Well that says as much as an hour long essay ever could. Hope the insane success of doom eternal and the boomer shooter indie wave. Will inspire machine games to finish the series with a third. Think wolfenstein 2 combat with the giga macho story and pacing of old blood. With a little reworking of the weapon meta to make weapons a little more specialised their roles. To encourage more weapon swaping and mix and matching. I've just played call of the machine for quake 2 and can confirm they still know how to make a great shooter. Best part of the whole remaster package.

For me it was Gears of War 5, it was fun playing in 3 player co-op the first time but the second time we realized how bad the skiff sections are and how long and slow the game is.

Not sure about the Commander Keen connection, but I recently picked up a cheap Xbox copy of Return to Castle Wolfenstein Tides of War. In The manual it makes no mention that BJ is Jewish, he's just of Polish descent. Seems MachineGames retconned that background in their Wolfenstein games.

@@Gruntvc Oh, that's my favourite game in the whole franchise, wasted months of my life playing multiplayer back in the day. Wolfenstien Enemy Territory is also completely free on PC on Microsoft's Xbox store if you want to try that out too. But yeah, I think MchineGames retconned quite a few things lore wise, His British Agent friend is a complete no show in their games, and Death Head is only a recent addition too, wanting an antagonist in lieu of Hitler, then added him anyway :D (though I think Death Head first appeared in the Xbox 360 Wolfenstien game)

@Larry, Never played Enemy Territory. Might check out, but I prefer single player focused games these days. Actually, in Wolfenstein The Old Blood, a prequel to New Order and a kind of RTCW reimagining, that British Agent is in it. As for Death's Head, I think he was 1st introduced in Return to Castle Wolfenstein as an antagonist. MachineGames made him the main one in New Order. Shame we never got to fight Mecha Hitler. MachineGames BJ kills Hitler off screen between New Colossus and Youngblood lmao. Fail.

I know it's completely unrelated to the bulk of the video, but holy hell that comment at the beginning about prey's reception made me so sad and angry man, I started playing it a while ago and goddamn it's such a good game, can't fathom how it flew THAT over the radar when it comes to the general public. I'm one of the guilty ones regarding Prey - I bought it in a bundle with Dishonoured 2 & completely forgot about it for a couple years, & then felt an idiot when I gave it a try after looking at youtube vids. It started so damn well, granted only timed I've finished it was following December & that's a bigger 'You lost after all' than I realised considering most horror-vibe games where going 'Naah, good luck - I'm outta here' is the logical way out XD

Machine games are capable. I mean they made Dimension of Machines in Quake 1 Remaster and Call of the Machines in Quake 2 Remaster. I would suggest playing an old third-person shooter called Freedom Fighters. I wish I knew more first-person shooters that were about fighting to win back your world like Wolfenstein New Order. (Preferable with an actual conclusion) Well, I can think of one game but I'm not sure if you are into turn-based games and I'm not sure if it's a solid game.

CoD Ghost 2013's campaign was about a weakened US fighting back against a fictional South American Super Power. Unfortunately, it ends on a cliffhanger that never got a sequel. CoD Infinite Warfare's campaign is about Earth being threatened by separatist Mars colonists. And there's Titanfall 2's campaign that's about colonists fighting back against an invading Super Corporation. But yeah, Freedom Fighters was great. Wish it got a remake and sequel instead of 101 constantly milking Hitman. Oh, and there's two Homefront games that are about America fighting back against occupying North Korean forces.

@@Gruntvc I'll check out Homefront and Titanfall 2. Already checked out CoD Infinite Warfare. There is also the game series called Resistance though I don't know much about it other than it was made by Insomniac Games, the same studio that made Ratched and Clank series. There is also X-Com 2. A game where the bad ending of X-Com Enemy Unknown is canon and it's up to you to fight them back and beat the alien overlords before they finish the Project Avatar. If you are familiar with X-Com, you know that it's a turn-based game. Also, I saw some glitches while watching a certain playthrough of X-Com 2.

personally i loved the new colossus, i feel like the new order did most things better but overall i think i enjoyed the gameplay of the new colossus more because it was basically the same but with more everything. the one thing i hate the most? there not really being a true final boss, it was just go here, kill the main bad guy by pressing 1 button, the end. and no the 2 robots you fight before her are NOT final bosses, they're mini bosses even, they have no plot relevancy other than we shoot black holes and we are protecting one thing. the fight was fun dont get me wrong but it just doesn't land as a final boss

There's also one thing the Old Blood had over the other Machine games Wolfensteins, BJ talked IN GAME. In the New Colossus there were many many moments that BJ staying silent during gameplay made it really off, honestly it bothers me the potential that was wasted not having him banter during gameplay and especially during conversations outside of cutscenes.

I think when you play Youngblood with a friend and you two are having fun together, you don't think on how bad it is. This game solo is so boring, I had bought and played this game day one and I didn't finish it until 2023 and that's not because the game is long, it's actually very short minus all the padding.

My guess as to why you have such found memories of this game is because you played it with a friend in co-op. Enemies are probably balanced around having two player characters so when you play alone they feel much spongier also you can make anything fun with a friend.

I personally loved New Colossus, I fell in love with the gameplay and graphics of that game, even playing it with my damaged controller, with drift on the right analog stick. And I'm currently considering getting his platinum and going through Mein Laben (at least if my sanity doesn't run out) but with Youngblood... I literally played it with another friend of mine, 4 hours of game, we thought it was rubbish, we hated every aspect of it game, we just think the weapon upgrade system is beautiful, because each upgrade has a significant change in its appearance (something that New Colossus also did, with more simplicity, and still did it better, I think), the story is rubbish, Would it cost to play another game with BJ? If it were to be co-op, Anya would make a great character to play as well, Fergus or Wyatt would also work. The RPG aspects don't match Wolfenstein at all, I want to kill Nazis and not worry about what weapon I have to shoot to do more damage. Youngblood is a missed opportunity to make a coop Wolfenstein, since they wanted it so much, without these rpg mechanics and weapon skins, why didn't they just use the gameplay from the old games? Instead they destroyed the magnificent gameplay of New Order, which was improved in New Colossus, to end up with what we have in Youngblood, a game with no personality, bad protagonists, boring and repetitive gameplay, and a poor story. Honestly, if this game didn't exist, it wouldn't be missed at all. I still hope that Machine Games brings us the real Wolfenstein 3, because for me Youngblood is just a non-canonical What If in the series.

As much as I enjoyed playing Wolfenstein II, I'm never replaying it. Having a game where you die so quick and you spend HALF of it with 50hp was enough for me to steer clear of a second playthrough. Gunplay and soundtrack kicked ass, tho.

I've been a Wolfenstein fan since Wolf 3d and I hated the continuity that began with the New Order and continued with the Young Blood. It transformed BJ from a glorious fusion of the Morals of Captain America, the Attitude of Vegeta, and the Pragmatism of John Wick into a PTSD-ridden Tin Man who delivers his lines with the conviction of a man fighting off his sleep medication. I'm working on a massive video project in which I rewrite the entire story of the New Order that keeps BJ's attitude. I shared the outline with a fellow FPS enthusiast. He said I made him more hardcore than the Doom Guy.

It confused me so much the design decisions of this game. Not only the enemy designs with adding a level system,but also things like 'You cannot pause when you are alone, have fun goof ball' Then,the characters. Was the entire writing team just fans of Marvel movies?. Even FF XV protagonist were more human than them, a bunch of young adults with magic, technology and stray up SUPER POWERS, are better written than BJ's daughters.

The new Wolfenstein games are an incredbily frustrating trilogy to me. Gameplay wise they are much closer to the classic boomer shooter formula than the new DOOM games so, at least in theory they should scratch that specific itch of mine. But unfortunately Machine Games just couldn't resist infusing those games with "modern gaming trends" to muddle the great foundation they had. Why does the game need ADS when hipfire works perfectly well? Why does the game need half baked stealth mechanics when combat is easily the most fun part of the game? Why does the game need to stop you ever 10 minutes to show you a scripted cutscene you don't care about? Where are the more imaginative, destrictive and exotic weapons to destroy nazis with? Why are those levels so insanely linear? Despite all of those issues I enjoyed Wolf 1 and 2 a lot. I didn't come back to those game because of thosee frustrations but I can't deny they were very competently made shooters. And there is Youngblood. What a baffling waste of potential.

I don’t get the hate against IGN’s review scores. Reviews are subjective and done by many different people. I’d be tempted to get on that train though if not for the Starfield debacle last year, people lost their minds at the average score ign gave it… only to realize 2 months after release that starfield was super average.

(Sorry for rambling) I was already doubtful of the game, even before I watched this, because Im going to be quite frank, when games rewrite the franchise with a new character, that is female for example, which is the most common example, the game usually turns out mid at best, and I swear, I have NEVER, *EVER* seen a company butcher a game so hard, the ONLY WAY they are apologizing for this is adding a permanent chaingun (Like a carriable version that stays with you, doesnt slow you down, like the original.)

The vr is okay but way too safe. Youngblood is just terrible across the board with a friend. Some of the bad stuff is kind of alleviated by your friend since it was a co op game. But the design and levels are just kinda meh. Not to mention the pointless lite rpg system. It felt so tacked on with it. It was a terrible game that had an online only that had to be patched so some people could play offline. It had also micro transactions in a single player game. It basically was all the wrong choices to make wolfenstein game.

WEAK there was almost no holding story, no "wow" moments like the train scene or destroying "friendly-working" camp from within with a mech It felt like The New Colossus was just trying to be "too safe", checking all political correct marks instead of making the game pure fun and enjoyment - like the first one in the reboot series did

I kinda liked the gunplay in this game, and it was way more fun to play than the new colossus. I dont know, it just dont have a lot of cutscenes and the level design is great. But thats all, even the story in this game is so lame that its just throws a bunch of concepts about time travel in the end, just so that they can reboot without a remorse of the old games lmao

@@Proxidist GOW(2018) most issues you had sounded like skill issue, I never had problems with the camera nor the Combat. And speaking of combat, why is it bad? It’s not necessarily better than the OG games Combat system and I prefer those over 2018 and Ragnarok, combat in these games is Different not bad and if you don’t like it thats fine but calling it bad cause you can’t play it is simply wrong.

If you've played the older GOW games, hell literally any other better action game then you know that the combat always benefits from being zoomed out. The game isn't hard, it's just boring and the camera ultimately restricts its combat. But nah cmon man, why didn't you like Prey? That's what I wanna know.

it's becoming bad from WF2, i especially hate this black woman 0:44 who the F is she anyway?? i've rescued her and then voilla, she's somehow becomes the captain ship? the F?? not to mention her ass attitude. what is this? the beginning of woke era?? only she and her crew is bad, gameplay and story is still good imho, just not her. remove it and the rating would go up, i guarantee it and then youngdouche, i dont really had any problem with level scaling, it's just BORING AF!! they should remake the first "remake" of wolfenstein 2009. this game rocks, i keep playing it. there's supranatural, mystery, gunplay, semi open world. what else do you need?? but somehow it's just gone now, wtf???
