Words cannot express how glad I am that you made this video!! The 70s is my favorite decade, and as a Black girl, it's amazing to see how our fashion, music, and overall culture worked back then and influences today's culture. I'd say my current favorite icons from this decade were Donna Summer (loved her in Thank God It's Friday, though I wish she had more screen time😒), Pam Grier, and Aretha Franklin.

Thank you for this video. Disappointed to see some black females making videos about pretty privilege and blaming other races no one finds their beauty attractive. But women back in the day made it work and they are iconic.

This is so true, black women celebrated their beauty and uplifted one another as well and they went through hell but persevered. I think a lot of women now a days have some nar ciss istic tendencies and want acceptance from everyone but you have to go where you're celebrated because you can't change people who are set in their beliefs

This is so true, some of this generation is so disrespectful when it comes to legends and have no regard for the greats and actual REAL music and REAL talent, like you said mediocrity loves mediocrity Loved this video 💖

Whew yes speak about it! jealousy is so strong in some people and they get so angry when they compete but won't ever compare, so they have to attack the smallest things. Legends and their legacy won't fade but the mediocre talent and gimmicks will.

I really love the way you acknowledge Black women of the past. They absolutely did pave the way and deserve to be recognized and respected. It's rare to hear a young person speak about this. I appreciate your channel. The work you're doing here is inspiring. Thank you.

I am 53 years old, was heavy into the rave culture of the early 90's which was a complete spin off of the 70s funk scene. All the girls in the scene imitated these women in style, dance and hair makeup!

All of the black beauties of the 70s is my inspiration. I’m a 90s baby but the 70s hairstyles will NEVER get old to me. I love big hair, voluminous curls and layers and layers of hair. They had 40in bussdowns in the 70s and girls think they doing something new now. Even the styles we repeat. Bell bottom pants, crop tops and halter dresses are a staple in regular clothing pieces. I need to get into watching more Blcksploitation movies 😅

YEEESSSS TAMARA DOBSON AKA CLEOPATRA JONES IS my ultimate style inspiration being that I love vintage clothes particularly of the late 60s, 70s and early 80s and dated / classic clothes along with retro clothes so not only do I collect Blaxploitation movies but these movies have been my inspiration. On a side note, my aunt LOVES Diana Ross because for her, she is the epitome of glamour and femininity.

I used to try to get my hair to look like the women I saw on TV only to realize that a lot of those styles were wigs. I stopped trying after that and wore my hair the way I wanted... slicked back and up!😶‍🌫️

I appreciate your musing about the critique of Black women and mediocrity...so so true (working twice as hard to get half as much and still being amazing). Fun fact: I LOVE 90s fashion however…my version of “90s” fashion is actually 70s aesthetic which kind of makes me sad. Yes I loved their aesthetic as well but as a recent 27y/o black woman, I worry it ages me. I wear my natural hair out in wash-n-gos and blow dried pin curled blow outs and EVERYTIME I get compliments and ppl always tell me I give them 70s vibes so idk lol. Anyone else run into this?
