Yeah, that appears to be where we are headed. Once the streaming services control a majority of the major sports programming, all bets are off as to cost. I also can't wait to see what the local channels do once they have full control of ATSC 3.0 and DRM encryption.

Absolutely not going to be more streaming services. That is because the owners of content are standing up their own services. It seems things like Max (WB, Discovery, HBO) consolidated.. Disney (Paramount, Hulu, Disney,.ABC). It seems Paramount is being sold to Max. If this happens, Paramount Plus will be incorporated into Max.
@Goldstar_8 ай бұрын
@@JohnnyHughes1 Warner Discovery isn't going to buy Paramount. There's a slim chance that the 2 companies could merge, but that's unlikely. I think that David Zaslav just said all that so another company like Comcast or NBC Universal will make their own bid to partner with WB.
@JohnnyHughes18 ай бұрын
@@Goldstar_ It seems Paramount is looking to be bought. Not sure if that includes CBS, but I think it does. So there are live news and sports, as well as a very large legacy catalog and some large IPs, like Star Trek. WB makes since for this.. especially the Live Sports and a major live broadcaster (CBS). Paramount is likely going somewhere.. and Both Disney (ABC) and Comcast (NBC) seem to be out since CBS is one of the major Broadcast Networks. This really only leaves mergers with companies outside those 2 if they are going to get regulatory approval.
@Goldstar_8 ай бұрын
@@JohnnyHughes1 The problem with a possible WB/Paramount merger is that a) both companies are deep in debt, and so the 2 studios merging into 1 would put them even deeper into the hole, and b) Both studios already own a lot of IPs, so there would be some anti-trust issues there. The U.S. Congress or the FCC would likely step in. Paramount is looking for a buyer. My guess is that they'll end up getting purchased by some big tech company. Of course, that's just a guess.

After eliminating all the shopping, religious, and Spanish channels, I have 115 channels. Many are duplicate affiliates like NBC, PBS, etc. So that takes care of local news, NFL Sunday and Monday, and anazon prime for Thursday night. Combine that with rotating streaming services I really don't need DirecTV stream when my current deal ends. I do like amc and the first, but there are streams for that when I fully cut over. For years cable and satellite tv providers had virtually no competition. In some markets when a cable start up offered services , competing against the big companies the start ups would be bankrupt within a year or two. The big providers would lower their monthly subscription prices and destroy the small providers. I don’t recall any intervention from the FTC to put a stop to this practice. Cable and satellite providers finally have competition in the marketplace. Good riddance. I cut the cord seven months ago. There is some content that I miss however, none of it was so valuable that I would pay over a hundred dollars a month for it, on top of paying for internet. I’m happy with the steaming services and my cost is a tenth of the cost. Also I never knew when my service would jump in price. So all you cable providers, welcome to karma.

When I cancelled Cable my last bill was $200 a month. Now I pay for my Internet ($35 a month), one streaming service (less than $20 a month) that I rotate from month to month, with some months with no streaming service, and that's it. I doubt my bills will get back to $200 anytime soon. Cable TV became a horrible value proposition with very little content, because most of the hundreds of channels were reality TV show fodder and reruns. High costs, weak content and ads were a combination I'm not nostalgic for. The only reason to keep Cable was if you were addicted to sports, and they were foisting their costs on people who didn't care about sports.

Which my guess is it would be that much better of a service because right now Warner Bros has WB paws and claws and Pluto TV has animal TV. If you think about it you actually would have that much better of a free animal channel. And Pluto TV has a lot of good cartoon / kids channels. And it doesn't exist right now but I'm sure hoping that WBTV would have had a Hanna-Barbera channel because okay people say that Max doesn't have that many kids shows and that's probably true but they do have all of Hanna-Barbera, cartoon Network and Looney tunes if you put it together you got yourself one heck of a good cartoon channel.

@@FM-qq2kk yes but you got to remember that peacock is with universal which is a movie making powerhouse. So if they can't make it with universal how are they going to make it with any other studio. That is why even though right now it seems too late my guess is that.smartest thing peacock could do is merge with Paramount Plus. They are very similar services in the sense that they are services that are sponsored by a TV network and a movie studio. So together I think they might actually have enough to survive and maybe even thrive. However yes I think that it is a very smart move on Paramount Plus' part to merge with Max although I might worry that Max is just going to swallow up Paramount plus. Because if you think about it really Paramount plus has some nice content but really their biggest assets are the fact that they have the Star Trek content and Pluto TV. Warner Bros has been talking about starting a FAST service for a while now but Paramount has Pluto TV a fully formed well known FAST service and so therefore it won't take much for Max to incorporate their plans for WBTV and just add it to Pluto TV. To be honest if that was to happen pluto TV would be unstoppable. Of course there won't be a whole lot of originals but what tubi is to on demand pluto TV definitely would be FAST linear service (pretty much, too much choice). And in fact if Max doesn't do this they're crazy.
