Carolco/Cinergi went bust because they spent far too much on movies. Nothing they made cost less than $50 million. Cutthroat island in 1995, sunk the studios as it cost $100 million. Orion went down around the same time with Cannon. Cannon was too ambitious, yet too tight with budgets as they never had major studio money and should have focused on B-movies under $30 million and straight to video movies.

These aren't just grandfathered-in projects either, they have a lot of movies slated like the Bob Dylan biopic and Super Troopers 3. Theatrically, it's not at the level Hollywood Pictures was at, but Disney is still in the low-mid budget game.

The last film I went to the cinema to see was The Fabelmans (2022) and before that The Last Jedi (2017), after a lifetime of habitual cinema visits. The stories Hollywood films are generally telling today are derivative drivel. Bring back low budget high-concept films I say, then maybe I'll start going to the cinema again. Until then you can consider Hollywood and I officially divorced.
