the fuel pump, You have to remove the tank to get to it.

Mine is that same yellow tube. But when I went to pull it out, it was stuck. My mother had it serviced some months ago and I was never informed or given instructions on how to pull it out when it's locked in place and last night I broke it trying to figure out how to get the stick out. Now it needs a new replacement from the new replacement. 🙁

I am guessing you can use this procedure to do conversion from Halogens to LEDs?

It's a little more complicated than that. It's been a while since I converted halogens to LEDs, but the LEDs had an extra piece that had to be wired in (a ballast or something). I had to find room to fit it somewhere near the headlight, and also mount it securely. So yeah, this is the basic procedure to access the bulb, but you'll probably have to make some modifications. Although, maybe new LED conversion kits have integrated everything onto the bulb. That would definitely make it easier.

I think this only applies to the 2003 and newer XK's, so if yours is a 97-2002, it won't look the same under the hood.
