from my experience, many customers that show up late will still queue despite being told that you're closed in the hopes that you'll just give in and serve them anyway because they waited. i imagine that's what happened here. people feel entitled to service because they waited even after being told not to.
@fantellerhur2 жыл бұрын
yea this is 100% on the customer. if they say they're closed, just say 'sorry, my bad' and leave damn????
@kevindube70962 жыл бұрын
@@fantellerhur I think the unspoken necessary courtesy is to ask “yall still serving?” if it’s anywhere close to them closing shop... at least give the worker the option to say yes/no where they have the power and the customer is going to accept it. It’s been a couple times where we actually got served (not like the dance battle movie) at a time that seemed like it was no chance, all signs pointed to staff shutting down but either they were in a good mood with or without kitchen drugs, or it was from the way we asked permission
@single_use_planet_2 жыл бұрын
Yup, from my experience in retail you clean up before closing and serve whoever comes in that timeframe during cleanup and after, since I think it's safe to say that there was in fact a line and this guy came in to the back of the line max 1 min before closing time, at which point he was nowhere near being served, this isn't a train where you just gotta get in and done, the employees likely told him they were closed and he ignored them and then got angry. I work in retail and I will always tell people I know that being polite and respectful to the employees is more likely to work in your favour than causing a fuss and threatening them. If he’d asked politely and explained his situation they may have bent the rules and gone out their way to quickly make him an ice cream, but the minute he raised his voice they were never going to do that. At the end of the day they’re earning minimum wage and could quite possibly not be getting paid from 3:30pm, he should respect their time and accept that they’re not the people to be getting angry at.

My interpretation of the cold stone story is that there was a line of people who the employees were attending, then once it hit 8:30 PM these people walk in and join the line, and the workers tell them that they came in after closing they can’t help them. And the people are pissed because they’re inside the store, but the worker was telling them they didn’t have the ability to go lock the door and lock people inside, as they were attending the last couple pleople, but regardless they stop serving at 8:30pm and the couple walked in after that point.

I feel like in the cold stone situation, with the line being there it took them that extra 12 minutes to get through the line after closing, I’ve had situations working in food service where I help customers close to closing and individuals keep walking in after them when we’re technically closed. Being a student you simply don’t want to be at work all night and some managers are very strict on hours and going over what you’re scheduled. The whole „if a customer walks in they have to be served“ seems like such an American thing, I’m completely used to most kitchens not taking orders 30 minutes or more before closing time, and if you walk into the grocery store some will not let you in if there’s less than 5 minutes until closing. The problem at fast food places, is that they WANT you to serve everyone left in line, but they DON'T want to pay overtime. And they will literally only schedule and pay you an extra 15-30 mins after closing time, even if you were there an extra hour serving their customers. There's sort of an implied threat.. finish the job, without extra pay, or risk being seen as a trouble-maker or insubordinate. The company literally will not approve any overtime, and leave it to managers to still make things run without it. It's ruthless. So I never fault a minimum wage worker who says "fuck this shit" and throws down over it. Fight the power.

The reason Ethan's arms look so weird when he extends them is he has an increased carrying angle, its called cubitus valgus! It's not necessarily because of hyperextending his arms!

I'm so grateful for this podcast. I've been watching some since the beginning, it wasn't until frenemies that I actually became a regular watcher, it's only gotten better with time. The fact that we get four videos a week each 2-3 hours long alone is fantastic. The chat is always entertaining and it just feels like we're all hanging out, and if y'all ever do a live show I would be willing to drop lots of money on a ticket, plane ride, and hotel just to meet the family.

i use to work at a very specific grocery store that's whole motto is the customer comes first. no matter what. we had this one customer (mind you, this was pre-covid) that would come in 5 minutes before we closed and shopped for 45 minutes once a week. they would purposely do it. she told us she didn't like to shop with other customers around. we would tell her all the time to stop because we unloaded the trucks at night and it was SUPER dangerous to have her in the store. there were 6 feet tall pallets and pallete jacks come in from every part of the store. she never listened. we had to just let her do it. i think it's one of those things were people don't realize retail employee's arent kicking you out to be assholes. like AB said, once the store closes our job is to clean up or stock the store etc. it's no longer about what the customer wants. and it's super disrespectful and, especially in my case, dangerous to have you locked inside the store. the employees maybe should have just served him to save themselves the headache. but theres a HUGE problem with customers in america disrespecting retail employee's that needs to be discussed first and foremost.

Customers were definitely in the wrong. I worked at a tea store and the clean up takes a very long time. If someone came in the door one minute to closing, we were already dumping some of the premade tea so we could clean it (especially because it was 8:30, who wants it at 8:30?) We definitely had to bring out cleaned tools sometimes to make last minute tea to avoid a situation like this (and then we stayed past closing time). It's not just that you're there one minute to closing, it takes 5-20 minutes (depending on what store it is) to get you what you want. I'm very mindful of not going right at closing time to places because I know what that's like - everyone just wants to go home.

I think I solved it. There was a line and so the employees finished up everyone’s orders who were in the original line. However, these people got in line late (probably around 8:29 which explains why they didn’t start arguing until later - after the entire line had their orders made and the random guy was walking around in there). In the video, when the employee says they couldn’t lock customers in, I think the guy was saying if they didn’t want the line to keep growing past 8:30, the employees should have locked the doors so no one else could come in while they made the line’s orders, thus he wouldn’t have been able to join in right before closing and had to wait and watch everyone else be served. In my opinion, if the employees told him when he entered the line they were closing soon and wouldn’t be able to help him because they still had to get through the line’s orders than the customer is 100% in the wrong.

Look at what’s happening around the world, droughts, empty reservoirs, armed guards giving people a water allowance, the poor rationing water to wash and cook food while the rich have water trucked in to fill their pools, we will start to see mass depletion as the arctic treaty ends, the arctic being the biggest source of fresh water and minerals, we will likely see a war over arctic territory and fresh water, we need to fight to put people in power that will prioritise life, the right to water and not going to war before the treaty ends. I’ve got one kid and I’m not planning more because we’re not going to have water or the resources that use water because we’re using drinkable water at a faster rate than it can be restored, look how much water it takes to make one burger, a T-shirt, parts for infrastructure, water will cause the fastest depopulation we’ve seen, people will use unclean water from desperation to cut their formula and cook and people will die of diarrhoea etc, etc, there’s a few documentaries that cover it well but it will send your spiralling.

It’s ridiculous to side with the customers there. Maybe it’s because I’m a restaurant worker, but Ethan is purposefully making mental leaps to try and side with the guests to make it more interesting. Making some assumptions on behalf of the guest. Aggression or not, why, if his daughter’s bday was so important, why did he show up one minute before closing??????? It’s a lose Lose situation. Yes the customers are screwed but our hands are tied. Period. The allowance of push back is based on ur boss.
