I agree with you whole heartedly. The acting by the actor playing Bobby, I felt was very good. But the storyline, wigs and wardrobe, wasn't up to par. This family had a lot of demons, but they have a huge impact black music. They have a fascinating story to tell. I don't know why no major black director has showed interest in making their story. Bobby and the entire family deserve to be on the big screen. I feel personally that they should go old school and do a tv miniseries, like the Tempatations.

@@Rewindwithrekenya - I'm a little confused. What, exactly, was the problem with the music? Was it not DeBarge music? As far as wigs and wardrobe are concerned, the story was told which is what an intelligent viewer would appreciate. What was wrong with what these people wore? They got Etterlene's dusty blonde wig right. I am not certain what you were looking for in this movie. There are scenes in this movie that can move one to tears due to the authenticity of the emotion...the scene with Etterlene and Bobby discussing Daddy DeBarge's evil nature was top-shelf. This movie is going to become a cult classic. Just watch. By the way, I' 'm 71 and I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. These folk acted their butt off.

I agree they did an injustice to Bobby DeBarge the movie was just thrown together. I don't know which one is worse this one or the Bobbi Kristina story. Like Miki Howard story is probably the best one for me because they went into detail from beginning to end. But for me this is such a delicate situation with the debarges and how they grew up and how they came to be that I think bet should have picked it up and did a miniseries on them because it's well needed. They never even talked about Bobby DeBarge being bisexual how that came to be. And for Christ's sake, they didn't even talk about how their parents met up and how they got married and had all those kids. This movie skipped over a lot of important key points hopefully bet will have the mindset and the opportunity to talk to the debarges and get a movie and do it right

I hated the movie. It just wasn't Bobby. I never knew him personally, but the feeling I got and by being a fan since I was 12, now 51. It just wasn't him. They showed him in an asshole light. His mother, bunny, his sibling should have told the real story. I would have preferred a documentary. I need a redo. Bobby was very talented and his story needed to be told respectfully. Watch the Unsung on Switch and the Unsung on Debarge. The siblings may have had their differences, but they Loved each other. I love the Debarge family. Bobby was the most talented of them all and his siblings will tell you that. They all have pushed through and have there on stories to tell as they should, but the story of Bobby was disappointing and needs to be done again and may be they should cast their own family members because they all have children that are talented too.

This is not one of the best music bios nor one of the worst music bios. I put it right above Man In The Mirror & The Aaliyah Story. Russ Parr directed this. He said it was originally about the Debarge family. He changed it to the Bobby Debarge story because people didn’t know Bobby was the one who put the family on. The story was produced by Bobby’s widow & son. The Debarge family had no input. The story focused more on his struggles than his talent & made him out to be another Eddie Kane & David Ruffin.

I agree that the show should have not opened up with a flash back. Mama D did verify that Bobby did not pass away until he spoke with his father. But this show could have done a much better job. It did not say, "Dad was a pedophile, abusers, and cheater." The writer of this story did not make the connections. For example, I heard from the Switch memeber, Ingram, who is the brother of James Ingram say, "Without Bobby, Switch would not have gotten the deal with Motown. In addition, Mr. Ingram knew Bobby got high, but they believed he could stop." A lot of people don't understand the physical addiction of herion, or in the 70s heroin was a cheap high. The problem with all of these shorts is that the budgets are low, and they don't put the viewers in the context of the times when the event(s) occurred. This show is no better. I agree putting actors in bad wigs and having actors to play these roles that lack depth to play the roles, exude the emotions, and emote feelings to carry the story to a level that make the viewer look past the bad costumes is what made this short Debarge story never take off. It should have never begun with Bobby dying in the beginning without explanation.

The movie seemed rushed and unfinished. Its like a collection of random scenes directed by someone who swore they knew Bobby, but had no connection whatsoever. The biggest problem with this movie by far is the main actor’s voice. They are complete opposites, when Bobby spoke it was soft and sounded like falsetto. The actor speaks raspy, unclear at times, and doesnt even try to raise his pitch. 3.5/10.

It's common knowledge in the industry that you don't have to put much production value into black TV projects as we'll watch them regardless--even if it's to say how bad it was. The producer doesn't care why you watch, as long as you do, as they get paid from advertisers trying to reach YOU!! It's all about $$$. If a project like this typically required 12 million to make and they can make it for 6 million and advertisers will pay 17 million--you do the math. However, we're so stupid, we keep watching so we can get on social media to be the first to clown how bad it was. STOP DOING THIS!!!!

Compared to some not even films but TV movies shown, I would group it in the same category of the Aaliyah lifetime movie or the Wendy Williams lifetime movie which by the way was both produced by Wendy Williams. The only good that came out of this movie was the song he sang at the end in which I thought was good and I believe Bobby really did write that song. It was a tear jerker, other than that, yes the movie was poorly done.

When I started watching the movie, right off I could tell it was low budget. Once i got over that fact, it wasn't too bad considering what they had to work with. I actually saw some good acting from the Bobby character, especially the dramatic scene between him & his mother. Other than that, there were little mistakes such as the terrible wigs that the DeBarge boys wore. Also they didn't work enough to make the scenery & clothing look like the late 70s/early 80s.

The Bobby Debarge story would have been a good movie had it not been about a real person. The fact that it was a real person seems like they only portrayed his bad characteristics and not his true self. We all would be the villain if you only pick out our bad traits to display. You have to watch Ashley Says So 2-part Debarge series to learn about the entire family and why they did the things they did. You'll see Bobby was hurting and his only outlet was his music as well as the rest of the family. He was a musical genius and he was and I feel still is the G.O.A.T. in the falsetto game with El being a close second. Other members of Switch have said he was funny and liked to joke. I wish someone would do a Debarge family story like the Jacksons American Dream. And someone please redo the Bobby Debarge story. Rest in peace Bobby and Tommy ❤🙏🏽🕊
