Funny, Colin Malloy said that was EXACTLY what he was trying to channel, the kind of high emotions of 80s John Hughes movies (on podcast Exploded Songs) as he felt that really had no right to make this a personal statement as he had a great a life. Nice insight. :-) But also awesome synth drop.
@earthpal5 жыл бұрын
FeatherInPhilly Spot on. Very 80’s vibe throughout ... with a definite touch of New Order thrown in.
@CrackaLackaHacka4 жыл бұрын
It's because the first two chords (V Imaj7) and strumming pattern are the same as Please Please Please Let Me by The Smiths, but it's raised half a step to D# major. The song was frequently used in John Hughes' movies, and I would bet money this song was heavily inspired by Please Please Please Let Me.

This track is amazingly great for being so simple. When those first synth notes hit at 1:30, that really hit me in the feels. Something about the warmth and almost euphoric quality of the synth and melody.. they’ve changed completely since Picaresque, and this is a whole different kind of song experience, but a really emotional journey nonetheless, just a new kind for them. I think it’s beautiful, I’m actually psyched for this album!

This is a very simple, yet in some ways so deep and meaningful. The lyrics explain what we all feel from time to time (wishing for better days) and yet, the music and upbeat celebration is almost an underlying joy that you just need to persevere. Things won’t always be so bad.

This should definitely be a single,and owes its heritage to 80's Irish band The Adventures,and their song "The Trip To Bountiful,When The Rains Come Down" off their 1988 album "Sea Of Love".That was one stunner of a song,and so is this by The Decemberists.
