What do you mean "so what," it means that our political debates have deteriorated into more than political differences, they have become personal attacks that should be banned from future presidential debates, just stick to the opponents political record and the differences between the political philosophy of the two candidates and leave out the personal attacks!

I was too young in 1960 to appreciate the quality of our presidential candidates. How they discussed issues, were respectful to each other. We were better than what we see today. We wouldn't have even put a microphone in front of such people as a Donald Trump, spitting out lies, spreading misinformation, attacking anyone who dares to oppose him. Spreading hate, dividing our country for his own benefit. It's such a shame, that in just 64 years from this debate, we are we are in danger of losing our Democracy. God help us!

I think people have become quite desensitized these days in certain regards. Priorities have changed and perhaps there is lesser emphasis on actually doing research about policies and more so on mindlessly believeing things seen on social media. Also, sadly, entertainment sells.. It can be nice to revisit the past sometimes and perhaps reflect a little.

"We discuss tonight domestic issues"-JFK. They did, focusing on that, not he said, she said, personal attacks & other verbal diarrhea. I sure miss that style of two people discussing & stating what they thought about specific points of interest. I still remember watching this debate with my dad & a few uncles. One said "You're watching history & listen very closely". And young folks wonder why I miss the old days.

I was six years old in 1960 and this is about the third time I watched this Debate. At the 6;48 mark, JKF says he "wants the people in South America and Africa to look at the United States and what the United States is doing and not look at Khruschev and China". Recently, the Chinese President offered about 50 African Nations loans and grants of $50 Billion over three years, to finance things like Railways. In the USA, some people think that Foreign Aid comprises 30% or 50% of our Budget, which is untrue. We spend about $50 billion on ALL Foreign Aid and it's less than 1% of our over $7,000 Billion Budget.

@rdelrosso1973 Our national defense is nearing a trillion dollars a year. By the end of the decade, it'll be two trillion a year. I'd like to know why the military needs two trillion when nasa gets next to nothing. We can't provide food and housing. Yet the defense contractors and military workers get all of our money. This isn't a Democrat or republican issue it's a national issue.

This was NOT the first televised American Presidential debate. The first one was in 1956, between two candidates for the Democratic Presidential nomination, Adlai Stevenson and Estes Kefauver. Stevenson won the Democratic nomination, and later lost the election to Republican Dwight Eisenhower. The Kennedy-Nixon debates were the first televised debates between the Presidential nominees of the two major parties. kzbin.info/www/bejne/npfSomatm5plj6M

This represents the quality of leadership and candidates in 1960. How in the hell could an intellectually and psYcologically unfit individual like Trump advance so far in US politics today, not to mention Greene, Gaetz, Broebert and other inept MAGA radicals. Clearly, today's politic is dangerously dysfunctional by propelling rather than eliminating unfit candidates.
@johnlacambra6004
@johnlacambra6004 3 ай бұрын
You talk about Trump in a way that he is unfit when Joe Biden left billions of dollars of military weapons and equipment to al queda in afghanistan and Kamala being the one in charge of the boarder had the highest record of illegal crossing in American history. Not to mention three days after Kamala sits down with Putin, Ukraine gets invaded 3 days later. Under Joe Bidens watch, he could not do anything to deescalate the situation in the middle east and have gotten the entire world currently in the brink of starting ww3. In Trumps presidency there was not a war. He never started any wars at all and no war happened during his 4 years. It is also very ironic that you would consider someone like me a "MAGA radical"... as in Make America Great Again Radical. Of course ill be a radical about making my country greater than ever before. So you think that wanting to make america great again is a radical Idea? How Ironic... also to mention that Robert Kennedy Jr., nephew of the late great JFK(the person in this video) actually endorsed Trump for President tbis upcoming election 2024... I wonder why is that? Maybe because the Kennedy's are also about MAGA. There are intellectuals who think for themselves then there are others who take opinions of others such as opinion news as fact and easily manipulated onto hating others.

He saw kids bringing their school lunches home to feed their families. 65 years later some kids today go hungry because they can't get a school lunch, and politicians try to enact laws to make sure that continues. Seems like not much has changed, and most of what has hasn't been positive. At least the Soviet Union is gone...

Interestingly, people who watched this very first televised debate said Kennedy won. They liked the clean-cut look that Kennedy portrayed. They didn't like Nixon's five o'clock shadow look. But people who listened to it on radio said Nixon won. They said Nixon sounded more intelligent. They didn't like Kennedy's New England accent. That was when those in charge of TV realized the power of TV.

Changed America, and not for the better. I have read that people who heard the debate on the radio preferred Nixon, while people who watched on TV favored Kennedy. This was because on the radio all that comes across is substance and knowledge, where a TV debate is more of a contest over who is prettier and more stylish and superficially appealing. This victory of style over substance has only gotten worse and worse over the years, until we have arrived at the present day where elections are won and lost over zingers and one-liners, gotcha moments, who has the nicer suit, who has a fly land on his nose during a debate, who looks ridiculous getting into a tank, and whatnot. To me this is not a positive change.
