He definitely needs to change his circle. I believe that he does have access to some very good people like PJ Morton and Robert Glasper, but this rap/hip hop crew he’s been around for producers and songwriters (collaborators) is not a good fit for El. Besides, HE’S NOT A RAP/HIP HOP ARTISTS. He is FAR MORE SOPHISTICATED THAN THAT. Further, he needs to focus on being independent of the labels because they are ALWAYS putting demands on artists that don’t necessarily align with who the artist is. I think that is the real creative battle and conflict that he is having. And then, the labels and artists are so busy trying to hog the songwriting, publishing, and production credits (money) that they don’t accept music from outside writers…especially if they think they can’t snake them out of their writing/publisher share. Thus, these artists would rather see their entire project FAIL than to allow a new writer a chance to get in the door by recording them and giving them their fair share because they are trying to HOG the opportunities for their little circle. AND IT AIN’T WORKING. The biggest loser in these situations is the loser - in this case, El. He would be better off to go independent, stop wearing those hideous designer thug clothes and record the music that he has written and put his suits back on and be the class act that he is. He then could record and sing WHAT SPEAKS TO HIM INCLUDING GOSPEL. That I believe is what God wants El to do anyway. He could also start doing different venues - forget the large arenas and stadiums that keeps putting him in the wrong element. Long story short, El is facing a CRISIS IN FAITH. God is calling him out of that hard core secular record industry to sing and praise him with his gift and it’s hard for him to let go of the things that he remembers from the past. I believe that El would be even a bigger star than he was before if he did what God was calling him to do. He just could not go about it being a ‘star’ as he would have to walk in humility more. Bless his hear, it’s a struggle-a real battle. I am praying that E will get it right and change his social, creative and business (labels and handlers) circle as needed. GOD KNOWS EL’S HEART. AND I DON’T THING GOD IS GOING TO LET EL DO IT ANY OTHER WAY. That is the CRISIS IN FAITH. Will El trust God and walk away from the industry as he knows it, or will he let the industry and the past to pull him down. Just pray for him. that is all anyone can do. But know that God has given him too much talent to waste on the world. the other real prayer is that El does not sell his soul out to the Illuminati because that is the ONLY WAY he is going to make $$$ in the industry is if he signs on to the dark side. And El knows it…and I can see the conflict that it is causing in his spirit. He really does not want to go there. The Illuminati is the industry gate keepers today to the big deals, tours, contracts…to the big $$$$. THAT IS THE REAL PRAYER - the El does not get in bed with that crew. In the name of Jesus, Father protect Bother El. let him hear your voice one more time and let him trust the plans you have for him enough to walk away and do what you are telling him to do. God, let El know that you will provide and take care of him. Clear his mind. Help him to see himself as you see him. Whole and healthy. Let him leave a legacy to and for all of his children and mothers that are now a part of his life. Jesus, take the wheel in El’s life. Heal him from the drugs, the demons of past memories. This will be his testimony. If it is Your Will, Father free El and his siblings from their demons. I know this family (EL) loves you, Lord. THE DEVIL NEVER ATTACKS NON BELIEVERS. EL AND HIS FAMILY IS A THREAT TO THE DEVIL. THAT IS WHY SATAN TRIES SO HARD TO KEEP HIM/THEM IN HIS GRIP WITH THE DRUGS AND CHAOS…ALL OF THE TRAPPINGS OF THE WORLD. But, I know that You defeated the devil. And if El seeks You again, El and his family will find you. You never fail. Amen.

Trauma is passed down. Was El any different to his own children? He doesn't know some of them. Kids internalise negative harmful beliefs about themselves due to these traumas that lead to addiction and mental health problems. El's father might have improved on his own upbringing. We don't know. It's the trauma and the culture that needs to be addressed, blaming one person is too simple and not very helpful.

All the DeBarge kids went through a hell no child should ever have to go through. El says he has different personalities and that's a reflection of the trauma he suffered. Trauma restructures the brain and it is even worse for a child. Addiction is a confirmed mental disorder and without the willingness of the person, it is destructive and cruel. El has to choose a better path for himself but he is a grown man we can only hope

without the drugs, that boy was on his way to being a HUGE Superstar on Prince level. El's Musical genius is equal to Prince, and Stevie Wonder...EL said in a recent interview, by the mid 80's. the executives at Motown STOPPED him from writing and producing his own music. he said, they told him his music was to BLACK/R&B. this is after he composed and produced several BIG classics for them. and stooped him from writing and producing Music for other artists inside, and outside of Motown. which caused EL to get depressed and question his own musical greatness. which later led to the drug use. Motown had a modern-day Beethoven on their hands and fucked it up...somebody at that company feared that boy's genius. and Movie Star good looks.

Exactly Darrell you hit right on the nail. You remember back in '89 the Gemini album was his last album with motown. He left after that album due to poor sales and promotion on motown 's part. It's been said the single Turn the page is about his departure leaving motown in '89. That song gives me chills Darrell also l believe motown sued El around that time leaving for breach of contract. Motown was given El the blues man. Smh

@@crystalcormier9376 TURN THE PAGE is my cut/jam, off that album/Gemini. back in LATE 1989, my uncle heard turn the page on black radio here in Chicago a few times, he told me. it didn't get any push/promotion, so it died on the radio. that's EL on those Keys and playing the hell out those drums on that song... another cut off that album was, REAL LOVE. it got up to #8 on the R&B charts and died to, lack of promotion by Motown. #8 is still impressive when you're not getting help from your label. that record should have been much BIGGER. #1
