For a historical drama that prides itself for historical authenticity, this is pretty much a letdown. They teased about it for 2 years only to be shown a very brief and rundown (no pun intended) scene. I mean who cares what the royals think honestly. They said so themselves in this show.

The creepy thing is that history kind of repeated itself for The Crown, according to the official podcast: How did the paparazzi know that the cast and crew were filming in Barcelona? They were all getting hounded by the paparazzi, and the paparazzi snapped some photos of them shooting on the yacht. It was all pretty creepy, because everyone working on that set got a little taste of what Princess Di and Dodi went through during that final vacation.

No wonder one of Diana's sisters was giving a dirty look to a paparazzo taking a photo of her only days after Diana died. That look said: "You've got a bloody nerve after what you did! The music at 2:20... This score didn't merely build in us the dreadful anticipation of tragedy. No, the composer knew that we knew; that most of us lived through this. The score conveys sadness for something that didn't yet transpire in the series. The music is that of mourning; of remembering. And, to such a dignified rendition, the actors themselves shared with us what was coming; and they began holding onto their loved as we would. Every time I watch this scene, the death of Princess Diana surrounds me with so much of the era in which she died. I feel such a sadness, yet also a nostalgia for an era gone.

This reminds me so much of a theatre play. It's exactly like when the protagonist or a narrator announces the death of a character, and a flashback of that character occurs; a flashback of a time when this person was alive. Or when a character suddenly freezes onstage, and the lights dim, and again a main character or narrator talks about how this person died as we still gaze upon the frozen person, under the dim lights, gone forever.

It was this way for me when I learned that Diana had died. It was so, so shocking. She was middle-aged, had become stable since divorcing Charles, was healthy, had no history of drug or alcohol abuse, was living a quiet life raising her two sons and carrying out her humanitarian work. I was in my twenties and had returned from working late and saw it on television. Barbara Walters was reporting and her voice was absolutely shaking. I was so stunned that I sat unmoving for several hours afterwards.

@@kleeamd8274I don't think he crashed just because he was drunk. They were also probably driving in a hurry to get back to Dodi's apartment. Whether paparazzi were chasing them before the crash or not I wouldn't put it above those people. Its obvious enough to me that as they were approaching the tunnel there was a slight bend going in and at the high speed they were going its plausible to see him spinning out and crashing into the wall. I've seen my fair share of conspiracy theories but the assertion that the Royal Family were involved in her death is utterly absurd. She'd done more than enough damage to their reputation before this accident so if they truly wanted to kill her to save their own reputation the damage was already done and there. Even if she married Dodi (which by all accounts it wasn't even certain if she would ever had said yes) I can't see how that does more damage to the royal family than a full on tv interview exposing her experiences while being married.

Henri Paul was only five years older than Diana. As for him being drunk, there is evidence that he was not, such as his being able to tie his shoelace with no issue, and ... read on. What concerns me most, after the level of alcohol they say was in his blood, is the amount of CO2 they also say they found. That amount of carbon minoxide would have given him horrible headaches and nausea. The inquest concluded that it came from the airbags in the crash. This is not possible as he died on impact, he had no time to breathe in any CO2. My other doubt comes from the fact that his parents asked for a sample of his blood but were outright refused. This is all factual.

Nice thought - that everything had been worked out between Dodi and Diana when they died. But I doubt this is the way things went. He had the ring on him and I'm pretty sure he hadn't asked her before they took their last drive. He probably planned on playing it by ear and if the mood was right asking her at a later date or perhaps at his apartment. Their time in Paris was full of tension and a lot of running around, bouncing from one to place to the next. I'm certain Diana was in no mood for a proposal and Dodi would have picked up on that. I also think seeing the video of them leaving the Ritz for that last time, that had Dodi asked and been turned down he would have been miffed/angry. There's no sign of this in the Ritz video

It's not that easy for someone to die just by hitting a concrete pillar in a Mercedes-Benz W140. I know that, because I also have that Mercedes-Benz W140. There is a large stun bomb attached to the bottom of the car and controlled remotely. When the bomb explodes, it will create a shock effect and cause the rear tail of the car to lift forward until it touches the asphalt. The car weighs more than 2 tons, imagine if you were sitting in an iron box that weighed just under 400kg and then it was crushed by an elephant whose net weight was 2 tons.

I don't buy it that she died during her accident in Paris inside the tunnel. She was aware of tunnel within a tunnel. My heart doesn't buy it- her death specially in the car wreck as it was advertised heavily in 1997. Many died in that decade n in those years including very old Mother Teresa. People like Indira Gandhi & her son were shot dead & bombed and people saw it happening. Something fishy about 90 decade & Diana's death particularly.

I was mostly touched by the work she did for AIDs patients. Wasn't that a time (1990s) when this AIDs had become like an epidemic? We were asked not to touch opposite sex for a reason- AIDs. Irony, Diana was the Goddess Artemis back in the day and people made lot of money selling her statues. I think l, and am not sure about this, didn't even get any secret message shared about this - that Lady Di didn't die that day. She escaped via that tunnel.

The way the Mercedes is driven in the film is wildly inaccurate. It is shown as driving away from the hotel at a reasonable pace before picking up speed. Eyewitnesses confirm that Henri Paul launched the car "like a rocket" from a standstill. Even at the end when it enters the tunnel, the car in the film is going far too slowly to accurately represent what happened that night.
